VDJ is the best. Best browsing experience, best stem function, best compatibility with any gear, most modification options, no crashes. Only the time stretching algorhythm sounds better on rekordbox.
I bought a Serato Pioneer DDJ-REV1 and it wouldn't actually connect to Serato DJ Lite 😅. But I tried it on Virtual DJ and it worked great! Big fan of VDJ
Saying that any software is the best is subjective. The reason I wouldn’t say VDJ is the best for me is because it wont work with my IPad Pro, which would mean I have to buy a laptop, which would mean I have to spend more money, which would mean…….. oh im sure you understand me. But I’m pretty sure its the best for you, and once your tied in its very difficult to see otherwise as Phil explains in this video.
I have been using Engine DJ for a year now and I don't understand why people hate on it so much. Most people I see bellyaching about Engine, when diving deeper, is usually user error. It's not perfect, but it works as it should. I have had a great experience with Engine.
I've really liked it too!i think the only thing I have a problem with is how slow the playlist manager can be... But like you said I think that is user error. I think if I would rebuild my library I would have less issues
It's preference. I used Engine OS for two years on hundreds of events. My opinion: it's just easier to DJ with a laptop of you need to be "nimble" with DJ sets. Still a great platform, but not as fast working on the fly with touchscreen vs laptop.
@@djmavewave4794 Interesting. I've hated using a laptop, even with my M1 MacBook. Some controllers aren't as responsive as the Prime 4. I mean it's slight, but noticeable. Also just other performance issues that can occur just from Laptops misbehaving. Now I will say my experience with Engine DJ is utilizing a Solid State Drive and attaching a keyboard as well for searching. I can totally understand how using the virtual keyboard would slow you down.
@@slopiijoe Exactly. One example is a wedding where the couple just told me to read the crowd during open dancing. Well there happened to be a celebrity in the crowd hyping up the dance floor. He was shouting off song names for me to drop. I could not find the songs in time using the touch screen. In those situations, every second counts. That being said, my Prime 4 is now mainly used as a controller for DJay Pro.
Thank you, Phil. I'm team djay pro solely because of the fluid beat grid. I love mixing old, handmade disco tracks with new, modern electronic music. With djay's beat grid, compensating for tempo fluctuations is not a problem at all. For me stems work fine.
I like DJ PRO. I have a $29 yearly subscription. I use it on my Ipad pro. I want to start using a windows laptop instead of the Ipad. I wonder if it would work. Thanks.
I started with VDJ 20 years ago. I’m with Serato since I change my controller in 2020 and Serato Pro comes with. I have also Djay Pro 5 on my Mac and my iPad for the auto mix. It’s the best auto mix for cocktail and dinner playlist. Serato has the worst auto mix. I switch with Serato for the dance night. Great video!
Laidback Luke seems to be a genuinely nice guy but it seems that he always switches to where the money is (which all „big DJs“ do) but he‘s only one telling every time how much better and advanced a platform is. But to be honest: Algoriddim always was stable on Apple devices and their pro offerings in the last few years seem to be very good, too. I stopped using their shit though when they became subscriptions based only. This is why I can‘t understand why Serato is being slapped as one of the fewer and fewer getting companies that still offer one-time-purchases.
Virtual DJ is the best DJ software out there in terms of features and stability. What I like is that it’s ethnical-works with all sorts of abandoned ‘obsolete’ hardware.
I love Virtual DJ it literally allows me to use Deezer, Beatport, and tidal all at once. It’s also really easy of the cpu. I’d switch to algoriddim if I could do the same .
Great Tuesday Phil. Can't wait for your 2nd book to come out soon. I been using Virtual DJ since 2009 - presents with the free version just a key bored and a mouse and few music I rip from CD and more. Since then, it was so much I learn from getting my music order back then and what I pick up after was mind blowing. Buy the full version since then I am very happy with-it big time. Keep up the great work. Stay blessed Phil.
I have been with Traktor for many years. The sound quality is by far better. The effects although not built in are i feel much better and precise. I feel if Traktor can eventually get stems on the fly and better beat grid for those funk tracks it will be back on top.
Great to see you talk positively about Engine Dj and its features...I've been through, Traktor, Serato, Rekordbox and am now on SC6000's and 1850's Engine Dj and loving it... One thing I find interesting is all the issues are always discussed about other software, but things like the effects issues with Rekordbox are never discussed... the pioneer label seems to allow consumers to sweep all its problems under the carpet. I'm not dissing Rekordbox it's great, but it's amazing how it seems to be flawless in all conversations. Great show again Phil. Thanks.
Facts and thanks for saying this @cosmicpuma. I also thought and I could be mistaken but, I thought Rekordbox was subscription base on all their gear unlike Serato DJ Pro, if you buy pro dj gear, it's yours as long as you have that piece of equipment. The SC6000 is a nice piece of equipment. I started with Technics back in the day and got back into it with a pair of Denon 3500s, upgraded to the 3700 and got the 3900s and thought, Denon got it right with the 3900s with the 9 inch moving platter. However, the SC6000Ms look to be the best in class and knowing what I know about Denon, the quality is second to none.
