I honestly never get tired of watching Mario game rankings because everyone has such different opinions. Some people would say you're crazy for putting the NSMB games above any of the NES ones d: Personally my favorite is Galaxy, but Odyssey was pretty close to beating it.
Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario game ever. It just hits home to me. It has the ABSOLUTE BEST music I have ever heard, creative galaxy's, and fun comets. Honeyhive galaxy is my favorite galaxy and I have no idea why, I love it
Galaxy is my favorite too but Odyssey comes veeeery close to beating it. In my mind Galaxy 1 and Odyssey are the only ones worthy of being on the top of this list or I guess 64 if you’re full on taking that nostalgia pill (but it honestly shouldn’t be number one in 2023).
The thing about Galaxy 2 Bowser is definetely its difficulty, mainly because the rest of the game is way harder, making the final boss somewhat anticlimantic. Yes, it is epic, but it could have been so much better if only they made it a bit harder...
I just wish people would appreciate 64 DS more. I played it loads as a kid (back when I didn't realize the controls were absolute trash) and I had SO much fan. 4 completely unique characters, 30 extra stars, a pretty fun online multiplayer, the MINIGAMES... If only they had remade the remake instead of the original in 3D all stars :(
And new stages like the beach one, goomboss one, etc. The powerups were a cool position, the rabbits were fun. And since I grew up with the D-pad, I don't mind the controls.
Man, so much memories with 64 ds, it was my first Mario game. I played it when I was 6 Years old and got 145 stars. I remember when I used to type "how to unlock waluigi on 64 ds" in UA-cam search bar...
I didn't have either version of 64 so I had no bias towards either version. It wasn't until 3D All-Stars that I finally played 64 and honestly I just wasn't having all that much fun with it. I hear so much about the controls being really solid but it just wasn't working out for me. Then very recently I tried out 64 DS and I liked it so much compared to the original that I 100% it. I would definitely like to see a port or remake of 64 DS as opposed to the original.
Mario Galaxy not top 3 is diabolical (it is meant to be played in the order the devs decided to make it cool unlocking new worlds, if the player could pick any world when they wanted in any order it wouldnt have the same vibes) however every other ranking was pretty much perfect.
But it doesn't unlock anything new playing it with every single character, you only need to 100% every level with one character to get the final challenge
3D World is probably my favorite Mario game. It's not perfect. It starts off way too easy, but by the time you hit the bonus worlds the difficulty is satisfying. The final boss is a disappointment, but the whole game is imbued with a sense of fun that's hard to describe. Once you're in it and bopping to the jazzy tunes and completing the fun bite-size levels one after another, you reach a kind of Zen state of video game fun. I also think New Super Mario Bros. U is underappreciated. People were burned out on the New Super Mario Bros. style by the time it came out. I get it. And people were disappointed that it was a launch game for a new system; they wanted a big sandbox Mario game for that. But many of the levels are very well-designed. I love the squirrel suit: gliding feels satisfying. It's just good and fun gameplay, and if you can separate your experience of playing it now from your disappointment at the timing of its release, it is, in my opinion, peak side-scrolling Mario gameplay.
Liking 3D World better is totally valid if you like gaming with friends. The "multiplayer" in Galaxy kinda sucks. I also think linearity over openness is better for a mario platformer since it allows for more direct level design. This is why i prefer galaxy over odyssey. Bowsers fury is the exception tho.
That was the ONLY explanation of Mario 64 that made me go, “huh, he’s got a good point”. Everyone else just says it’s fun to run around the castle and it’s a perfect game
@@Xavier17.5 How? I love SMW, don't get me wrong, and it was a great experience, but the nostalgia still doesn't beat the greatness that is Odyssey. Sure, it is a popular opinion, but i'm not gonna try to be different in hopes of making myself look sophisticated. SMO has better controls, better graphics, more content, better content "first and last one are subjective but only sort of" SMW is ahead of it's time, but Odyssey started a new era of games. I respect your opinion, I just think it's a bit out there. No need to resort to mindless insults.
