I own the hardware unit. The plugin is one of the better ones on the market that more closely represents the hardware it’s emulating 🖤
The dancing part got me off guard, super funny! :D

Got it and loving it so far
Got it too, it's fantastic on vocals but not in every material. But, first: it's been out for 2 days so I don't have used it enough to be really trustful, and second: I am confident with Wavesfactory to make it better and better because they do great plugins. For the moment, after 2 days of using it, I would say Gullfoss is still the best because it is more versatile especially with the Master module that has no competitor.
Tokyo Dawn has a free VST vari mu compressor in their line up. It might be worth checking it out if you're digging that style.
Kotelnikov is a vari mu?
@@radiofloyd2359I think he's talking about the Molotok.
Faithful emulation is always accurate. Just need to believe in it, and it will sound like the real thing in your ears.
It's "a faithful emulation of a character..."
100%. I have many great compressors and I wanted every one of them when I got them. I stopped feeding my addiction long ago...
Peak Wytse. I love what you do, this is one of the least "blokey" pro audio streams and it inspires me and makes me happy.
The first step is admitting you have a problem 😉
Already bought it, really digging it!
Well, I’m a part of pure mix and so I get it with my subscription. And I tried it out and it has some really nice saturation that I like at least. I haven’t really fiddled with the compressor. I turn off the transistor cause it sounds a little bitey to me. I put it on over sample 2. Anyhow, I like it and if I wasn’t a part of pure mix, I’d buy it. I like it better than a lot of my harmonic distortions. Thanks for dancing. It’s one of the reasons I still watch you :-)
What about "Dan Worrall" review of this compressor?
I don't know what hardware compressors sound like in a studio, but this totally sounds like hardware. :) This sounds great to me. Maybe it's because the song sounds great already though.
I like it. We never got an A/B of the track without the compressor turned on, but the compressor action was nice. There are definitely some compressor plug-in's that much better than compressor plugins were 5 out 10 years ago. Some are pretty impressive.
2:56 Someone with video editing skills, we need a loop of this with Sandstorm lol
This really sounds nice, even though the tubes are code instead of glass and metal.
While I could find room in my compressor stack, not right now. I have the Pulsar Mu, and about 10 other individual plug-ins. Yeah, just a short stack. Now, I would like the Pulsar 1178, waiting for a sale. You just never know, it might be the one that makes it all so much better.
What we really need for a plug-in emulation is the hot tube and transformer smell.
Maybe its because the super smooth music but I like the comp.
I like this guy. Makes me laugh everytime. The dance move was epic. :0)
I am going to make YOU a screwomorphic plugin suite. Literally... it will be a giant screw that you can twist round to add more or less of the effect of that particular plugin. And you will want to review it to make the point to others that.... you only need one screw!
Yep, guilty, I've got 23 compressor plugins, some paid for and some free. I only regularly use 2 or 3... But it's good to have the others there. 😃
Which are the two or three that you use regularly?
@@daveparkin5174all in serial, at once
But how would it stay on the screen without the screws? 🤔
You should definitely review the native capitol mastering compressor by Universal Audio or what they called (the legendary handcrafted tube mastering compressor)
7:41 Facts 😂
Whats the sonic difference between VCA and Vari-Mu compression? Does Vari-Mu have a slower but more sustained release? Maybe you could do a video on the differences between the main compression types?
Sonically, VCA is snappier, faster. Vari-mu is grabbier, can be super transparent in high GR settings
Isnt its just better to use software compressor like Presswerk or Fabfilter comp with more flexibility?
Are you the snake oil guy? Cool to see you in my recommended vids again hahaha
Please keep adding a conclusion chapter to your videos, for those who don't have the time to watch the full video (just like you don't have the time to create it).
what about the girl displayed on the plugin???
"If I want to dance right here..... I CAN!"
This is the kind of shit that keeps me coming back to this channel ahahaha
I bought the Elysia Alpha Compressor in a flash sale after watching your video on it. I will never buy another one ...... yet ;)
I love how he always uses the same song for testing
“It’s a good product that you don’t need” story of my life
I have managed to put a stop to my addiction. I'm barely buying plugins anymore. Making a list of more expensive stuff, that is more important to me and saving up towards it is one of the main things, that helped me to stop buying plugins. It really adds up to a lot of money.
Thank You for this words!
Damn! Sounds like a really good way to quit buying plugins. Thanks for your share on this topic
oh shit dude.. If Mr. and Mrs. Process find out you where dancing shit's gonna ... I mean, they're made up people so it'd be like if Dr. Home Depot found out, not much will happen.... I sorta was a bit over excited in the beginning on this here set of words being typed out... I mean, Mrs. Process is layed back as long as you're not river dancing, and Mr. Process.... I think he's just been checked out ever since the knee replacement...
I remember I saw a video of some big producer and he said that this compressor hardware is a Vari-Mu comp with luxury components in it. It's like the builder used expensive parts and gold wires just for the fuck of it just for some experiment and his own use but turns out it sounded good and a lot of engineer wants it. Based on the design alone with standard components it could cost half the price, but the price tag become like that because of the expensive luxury components inside it. Forgot who it was, maybe Hannes Bieger ? not sure.
I'm an 80th drummer who have been to the studios where every instruments in the end sounded with the same "loudness". I can see that a "gear" can help fixing some dynamic issues, but there must be better ways (not probably easier) to fix these things. The "horns" in the solo was a bit too loud, or the drummer hitting that snare with dynamic "ghostnotes' must sound the same.
I did test Hardware, really nice, clean Open Big sound. Don't like any emulation, don't work for me. It has 2 tubes per ch. Only thing why I didn't buy it are Knobs, Not switches, only pots. Not easy in mastering.
All you taught me today is to open my compressor list and use some vari mu ones for a change 😂
Why there is a naked girl / guy the VUs? does it make the sound more.....
gliding? 😇
Test Nuro Audio Xvox .. I think its best vst for vocal "all in one"
Super plugin 🎉🎉🎉
Ended up buying it. BUT I HELD ON FOR A YEAR!!!
oh, so one anime lady in a distortion plugin is "disturbing" but two regular ladies in a compressor doesn't warrant mentioning? wytse anti-weeb bigot confirmed
I liked your plug-in junky voice 😂
I don't hear software compressor do something special, they do what they are supposed to do, but that's it, it's meh. But I do hear what a hardware compressor adds and do. sooo what's the deal.
Ya we are addicted to this shit. It's funny how we think we need everything we don't have.
No crave dsp transient eq video until now, im shocked. No one, be the first. Thanks
07:25 Can't be over emphasized. Save your money people.
Sandstorm sounds great on this video, does it have another name or artist i could look up?
White Sea Studio - What do you use to screen record with your DAW?? I use can't seem to screen record sound via ASIO with my current screen recorder software! 😢😢😢
I use screenflow, which is very nice to the cpu
I am done with plugins =..they can deposit a license in my account....I have no interest
Hey Wytse could you do a review of excite audio please
That dancing was a crime against humanity.
Also, I realized you stopped hating pretty quickly. I guess that's reserved for acustica 😂
Has kind of a soft/pillowy action to it. I don't totally hate it.
Hi, awesome videos you do, thanks! Can you test the FerricTDS tape sim from variety of sound?? It's a killer oldie winner of a KDR, and it's free. Please take a look on it!
Thanks. Off topic but will u review Slate vsx headphone thing? I'm looking for a review from someone who's opinion I respect!
Oh come on whitsey, in this day and age, nobody can tell any difference between hardware and software since it's all processed in software and streamed. No one can tell the recording origins anymore. The only way to enjoy old recordings is to invest in record players and vinyl and not computers or digital playback. Since your market will be almost exclusively digital listeners, this does not affect vinyl listeners. Please make this distinction when reviewing please !
more real gear, less plugins :) same addiction man :)
Interesting.
So mucchhh. The channel should do a monthly or quarterly best plugins or something. However, really like the sound of this one though
I did what you suggested and I have twelve compressor plugins. That is nowhere near enough.
Hi , I'm Koz and I'm a pluginaholic.
But I can handle it maan ... 🙄
fun madness
Dance @2:58
10 compressor Plugins in my daw.
Leuk man! Ik wandel daar iedere dag voorbij onderweg naar de studio! 😊
I love how you take that bullshit bingo ;)
Haha super relate to all this. Won't buy that thing though.
Nobody needs this….
You are right, nobody needs this.
Faithful scam, please more comparisons of actual analog hardware vs plugins.Grotjes uit Rdam.
It's a hyper addicted world.
It sounds really nice to me
Thanks Mr. white Sea ,
Glad to see you're striving to keep it above board. Keep it up
Oh man I LOVE ❤ you’re commentary. 😂