@@mike._.feliciano6782Thanks for the positivity and like you, I started on vinyl but couldn't afford 1200's or 1210's so I bought a set of Gemini PT 2000's and a mixer. Had friends who had Technics so when I did get to use them, was awesome. I really think the Dj consumer and industry needs to stand behind products like the SC6000 for innovation and progression reasons. I have a pair of SC6000's and X1850 mixer, and can say that CDj's don't even come close to the feature rich level of the SC's. Price point should make it a no brainer but people are slaves to labels... its a shame because even something as basic as wifi streaming, isn't present on gear that will only get more expensive and less innovative if Alpha Theta achieve the serato merger and a monopoly....yet we as consumers can't see that... and we will pay the price...literally lol... I hope you have an awesome and musical filled 2024. Viva Denon, Viva Choice, Non- Viva Monopoly...😂
Thank you for the breakdown. I'm still with Traktor, and it's great for what I do. I know that life overall is uncertain, but Traktor has us on uncertainty level 9. Native Instruments overall is great.
Thanks and also I am still with Traktor and love it. And I do a mix of music styles for dj'ing - open format and no issues. But I have been doing Video Dj'ing recently and use primarily Djay Pro but sometimes use Virtual Dj. There are still many features in Traktor I honestly thought many other programs would have but do not which is why if doing audio only I will stick with Traktor. I tired Serato but it was closed to mapping my Native Instruments Maschine Jam as well as Rekordbox. For me one of things which to some may be small is the option in Traktor that no other software has is when recording a set you can set to "auto-split". This is extremely helpful if doing long 6+ hr sets if anything were to happen and at least the drive is saved. If Traktor introduced Video I would be in Heaven heaven heaven. Yes stems are great and love them on Djay Pro but loving my Traktor. These days it is just good to understand each software a bit in case of an emergency. I also really love the browser the best compared to the other softwares.
@@djom-amari Wow you're making it happen! I hope for your, and others like you soon will be able to work inside the Native Instruments system to get your work done. From the outside looking in it seems Native Instruments is leaving money on the table, or they know something we don't and are avoiding direct competition again?
I started djing with Virtual DJ two years ago, and love it. It doesn everything that i want to do, and works with both my intro Hercules controller and my new Roland controller. Have no reason or desire to change to anything else, and won't until there's something that I want to be able to do that VDJ can't. I don't get why VDJ isn't more popular, especially with the crappy pricing model that Serato has gone to.
VDJ had a bad stigma from the early days and that is still lurking around, so only ppl who hv given it a chance in recent years would appreciate it and see the value it has. Best stems on the market, best for video, most features, best library management, best integration for any haardware outside the native software, CDJ prep.... etc. I've tried serato, rekordbox and djay and the cons in them aren't worth it for me. The issues they present i don't get in vdj.
@@kudamahThat really is a shame, as VDJ is so powerful. I originally chose VDJ over Serato because I wanted to do video streams, and I would have had to pay Serato an extra $100 to have that functionality. I really love what VDJ offers, and even more so that I can skin it to look exactly how I want on screen.
@@marklamutt never know what the future holds. With serato being bought over, i strongly suspect that a new version will be released and then it would be a subscription based model... and most of the serato users may not like that. Especially with higher tiers for the added features they would really want outside the regular controllers. Maybe then some would be more open to checking vdj out as it's a lifetime license they offer.
I too have been using virtual dj since 2005. I paid $300 for the full version and it has automatically updated every year since for free. I’m a mobile dj and virtual dj is more user friendly than the others.
Mixxx is ridiculously stable. In the same hardware on Windows 10: Serato, DJuced and Virtual DJ all crashed for one reason or another within one hour, while Mixxx on Linux just ran happily for days, not hours, I had it running continuously for more than a week, without issues. So the user base of Mixxx may be tiny, but we don't want to use something else when stability matters. Many Pro DJs don't like to use laptops because they don't know Mixxx.
that fact that it works with everything is huge. I have 2 rane 12s and a flx6 hooked up as a 4 deck setup and I use deck 3 and 4 as the rane 12s. I also replicate this setup with my rane one and the 12s if I want XLR out. couldnt make that work with any other software. VDJ was plug and play. I also mix mostly with videos(really a game changer for bar and club audiences in my experience) and most software like Serato you would pay $300 for the video upgrade to do that and the VDJ infinity software is $300 which includes video. Anyway, whatever you use, keep rockin and drop the beet! :)
Traktor boy all the way here. I have to agree 100% with his Pros and Cons regarding Traktor. I have not used anything as tight and as intuitive in it's analysis when it comes to 4/4 electonic music, but it does lack as he said in other genres. The sound quality is amazing. For me, I I just love the layout and the features, which all seem to fit perfectly with how I like to DJ these days. I also just acquired an S4 MK3, which is just a wonderful piece of kit.