@@TheOnly2nd It's not a mindless insult. You clearly grew up with Super Mario Odyssey if you actually think it's better than Super Mario World objectively and you think an opposing opinion is "out there". Super Mario World is perfect. It's the only game in existence to be perfect. If this were an objective list, it would be #1. Super Mario Odyssey did NOT start a new era of games. That's just plain wrong. There's no evidence. Most games these days aren't platformers regardless. And Super Mario Odyssey is so uninspired, it stole everything it has from previous installments. It's completely worthless as a piece of art, it's just a fun game. Much like Super Mario Galaxy 2. And yeah, I get it, people play games because they're fun. And that's why I put it above Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and really most of them. But it still just doesn't compare to Super Mario World in any regard whatsoever.
@rouxls_kaard1 super mario odyssey is one of the worst games ever made. it did nothing for the franchise, nobody wants to transform into the enemies. the enemies in mario are specifically designed to be some of the most unlikable enemies in any video game so you enjoy killing them more. the graphics are terrible because it's on nintendo switch in comparison to super mario world which has an amazing artstyle. saying 3d is better than 2d is just stupid. you're simply biased because you grew up in a 3 dimensional universe. there are a lot of good 3d games, but the people who made mario odyssey do not know how to make use of 3d, in fact, they don't know anything. they are some of the worst game developers i have ever seen. and i didn't grow up with super mario world i didn't grow up with any mario games so im the most unbiased person here. you're all a bunch of biased losers who think nintendo still makes good games so you feel better about giving them all your money.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves sunshine so much I absolutely acknowledge it’s infuriating flaws (I’m looking at you chuckster and pachinko levels) but it was the whole reason I wanted a GameCube as a kid I never beat it till 3d all stars and I was so proud of myself especially since my cousin who was like a brother to me had passed a few years ago and he always tried to help me beat it as a kid and he’s part of why I fell in love with gaming and I was just happy I was able to beat it for both of us and I just love the look and aesthetic of the game so yeah it definitely has some major difficulty issues but I can’t bring myself to hate it it means the world to me 😊🥰

Mario 64 it’s probably my least favorite of the mainline Mario games. I have absolutely no nostalgia for it whatsoever and I bought it on my Wii U a while back. I just thought it was really boring and not that fun
7:30 this is about the worst take ever. NSMB2 is a PHENOMENAL game, and id argue is a top 10 mario game. you may not see it at first, but it took what wii established and built so much on it. it had so many awesome unique levels, like The one where you ride on a big dry bones The icey underground tower with a bunch of spikeballs The totempole level in world 2 the rising poison level the sunset pipe level i can go on and not even to mention the amazing dlc. they also switched up the nsmb world order, by combining the beach and jungle worlds and having world mushroom and world flower. to GET to these secret worlds you do a super cool auto runner level I think nsmb2 is awesome and people crap on it ALL THE TIME when it doesnt even deserve it at all. it innovated so much with what little it had
My list 19: Super Mario Land 18 Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels 17: Super Mario Land 2 16: Super Mario Bros 15: Super Mario Bros 2 14: NEW Super Mario Bros 2 13: Super Mario Bros 3 12: Bowser’s Fury 11: Super Mario World 10: NEW Super Mario Bros U 9: Super Mario 3D Land 8: Super Mario Sunshine 7: NEW Super Mario Bros DS 6: Super Mario 64 5: NEW Super Mario Bros Wii 4: Super Mario 3D World 3: Super Mario Oddysey 2: Super Mario Galaxy 1: Super Mario Galaxy 2
The best thing about Mario lists is that you can disagree 90% and even then you became very happy with something. For example, I cant manage any list without SMB 3 on top 3, but then I saw Odyssey on number 1 and I loved the bold choice.
I'll be honest I don't agree with 64 DS having bad controls. The only major flaw and annoyance I had was that the characters sometimes walk in a circle instead of instantly turning which got me killed a few times. But that's easily avoidable by simply going idle first as that guarantees instant turns.
