Great game and lesson. Svetozar Gligoric was one of best players in the West. Kotov was a very strong player, but his true legacy are his books: THINK LIKE A GRANDMASTER, PLAY LIKE A GRANDMASTER, TRAIN LIKE A GRANDMASTER, CHESS TACTICS.

Yugoslavia was a 'Great Power' in chess back in the 1960/1970s, loads of strong players.

I remember learning this game although i am not russian. Watching it again now, it annoys me how passively white played, allowing himself to slowly get squeezed, like a boa constrictor

I think it is quite instructive to notice, that no matter how miserable White’s pieces are, the computer thinks the position is either equal or even better for White. Emphasizing beautiful squares and diagonals is obviously very helpful to win more often in most games, but here White must have done something right, to make sure Black cannot profit from these beauties. It makes me wonder what White did so well to achieve this.

Who told you this? ... Millions of games in the Russian database, & every Russian's going to know this draw?
Your choice of games begins to parrot Magnus' energy.@@epicchess2021

Meanwhile every Soviet schoolgirl was learning 50 ways with turnips and how to assemble a Kalashnikov?

There probably wasn't alot of dedication nor motivation for them to be in them, hence why there weren't any until the Polgar sisters came to be.