I started with Traktor in 2009 with s4 mk1. Love Traktor but it just is so far behind other platforms. In 2014 I dipped into djay 2 and day pro with Spotify streaming. A lot of fun but I did miss Traktor. I ended up buying a s4 mk3 when it came out but got fed up of lack of updates and ended up with demon prime 4. Really enjoyed it, great piece of kit but engine prime was clunky and sync wasn’t great. Now I have Reloop mixon 8 with djay pro 5. Awesome combo for me. Loads of fun, easy to map, powerful features inc gridding and stems. Stems are loads better. Algoriddim also are innovators, they dare to be adventurous. Don’t always pull it off but still they go for it. I’ve dipped into serato and hate that you can only have 1 streaming service at a time and have to go into settings to change. VDJ is very good but I just don’t like way it looks. I know there are skins but still it’s not for me.
@@jeffszurgot no flexible grids, no variety of streaming services, old effects, very old code, no hi res. Just outdated. I do really love Traktor but they are behind.
Same here too 2009 Traktor and now its Djay pro with iphone and ipad and macbook. Now let's sort out my old itunes playlist management with Djay pro. We need more tutorials, please Phil 🙏🏻
Just your opening statement ring so true. Got into tracktor years ago, and even though I admit they're not up to date with all the cool features, stems, an AI support, like some of the other platforms, and I've tried them all, I still can't find anything that matches the mapping power and complexities that Traktor can give me. Have two Allen Heath k2's, and an F1 Kontrol fully customized for my needs. So even though I sit with some envy with all the cool things other platforms are doing, not sure how I would transition effectively from what I got now
Which is why it's even more annoying that they haven't got Live stems yet. Or that they haven't fixed various common issues that have been around for years (e.g. deck load freezes and samples locking decks). And no new proper controllers in years!
Stems today is different from Stems version Traktor used. You needed special file types with Traktor's version, which is one of the main reasons it never took off for them. Today Stems work on the music file as imported. No need for special files.
@@TheDJCARNIVALthing is traktor suits me, i’m not into doing live remixes by using stems, i like mixing tracks the way they were made. The problem these days you have to keep releasing new shiny product otherwise you won’t be relevant, which is whats happened with traktor
Traktor is by far the best DJing software. Last Friday I had to play on CDJs and it was a real nightmare to transfer my playlists from Traktor to Rekordbox. I noticed that Traktor is analyzing tracks a lot better and sets the beatgrids more accurately. One thing that is very annoying in rekordbox is that if you place a hotcue, the initial cue point stays on it's place while on traktor it goes to the hotcue which I think is the way to go.
@@digitaldjtips I'm pretty sure there is no such setting because I went through all of them three times. That's why I asked this question on Rekordbox' subreddit. I will report back here once someone replies.
I switched from Serato to MIXXX about 10? years ago, used with DVS Serato vinyl for an FM Radio show. Stable, flexible hardware interface. I also like the Icecast streaming option. My desire is to move to something with mobile support so that i can access my library away from the laptop. If MIXXX did that, I would be happy. I think that library accessibility and management is paramount and I was very inspired by Laidback Luke's use of DJAY - your library and DJ workstation on your phone.
I switched from VDJ to Traktor some 14-15 years ago. It was very confusing to me at first to know what and how to configure things and keep the mixing flowing, but it certainly paid off once you get use to it. Looking at VDJ now in 2024 out of pure curiosity and by God, it still looks like amateur hour crap after all those years of development...
Only with the combination of Engine + SoundSwitch I could bring my whole LED mask project to live. Also, very kind team/staff I‘m constantly exchanging with. Anyway, great video, Phil!
actually virtual dj and serato also work along with soundswitch. i personally use virtual dj and soundswitch simply because i already have a vdj license. hopefully down the line soundswitch creates a mobile app that can be used along side pioneer & denon cdjs / mixers / standalone controllers. would be nice to have access to library of tunes on phone and soundswitch without needing an additional computer running the software
Phil, which of the DJ platforms is the most stable and reliable in terms of glitches / crashes? I’ve been a long time Traktor user and have never had a crash during a live gig - however have been recently dabbling at home with Djay Pro on my iPad and have already experienced several crashes!! So which platform is most stable and reliable in your opinion? Can you rank them in order of most to least stable?
I have been on Serato since the SL1. But I have an issue with glitching when I use my Rane One. Tech support says they’ve never seen my issue so I’m out of luck. Now I’m using Virtual DJ and overall I think it’s got Serato beaten!!