I agree with a lot on this list, especially with NSMB Wii being the best NSMB game. I'm surprised by the criticism of Super Luigi Galaxy. The green stars were so challenging and fun!
super mario bros is the first ever mario ive ever played as a kid omg the nostalgia! i just bought a switch now coz i miss playing mario and i didn’t even know bowzer’s the last boss of mario bros 😭
Super mario odyssey will always be my favourite main line mario game and my second favourite mario game in general my overall favourite mario game is mkwii
It warms my heart to see post millennium born people appreciating Mario 64. As someone who DOES have nostalgia for it thank you. (Though SMW is my top because it was the first video game I ever played way back in 93 as a toddler)
Mario 3D World is the most Mario Mario game in the series and I love it for that. I’m convinced that if they never cracked the code for free-form 3D platformers, we would have gotten games more akin to 3D World instead
nice ranking! even tho i don’t like odyssey i see why ppl love it, my fav is prob 3d world cuz you can use the any power ups in all levels and characters have different skills
I was replaying every Mario game on Nintendo switch online and 3D ALL stars. I didnt like Mario 64 as much as everyone else until I replayed super Mario world and realized that a third of Mario’s iconic moves comes from Mario 64. He wasn’t even able to ground pound until that game. That’s the game where that move came from. I liked the game before but didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else. But now I appreciate it more for how much important Mario moves come from that game.
Mario 64 should be lower imo, most of the love for that game is from nostalgia. Yes it’s an important title for Nintendo, but every other Mario game is just waaaay better.
imo they should've added like a tiny circle next to characters with other styles you can click on to reveal the other styles to make it more compacted but yet still keep characters
"Perhaps the most interesting thing about [NSMB U] was the challenges. Yeah, who remembers those?" Well.. I do. But for the people that don't, it might be a good idea to discuss them? They 100% help in NSMB U's favor.
Don't forget that Bowser's Fury (i'm pretty sure) was a test for Nintendo to know what people would like for the next 3d mario, so get hyped for the next game, it will take all the great things from bowser's fury
Here's my top 5 that no one cares about (I've played and beaten them all multiple times and Wonder once): 1. Sunshine 2. 3D World 3. World 4. Galaxy 5. Galaxy 2 Mario Maker 2 would be on this list if it counted.
Damn, someone who didn't put Galaxy at the top? Sign me up! I love both of them. Easily 10 out of 10 games. But 3d Mario to me will always be best as a platforming sandbox. The format lends itself to so much more replayability and depth of control and movement mechanics. Every time I go back to play 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey, it feels like a fresh experience and I learn new things every time. While objectively, Galaxy is a supreme level video game in its own right (and one I replay just as often), most of the time I do kind of feel like I'm doing the same things every time I play and I kind of miss the deeper core gameplay mechanics of the others.

People are allowed to have a favorite Mario game that isn’t Mario Galaxy.
@@solidsolo9258people are also allowed to express disagreement in the comments though a hyperbolic joke lol
Nice vid. I’d be interested to see where you rank Super Mario Bros Wonder on this list
My top 3: super mario 3d world, super mario galaxy, tie between oddessey and galaxy 2.
"Super Mario Bros was the game that started it all."
Donkey Kong: am I a joke to you?
POV: you just watched someone call Mario Galaxy “less personal” than Bowser’s f***ing Fury
To clarify: I love Bowsers Fury but this take is ridiculous
It could be the nostalgia talking but Super Mario World will always be the best for me
Galaxy being outside of the top 5 is criminal
AND MARIO SUNSHINE IS THE FIRST 3D APPEARANCE OF YOSHI
Super mario 64 roof:*AM I A JOKE TO YOU-*
First PLAYABLE appearance.
yeah first playable one
Yoshi’s first 3D appearance was in sm64 not sunshine
My personal ranking:
1. 64
2. Galaxy
3. Galaxy 2
4. Oddysey
5. Bros 3
6. World
7. Sunshine
8. 3D World
9. New Wii

14. Land 2
15. Bros
16. New 2
17. Bros 2
18. Land
19. Lost Levels
20. Run
64 is overrated.
