I just realized something...this series is not really about Will losing weight and getting into the best physical shape of his life. I think he can do that easily, he has support and resources. This series is about him ascending into the best "shape" psychologically. It's about doing the internal work that is so damn hard to do. The intrinsic impact the external....this is what its all about.

Will and I have different versions of struggling. Watching him with his nutritionist, personal trainer, friends, free time, trips to Dubai, just dedicated to losing weight and writing a book is a dream in my opinion. Gets in shape, makes money off recording it, makes money off the book. Average person doesn't have any of that. Works their 8-5, raises the family, and struggles to find time to meal prep and workout. Hes choosing to write a book, he doesn't have to write a book. But yeah, I'm super proud of him for getting to where he is and still finding ways to challenge himself.

Very interesting. I notice that Will usually predicts that something is going to be terrible before he tries. I wonder if that is his way of setting low expectations so he won’t be disappointed on failing on the first try. May be his way of coping with failure to then say “I knew it” instead of accepting the fact that he simply did not perform well in that specific moment.

I may be old school here but I’m trying to find understanding…. If you set out and commit to something , especially of this magnitude as far as production, crew, and everyone he’s taking on this journey with him, don’t you think you’re a little indebted to these people to fulfill those commitments? Like none of them would be here if you didn’t start. And once you start you have to finish. I live by Kobe’s words when he said “rest at the end, not in the middle” after 20 weeks, you can take allllllll the time you want to yourself, but you made a COMMITMENT to yourself and more so the people around you and to let allll of those people down is extremely selfish in my opinion. At some point we all must submit to something greater then ourselves I feel. Like I said I’m old school. Just trying to understand it….

Being vulnerable is challenging. Will talks about his childhood as if he was a child soldier, because that is the way his father framed it, but it sounds like he was abused. Sadly, he either doesn’t know it, people have danced around it and avoided directly calling it what it was, or he’s in denial. I can only imagine how any of the above had and continues to have an impact on his personal development, relationships, and overall life (in public and more importantly in private)! I hope he has a safe place to just be and to release his real thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

when you've been abused as a child, by a parent (or at times, both parents) or anybody else for that matter (i.e. being bullied at school as a kid for being different), whether it's mental, physical or a bit of both, that sticks with you. Forever. It's hard to break out of the shell of allowing it to define who you are, even if deep down, you know you don't want to be that person who is defined bc of the abuse - but that awesome person who you really are. You have to be strong (and trust me, it IS hard - for ANYBODY) and push forward every day and show the world who you are, instead of letting the abuse define you. Once you break out of that shell of letting the abuse define who you are, that is when the good days begin IMHO. Sure, you'll have bad days here and there - or need to take a break, but never let the breaks be permanent, or you'll fall back into the rut of being just that person who was abused as a child and let that be the only thing that defines you.

I find myself at a similar point like Will. I was out of shape and depressed due to issues outside of my control in August. I had a thesis to write that I kept putting off. I would sometimes fantasise of what my life would be like to complete these tasks and moths flew by. Similarly in my personal life I would day dream hopping someone I cared about would care for me the same way without me expressing it. At some points reality seemed too harsh to face. I am at a point now where i'm at week 7 of my strength training programme with 5 more weeks to go. My thesis hand up is in January and Ive got 3 more chapter to write with MAJOR edits to complete. I haven't told the person how I really feel yet. I am not there yet but I am on my way. God knows I cant give up now...

I don’t understand why they went by weight instead of inches. I think they decided on 20lbs because it sounds better for the series.
For someone that doesn’t work out and just cuts calories, going by weight works. But Will is doing hard workouts that build lots of muscle. So you can be the same weight as before but be much smaller sized and toned.

Gaining weight sucks. I definitely understand how hard it can be physically especially MENTALLY if you've always been in great shape your whole life. I gained 30lbs of covid weight after the gyms closed down. It was depressing, but so far I've lost 24lbs of the weight I put on and I didn't have the team he did or the money to go to Dubai and get away. Watching this actually makes me really proud of myself. 6 lbs to go.

From 18:18 when he starts explaining how he sees the situation and why he decides to quit, you can really see what a relief it must have been to finally say that. He starts to kind of smile again when explaining. I thought that was really beautiful to see. Like he was finally admitting it to himself and realizing that he was making the right decision. Then at 19:08 he repeats himself with such determination. I absolutely love this series.

This is an incredibly moving piece of work. A humbling perusal into the pressures of a very public and well known entertainer that historically pushed himself to be successful in multiple endeavors of life and art. So many avenues of existential and metamodernistic exploration with an outcome one wouldn't expect to be openly shared by man who because of his status wouldn't have promoted the failure to complete a goal. What a refreshing WILLingness departure from total vanity.

Interesting, he says he quits, but we know he released the book, so he didn't quit on that part. He also allowed this series to go forward, so I am guessing he didn't really quit on the Best Shape of My Life because why would he allow a failed project to broadcast. It does however show that at some point everyone, even a famous movie entertainer with mega support, has the desire to quit. You may quit, but the thing is life never allows you to stop. The only stop is death, so no matter if you quit or not you will be dragged forward. That is what time does, it drags you forward no matter what, the only choice you have is your status when you get there.