What's the issue with the Rane One? 90% of the time adjusting the buffer size fixes issues. I had some issues with my Rane One and serato and fixed it. Also make sure you have the latest software for the rane one
@@No--0--Spin for me, whenever I engage the paddle fx, it causes the track to skip slightly. Not huge skips but noticeable and makes it impossible to beat match. Only happens on version 3.0 of Serato and above. I don’t have this issue at all with VDJ or DJay Pro. I will try what you said about the buffer tho, thanks 🙏🏾
I have used them all. Most recently, I have been very impressed by Virtual DJ (followed by djay pro AI). I was a Traktor user for many years, but as Phil said, after the whole “future of DJing” (Kontrol S8 and D2), then shakeups at Native Instruments, development of Traktor has slowed to a snails pace. I hope they can make a comeback because the core features of Traktor are so solid (sound, effects, MIDI programmability). I’ve never been a big fan of Rekordbox beyond preparation, it seems “fine”. Serato - it baffles me why they are still so locked down to only work with certain mixers. I have a Xone 96, and can’t use Serato at all. It’s bizarre. My physical setup is two Denon SC6000s, Xone 96, Xone K2s, Technics MK7s. I sometimes just use the Denons and Engine OS standalone, and that’s great… but sometimes I want to play with more stuff: Stems, more effects, DVS for my TTs, etc. Virtual DJ works with everything I have. The HID mode on the SC6000s is INCREDIBLE. The included mapping for the Xone K2s is really well thought out. I used to think Virtual DJ was a toy, but it’s actually quite excellent. I have also been playing around with DJay Pro AI. I really like how modern that SW feels, and it’s obviously native on macOS and iOS/iPad OS - they just need to support more HW.
Djay Pro is becoming very good. More stable than rekordbox or traktor, beatmatching feels amazing. I use it external mode with Traktor S2 MK3 and Zone 23.
On rekordbox. It’s cool. Wished the stems feature would sound better. May consider virtual dj just for the stem quality and hardware compatibility.. I wonder how vdjs works with a cdj set up
The other thing with the Denon Alpha Theta issue, is that if Pioneer/Alpha Theta bought Serato, then they would have access to Denons development programs prior to release... This is obvious as Denon works with Serato and other platforms, when they are in development prior to release of new features....so their competition would not only have a monopoly but have access to their tech in development and it doesn't take a genius to work out what problems that would pose for Denon... never mind the fact that a monopoly would never be in the interest of the consumer from an innovation, competion and price perspective....I would be the first to eat humble pie if I'm wrong. Great show as always Phil. Thanks.
You are 100% accurate and Serato has made their case as AlphaTheta is trying to brand Serato as a beginner software and what's interesting is that Serato's rebuttal is Phil's comments from Digital DJ Tips so hearing what he's saying now about Serato is very interesting...would like to see that polling from DDJT on what software you use...it may be out and I missed it but Serato always seemed to be ahead of Recordbox.
@@digitaldjtipsI know and it's sad, not just for InMusic but as a reflection of how baited the industry is... but what can I do, just hope that this doesn't go the way of all other monopolies. Cynical and negative yes, maybe Alpha Theta will turn out to be the one monopoly that won't benefit at the expense of its consumers... only time will tell. Great show as always Phil. Much appreciated.
@13:13 I just got rekordbox7 and have stems on performance priority, and still it doesn't sound great, im wondering if I upgrade my 2020 MacBook Pro would make a difference...
So with the new Mixtour Pro and my phone, it is the perfect portable pro package! Djaying from my pocket is King 🤴 and for practicing. I'm going Djay Pro AI as the beatgrid is the best in the biz, and neural mix has the most fun swapping vocals and harmonics. Really the possibilites for practicing with this are limitless, and on my iphone out and about, too. I had Prime 4 for years and never used it as my set up was solid with iTunes and Traktor and the old mixtour. Meanwhile with Denon now, I realised that the P4 won't have stems as it hasn't got the CPU power and I'm not getting the P4+. The beatgrids aren't good enough.
I’ve been using rekordbox since dd series, previously with traktor until they removed the jog wheels and lost me for good. I also use denon engine but only to prep files from my prime go. Lastly; I have algoriddim djay app on my iPhone and iPad.
I don't know which is the best but after almost 10 years I'm running away from Rekordbox, less features are free, and more are with monthly payment. Not even one purchase, MONTHLY! (I have a DDJ 800) Now I'm trying Virtual DJ and I will try Serato cause it's seems the best!