@@HungryWardendidnt ask
i KNOW blud did NOT just put smb1 over nsmb2 😭 🙏
I also think linearity over openness is better for a mario platformer since it allows for more direct level design. This is why i prefer galaxy over odyssey. Bowsers fury is the exception tho.
nice video! but Sunshine was not yoshi's first 3d appearance, his first was in Super Mario 64 as the 120 star reward :)
Probably he meant the First Time you could use him in 3d
Super Mario Land 2 is a top 5 2D Mario game for me. The game is so fun and creative
I agree
Same here, it is my favorite
Hell yeah Super Mario Land 2 is EASILY the most underrated Mario game!
That was the ONLY explanation of Mario 64 that made me go, “huh, he’s got a good point”. Everyone else just says it’s fun to run around the castle and it’s a perfect game
my top 5:
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Super Mario World
3. Super Mario Odyssey
4. Super Mario Bros. 3
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2
crazy #2 ngl, that over odyssey?
@@TheOnly2nd new gen.
@rouxls_kaard1 super mario odyssey is one of the worst games ever made. it did nothing for the franchise, nobody wants to transform into the enemies. the enemies in mario are specifically designed to be some of the most unlikable enemies in any video game so you enjoy killing them more. the graphics are terrible because it's on nintendo switch in comparison to super mario world which has an amazing artstyle. saying 3d is better than 2d is just stupid. you're simply biased because you grew up in a 3 dimensional universe. there are a lot of good 3d games, but the people who made mario odyssey do not know how to make use of 3d, in fact, they don't know anything. they are some of the worst game developers i have ever seen. and i didn't grow up with super mario world i didn't grow up with any mario games so im the most unbiased person here. you're all a bunch of biased losers who think nintendo still makes good games so you feel better about giving them all your money.
he the type of guy to put 3d world above mario galaxy
And I'd do it again 😂
while my ranking is completely different than yours i appreciate you providing good reasons for your ranking

I will 100% back you up on Bowser's Fury. Yes....its short....but its EXCELLENT. The best 3D Mario game alongside Odessy.
But the thing is Nintendo DID make an official mainline game list. It's beem featured on their Mario Portal official website. Super Mario Run listed as mainline. I think that game is better than Super Mario Land tbh. 😭

Odyssey is insane that is why it is #1. Loved the fake out (SM2) I almost spit out my imaginary coffee.
Mario 64 it’s probably my least favorite of the mainline Mario games. I have absolutely no nostalgia for it whatsoever and I bought it on my Wii U a while back. I just thought it was really boring and not that fun
I feel like one of the problems with it is it barely has any challenge other than bottomless pits or environmental hazards.
You’re missing 3 absolute masterpieces, Super Mario RPG, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, and Paper Mario
Those are also spinoffs so they don't count
Bro putting Galaxy lower then top 3 is CRAZY🤦♂️
7:30 this is about the worst take ever. NSMB2 is a PHENOMENAL game, and id argue is a top 10 mario game. you may not see it at first, but it took what wii established and built so much on it. it had so many awesome unique levels, like
The one where you ride on a big dry bones
The icey underground tower with a bunch of spikeballs
The totempole level in world 2
the rising poison level
the sunset pipe level
i can go on
and not even to mention the amazing dlc. they also switched up the nsmb world order, by combining the beach and jungle worlds and having world mushroom and world flower. to GET to these secret worlds you do a super cool auto runner level
I think nsmb2 is awesome and people crap on it ALL THE TIME when it doesnt even deserve it at all. it innovated so much with what little it had
Finally, someone who understands nsmb 2. One of the best 2D Mario’s imo.