Dan Worrall. Has done a review
The king of plugin reviews has spoken!
@@Whiteseastudio
Yep. Dan the Wizard
Every company which tries to emulate analog saturation its just BS imho. Also, if you need saturation just buy a waveshaper will do same if not better job at it.
Screwmorphic hehe
Shit I missed the sale? Better have another beer then! Happy Saturday everyone! Cheers! ;D
It is on sale right now, about 45% off.
@@markuskopter Thanks buddy, I'll take a look! ;D
@@nicolasnicolas3889 sale got extended.
This was painful to watch. Nothing has changed at white sea studio.
??????????? Passive aggressive much?
Thanks!
@@Whiteseastudio You're welcome!
@@ramspencer5492 Passive aggressive? No, just honest. But I have to admit it's my own fault. I should have known better.
Hey cool video. I know it is not about the sound, but what stone are you wearing?
Its wood-stone… I can check it for you
Why do you feel the need to mistreat "analog" plugins? You treat analog hardware in reviews with so much care with optimal settings whereas you hit these plugins so hard to make them suffer. Your suscribers are more enclined to by this plugin than a Herchild. Please give us a review with a realistic scenario, not 12 db reduction in mix bus. Thank you sir. We rely on you, we people from third world who have not access to demos for units and plugins. Cheers.
I dont like the Tone of this at all....Im mind boggled at why you would use this instead of the Deadeye Stereo and Mono Comp...they blow this things away...
Tim P Blue Mu, Acustca Audio Magenta 5 Comp
and the Nebula Fucti Mu Comp.....these are way better ideas than this one

Plugins didn’t exit 25 years ago, bro.
That's totally incorrect. DAW's and plugins were introduced in the 90's my friend.
"Plugin business is just too oversaturated"...is probably the best pun ever :D :D :D
Picking which video topic to cover by whats on the GAS list is a genius play bro!
GAS list?

In this video you say you can dance. I know snake oil when I see it ;)
Ive just recently got into some 500 series hardware and have zero interest in plugins.....though I still have to use them