I come from a technics SL background so when Denon dropped the SC-5000/6000's I was very interested and I loved the big touch screens, real time track analyzation directly on the player (no laptop/software) and lots more amazing features but the sound quality on the Denon SC's is metallic and harsh sounding
I just got XDJ-RX3; Took DAYS to ANALYZE, IMPORT/EXPORT; and plan to play Digital in POINEER DJ Players; however Cannot Travel with it. I have a DDJ-SB3; it says SERATO on it; CAN IT BE USED FOR RECORDBOX; The software I learned and got comfortable with was 'TRAKTOR SCTRATCH PRO'; Like that I was able to 'Self-Design' what it controls and I assigned amazing CONTROLLER Preferences on the 'ALLEN & HEATH X2 (HEAVY DUTY AUDIO INTERFACE)
Hello Phil, just want to ask if i can use the free rekordbox on the CDJ 3000 and DJM A9? Or i need to purchase the rekordbox plan for me to use on the cdj 3000 and djm a9?Thank you in advance
Great info Phil !, I would like to ask if its possible to analize music and save hotcues on Virtual DJ, that Remains the same when Using Rekordbox, ? or somehow that the tracks analized TAG's KEY Hotcues keeps the same when switching From Virtual DJ to Rekordbox....
I would love to know any controllers that I can use good software with a iPad Pro? I was DJing right before the controllers became a thing time code for traktor had only just came out at the time. So if you can help that would be awesome or am I looking at a new Mac laptop plus a controller to get back into it? Any way back to binging your videos 😂
What about DJ Studio as a music library prep/ analysis tool for beginners? I play a lot of stuff with seriously Different BPM and styles and variety. And this has been able to help me organize my songs and find ones that go together well....
It is not part of a DJ performing ecosystem, it is solely there to help you deliver pre-planned mixes - which is great, but outside of the remit of this video (that said we will have to cover the platform at some point!).
VirtualDJ all day... some ppl hate it as it has a stigma from back in the day, but it isn't what it used to be. Also it has the least issues compared to the others.
Possible monopolisation of the industry which based on history, will only increase prices and reduce competitive, driven innovation. Especially on flagship units. It will never, in my humble opinion, benefit the consumer...I would love to be proven wrong and eat humble pie in future, that would be one pie I'll happily eat. Have an awesome 2024 and if the Alphac Theta news is positive for you, that's great, I can't tell you different, and perhaps I'm being cynical and in time, maybe I'll feel different but for now I only see consumers losing. 🙌
@@cosmicpuma thanks for the response, i’m not too happy about it as of this moment for the same reasons you just described, it’s very common for rebranding of *any* company to mean bigger differences in products other than just the name, only time will tell
@digitaldjtips I think it's important we all, the dj and music communities, realise the possible impact...after all, it will ultimately be us who are affected most. But as always, I would be the first to admit I was wrong and support an industry that has its consumers as a priority.
@Percussionists You are right.. Time will tell, and I'm not anti Rekordbox, Pioneer, etc... I'm concerned about the lack of competition, innovation, and ultimate price control, which is inevitable with a monopoly... but that's only my personal view, and I really hope I'm wrong. I really hope Alpha Theta brings innovation at price points that match the value, and as you rightly say, time will tell.
hmmm Phil - u stated there's no STEMS on Traktor... what? They are actually the ones who came up with them first, it was available with NI way before everyone else. Would you mind correcting that please?
Meanwhile Traktor pro 4 with stems is out so this video is fully outdated and the comments about Traktor is no longer true. Shame the video has no update to correct this…
Great video, I am full pregnant with Pioneer and rekordbox with my CDJ3000 in the studio and an RX 3 for getting out gigging, purely convenience. I did have the Denon Prime Go for holidays and loved it, jsut a little inconvenience with functionality but not the end of the world. I sold the Go and was going to buy the Omnis Duo to keep with the same platform, but I just d not think it is worth the money and I still feel Go is a far better package and jsut the right size for travel, I have a feeling Denon may drop a new version of the Go.
I still use Traktor with the different NI controllers. Will it be possible to use those controllers with let's say Serato? As midi controller or such ? I really like those Native instruments Controllers so like to keep using them . Thanks
@@digitaldjtips Thank you very much . That is too bad. The Seranto controllers all look so childish especially if I like to start using the AlphaTheta EUPHONIA as a mixer. Not sure if using then the AUDIO 10 will have bad effect on the output sound ..
I switched back to traktor from rekordbox because of hearing all the problems that come with the cdj 3000 which is the club standard now. I just wanted something reliable. Is it true that cdj 3000 is not reliable ? Even marshmellos usb got wiped by a cdj 3000 on a mainstage and i keep discovering videos that show bugs with it and even James Hype refuses to use them because they cant keep up with beatjumping while quantizing , also i heard they dont sync right always, and shutdown mid- show. Phil, as a cdj 3000 owner, arent these issues real? I am asking to see if switching back to traktor for my case was a valid choice.
You forgot to mention that Virtual DJ you DON'T have to buy the software. You can just on a month to month option as well. Say $20 a month. Even up to $60 depending the extra features you want to add. You just pay for the months you're going to use it and cancel during the months you will not be using it. This is great for certain DJ's who only work in certain season's of the year and not every month.