BOYCOTT MARIO THREE. JUSTICE FOR NEW MARIO 2.
it was not innovative at all. Felt like a nsmbwii port again, and the bossfights are the worst koopaling bosses in the series.

The best thing about Mario lists is that you can disagree 90% and even then you became very happy with something. For example, I cant manage any list without SMB 3 on top 3, but then I saw Odyssey on number 1 and I loved the bold choice.
Someone once said “Next up is Super Mario 64 DS which I love everything about except the controls”
Whoever said this is 100% correct
@@steffmart8475 it was Nathaniel Bandy
I'll be honest I don't agree with 64 DS having bad controls. The only major flaw and annoyance I had was that the characters sometimes walk in a circle instead of instantly turning which got me killed a few times. But that's easily avoidable by simply going idle first as that guarantees instant turns.
Solid list. I don’t know that I would change a thing, honestly.
I agree with a lot on this list, especially with NSMB Wii being the best NSMB game. I'm surprised by the criticism of Super Luigi Galaxy. The green stars were so challenging and fun!
Good list but I'd move Galaxy 1 and 2 up, and 64 down.
64 has aged worse than games 5 years older.

Subbed man. I usually don't subscribe to channels but the amount of work you put into this is insane. Thanks! Very helpful!
Sunshine/bowser's fury at number 3 odyssey at number 2 and Galaxy CRUSHES the competition at number 1
It warms my heart to see post millennium born people appreciating Mario 64. As someone who DOES have nostalgia for it thank you. (Though SMW is my top because it was the first video game I ever played way back in 93 as a toddler)
Every 3d mario game in my opinion are amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 2:52
Honestly Odyssey built on Galaxy, a masterpiece only made possible because of a masterpiece.
dude i agree completely with your list, i didn’t expect that 😭😭
Mario 64 should be lower imo, most of the love for that game is from nostalgia. Yes it’s an important title for Nintendo, but every other Mario game is just waaaay better.
Yeah. It’s mostly nostalgia that carries it on people’s lists.

imo they should've added like a tiny circle next to characters with other styles you can click on to reveal the other styles to make it more compacted but yet still keep characters
13:20 * Yoshi makes his 1st PLAYABLE 3D appearance 😄
You’re insane for putting sunshine over smb3 lol
Super mario wonder will probably be in my top three favorite mario games
@AbigOne121Its sad, but that doesn't taint the game in any way so it's fine
"Perhaps the most interesting thing about [NSMB U] was the challenges. Yeah, who remembers those?"
Well.. I do. But for the people that don't, it might be a good idea to discuss them? They 100% help in NSMB U's favor.
I respect and value your opinions, however you should be jailed for putting the galaxy games that low
oh wow, I just found out that Mario bros wonder and Geometry dash 2.2 are literally releasing 2 days apart from eachother :0
Don't forget that Bowser's Fury (i'm pretty sure) was a test for Nintendo to know what people would like for the next 3d mario, so get hyped for the next game, it will take all the great things from bowser's fury
Sounds like a plan
i once got 50 cat shines in bowsers fury in one sitting
and i love it for that
10:12 this game had me in a chokehold! And the minigames even more
My favorite game on the list is Super Mario Odyssey.
Never understood the fascination with 64
Here's my top 5 that no one cares about (I've played and beaten them all multiple times and Wonder once):
1. Sunshine
2. 3D World
3. World
4. Galaxy
5. Galaxy 2
Mario Maker 2 would be on this list if it counted.
I believe the Mario encyclopedia has a timeline with only mainline games up to 2013
10:45 also after you beaten the game there’s a secret challenge mode you gotta go in the game and hit L,R,L,R,X,X,Y,Y
3D World above the Galaxy games? What is wrong with you? 😜
Ikr (even though 3D World + Bowsers Fury is still my #2 behind Galaxy 1)
i hated playing through galaxy, seriously that game was SOO boring
Where’s I am a teacher: Super Mario Sweater?
I think that the 3D model of Yoshi appears for the first time in 64…