What are your thoughts on DJUCED from the Hercules Inpulse series. Is it more capable then Serato Light? I was looking for a small compact controller and considering the inpulse 200 mk2 or 300 because of it's small size.
It should be a condition for AlphaTheta to make Rekordbox USB export open source under MIT license when absorbing Serato. This would level the playing field a little bit, as DJs could prepare USB Sticks using any DJ software out there who decides to implement it.
I've started DJing back in 2003 on a PC tower with dual CD decks installed as well. But ripping music to PC which was prime. I've tried different DJ software (like 5 different ones) over the years but I always come back to Virtual DJ. Virtual DJ is the perfect platform for me to this day.
You don't need to pay for Rekordbox to use it in the clubs, as that version is free. If you buy a Rekordbox controller the version of the software you get for free with it is also plenty good enough to learn on.
Seems to me like Virtual DJ is the FL Studio of DJ software: highly capable and accessible (also LIFETIME FREE UPDATES) but a lot of people see it as an amateur software/toy. Serato seems like the Ableton of DJ software: highly capable and sleek but incredibly expensive for what it is. Really wish rekordbox didn't have a subscription model because it seems like a great middle ground between the two (the sleekness of serato with the capability of VDJ) but subscription models for software in my opinion are the devil and need to be avoided at all costs. Probably only going to use rekordbox as a preparation software because of this, and most likely gonna use VDJ as my performance software. Thanks for the great video!
I have a very specific need that, even if it exists, is not covered in descriptions of software offerings. I direct musicals for children. Our music comes in CD form. We need to be able to play a song, pause for dialogue, then play the next song. It would be helpful if the song was cued automatically and only required the push of a button to play. Are there any DJ programs out there that have that capacity?

I've really liked it too!i think the only thing I have a problem with is how slow the playlist manager can be... But like you said I think that is user error. I think if I would rebuild my library I would have less issues
We don’t see hatred for this platform!
That being said, my Prime 4 is now mainly used as a controller for DJay Pro.
i agree, it's not the equipment that makes you a great dj, it's the ability to fill a dancefloor and have fun doing it
Yes!
100% agree. Some people have all the gear but no idea. All the tricks and effects but no affect on the crowd.
"it's the ability to fill a dancefloor" - so having tits helps then, yes?
Thank you, Phil. I'm team djay pro solely because of the fluid beat grid. I love mixing old, handmade disco tracks with new, modern electronic music. With djay's beat grid, compensating for tempo fluctuations is not a problem at all. For me stems work fine.
Yes the new grids are generally amazing
Mixxx also has this feature
I started as 13 years beginner with Virtual, now I’m happy with Djay pro 🙂🙂
That's great!

Yes Serato for serious gigs and DJay Pro for more casual mixing.
Not according to Laidback Luke, though. The Neural Mix is truly next level. Best quality stems on the go and best beat grids.
I moved from Pioneer to Denon (Engine DJ) and I must say, it was the right move
Glad you're happy with that move!
i used Serato and Rekordbox but With Vdj flexibility , karoake , Video stems 2.0 stems feature makes it standout.
Virtual DJ is the best DJ software out there in terms of features and stability. What I like is that it’s ethnical-works with all sorts of abandoned ‘obsolete’ hardware.
Absolutely the #DJ software !!
watching from south africa i really go for virtual dj it never let me down
Glad to hear that
Absolutely
No crash
Glad you pointed out the issues with slow Traktor development. It's painful, frustrating and a growing concern. The roadmap is really underwhelming.
Hardly a new thing, sadly
I love Virtual DJ it literally allows me to use Deezer, Beatport, and tidal all at once. It’s also really easy of the cpu. I’d switch to algoriddim if I could do the same .
Thanks for sharing! You’re right it is underrated and powerful
All i've been using for the last 4 years is DJ ENGINE from Denon DJ and its always getting Better and Better by the time
It certainly is!
Awesome, thank you!
I have try Serato and Rekor but i feel more comfortable with VDJ
I have been with Traktor for many years. The sound quality is by far better. The effects although not built in are i feel much better and precise. I feel if Traktor can eventually get stems on the fly and better beat grid for those funk tracks it will be back on top.
They do keep promising...

Thanks.
It certainly isn’t flawless but it is the most ambitious platform right now
Facts and thanks for saying this @cosmicpuma.
@digitaldjtips Can't disagree there. Engine Dj need an app. I see that Rekordbox has updated the record feature for cdj/ mixer setups... cool.
Thanks for sharing!
They all have their advantages, that's why I love Lexicon! Yes it's another step but it opens up the possibility to play on any piece of gear
Yeah if you’re happy for that extra step it’s a good solution
I started djing with Virtual DJ two years ago, and love it. It doesn everything that i want to do, and works with both my intro Hercules controller and my new Roland controller. Have no reason or desire to change to anything else, and won't until there's something that I want to be able to do that VDJ can't. I don't get why VDJ isn't more popular, especially with the crappy pricing model that Serato has gone to.
Glad it’s working for you
VDJ had a bad stigma from the early days and that is still lurking around, so only ppl who hv given it a chance in recent years would appreciate it and see the value it has.
Yes, great value
Mixxx is ridiculously stable. In the same hardware on Windows 10: Serato, DJuced and Virtual DJ all crashed for one reason or another within one hour, while Mixxx on Linux just ran happily for days, not hours, I had it running continuously for more than a week, without issues.
So the user base of Mixxx may be tiny, but we don't want to use something else when stability matters. Many Pro DJs don't like to use laptops because they don't know Mixxx.
Thanks for this feedback.
I was using virtual 6 year back now I’m using searto & from 6 years I’m using serato is best software & very professional till now
Glad you’re enjoying it
VDJ all day!
that fact that it works with everything is huge. :)
Ain't that the truth!
Agreed! I use VDJ with Tidal, there is not a track out there I don’t have access to.
Djay pro for me. Had it sins they started.

Yeah, it certainly has plenty of advantages.

Lots of people showing love for djay in the comments this year, looks like it is winning people over!
Same here,2009 traktor,now djay pro,and its for me 👌
Why is the traktor behind everyone? Traktor only do not have stems standalone?
So even though I sit with some envy with all the cool things other platforms are doing, not sure how I would transition effectively from what I got now
There are still things that Traktor does best!
Traktor has had stems for years… They were one of the first DJ platforms to support it…
Which is why it's even more annoying that they haven't got Live stems yet. Or that they haven't fixed various common issues that have been around for years (e.g. deck load freezes and samples locking decks). And no new proper controllers in years!
Not the type of stems we're talking about.
Traktor: "The king"
Pretty sure there's a setting to change that behaviour in Rekordbox
@@digitaldjtips I'm pretty sure there is no such setting because I went through all of them three times. That's why I asked this question on Rekordbox' subreddit. I will report back here once someone replies.

A Technics 1200, well maintained, will out live us all..
You could well be right there!
FYI, Rekordbox has similar (for a fee)
For the record, I use Serato DJ Pro with Turntables, as well as a controller. I Use the is the "pioneer DJ DJM-S3 as my mixer. It's The Serato Version

It looks ropey but it is good software.
Record box and virtual dj pro are my favorite software for djing since day one I used serato dj in the past its good .
Thanks for sharing!
Only with the combination of Engine + SoundSwitch I could bring my whole LED mask project to live. Also, very kind team/staff I‘m constantly exchanging with. Anyway, great video, Phil!
It is a great integration
actually virtual dj and serato also work along with soundswitch. i personally use virtual dj and soundswitch simply because i already have a vdj license. hopefully down the line soundswitch creates a mobile app that can be used along side pioneer & denon cdjs / mixers / standalone controllers. would be nice to have access to library of tunes on phone and soundswitch without needing an additional computer running the software
I’ve been a DJ Pro fan since it was first released. Just upgraded to the Pioneer DJ FLX4
Good choice!
A hard questions as crashes are usually due to something external. When set up properly, most are pretty much 100% reliable.
I have been on Serato since the SL1. But I have an issue with glitching when I use my Rane One. Tech support says they’ve never seen my issue so I’m out of luck. Now I’m using Virtual DJ and overall I think it’s got Serato beaten!!
Most definitely better by far!!!
Sorry to hear you had issues we have not heard of that either
How do you find Virtual DJ's software audio quality?
@@digitaldjtips I think it sounds fine, though I haven’t used it on a club system.
VDJ because I can do everything quicker. The key mapping, responsiveness, and controller compatibility are top-notch for me and my business.
Thanks for sharing
Djay Pro is becoming very good. More stable than rekordbox or traktor, beatmatching feels amazing. I use it external mode with Traktor S2 MK3 and Zone 23.
Thanks for sharing
On rekordbox. It’s cool. Wished the stems feature would sound better. May consider virtual dj just for the stem quality and hardware compatibility.. I wonder how vdjs works with a cdj set up
Really well
What if I want to go 100% software? With no consoles, Like laptop and ipad. Is Djay Pro the way to go?
Yes, it is a good choice for this.
Thanks.
It certainly isn’t an ideal situation for inMusic

No, the problem is with the software, not your MacBook or a better MacBook would always help
I were also thinking about djuced...I am not sure should I jump to it.
This definitely makes a super-portable solution.

I use djay Pro with Nurmark Mixtrack Pro fx, that's a really good budget friendly controller.

I would love if you could make a video about the new Pioneer DJ-AlphaTheta change! big news apparently on the 25th
Possible monopolisation of the industry which based on history, will only increase prices and reduce competitive, driven innovation. Especially on flagship units.
No, because Traktor Pro 3 does not have on-board stems - you need special files, which means it does not have what I am talking about.
if traktor can have the new fluid beatgrid like djaypro
it will be great to use
do u think this will happen ?😢
Meanwhile Traktor pro 4 with stems is out so this video is fully outdated and the comments about Traktor is no longer true. Shame the video has no update to correct this…
Thank you I need to hear this more often.
You are so welcome
I'm happy with Engine; I'm still using when needed also Rekordbox. In the past I've been using also Traktor & Virtual DJ, but never used Serato.
Rekordbox 7 is awesome 🎉
Team DJay Pro forever
Definitely making waves at the moment
Great video, I am full pregnant with Pioneer and rekordbox with my CDJ3000 in the studio and an RX 3 for getting out gigging, purely convenience. I did have the Denon Prime Go for holidays and loved it, jsut a little inconvenience with functionality but not the end of the world. I sold the Go and was going to buy the Omnis Duo to keep with the same platform, but I just d not think it is worth the money and I still feel Go is a far better package and jsut the right size for travel, I have a feeling Denon may drop a new version of the Go.
They may indeed! That said, we really like the Omnis Duo.
I still use Traktor with the different NI controllers. Will it be possible to use those controllers with let's say Serato? As midi controller or such ? I really like those Native instruments Controllers so like to keep using them . Thanks
Unfortunately not
@@digitaldjtips Thank you very much . That is too bad. The Seranto controllers all look so childish especially if I like to start using the AlphaTheta EUPHONIA as a mixer. Not sure if using then the AUDIO 10 will have bad effect on the output sound ..
Are you familiar with PCDJ Dex 3?
Vaguely not look at it for years
I switched back to traktor from rekordbox because of hearing all the problems that come with the cdj 3000 which is the club standard now.
There are some fringe issues but they don't affect the vast majority of DJs.
Thanks for sharing that Angel!
Virtual dj has cloud storage with auto update on multiple devices .
It does indeed, a great new addition.
Wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of standard for all the software in regards to beat grids/cue points/loops etc.
Oh yes indeed
What are your thoughts on DJUCED from the Hercules Inpulse series. Is it more capable then Serato Light? I was looking for a small compact controller and considering the inpulse 200 mk2 or 300 because of it's small size.
It seems like it does what is needed to DJ with, but we do not use it and so can't give you a more detailed view on it.
It should be a condition for AlphaTheta to make Rekordbox USB export open source under MIT license when absorbing Serato. This would level the playing field a little bit, as DJs could prepare USB Sticks using any DJ software out there who decides to implement it.
It would also make sense for them to combine databases (should that sale go through - not a given right now).
I use virtual DJ, is it still worth it?
Yes
This video is 7 months old, now there is a new traktor that build from scratch. Would love to hear the new review. 🤔
YOU GUY'S ARE THE BEST ......HANDS DOWN !!!!!! Cheers 🔥
Thanks!
Awesome and informative, thanks Phil!
Glad it was helpful!
DJ pro can it be used in clubs?
or to connect to controllers?
Yes, and yes to some
If I want to connect any cdjs with laptop which software I should buy for lifetime licence
Various choices but VirtualDJ is a one-off payment and works with all CDJs
I've started DJing back in 2003 on a PC tower with dual CD decks installed as well. But ripping music to PC which was prime. I've tried different DJ software (like 5 different ones) over the years but I always come back to Virtual DJ. Virtual DJ is the perfect platform for me to this day.
My DJ tower right now is a yellow Compaq Presario.
But seriously.. VDJ, BABY!
Glad you're happy with Virtual DJ

Maybe but I wouldn’t count on it
hi, would you recommend using rekordbox dj with Opus Quad or serato dj,thanks.
Rekordbox
Definitely RB
what's best to start? i'm aiming for traktor, and i see clubs use rekordbox? i don't like it being a subscription...
You don't need to pay for Rekordbox to use it in the clubs, as that version is free. If you buy a Rekordbox controller the version of the software you get for free with it is also plenty good enough to learn on.
@@digitaldjtips thank you. So a ddj 200 would be good to start with... Say, instead of a Numark with serato...
if traktor can have the new fluid beatgrid like djaypro

You're right about VirtualDJ.
No DJ player pro?
I have a very specific need that, even if it exists, is not covered in descriptions of software offerings. I direct musicals for children. Our music comes in CD form. We need to be able to play a song, pause for dialogue, then play the next song. It would be helpful if the song was cued automatically and only required the push of a button to play. Are there any DJ programs out there that have that capacity?
What's wrong with just using a CD player or two?
29:49 V D 🤣🤣🤣
"Virtual DJ" is just fine with this cat TBH
Stems are supported by Traktor, when I was DJ’ing think they were early integrators. Unless that is removed now.
Not real-time with normal MP3s, which is the current way of doing this.
