BOOST YOUR RISE: Jack up the power on your Orbea!

- The need for speed! The Shimano EP8 RS motor on the Orbea Rise has 3 modes: Eco, Trail & Boost. But the default Boost mode does not give you access to the full 60 Nm of torque or assist. Use the Shimano eTube app to adjust those settings.

For the love of mountain biking!
I just bought an H15 and immediately took it on the trail. Like you, I had not read the manual, nor did I have any idea that the settings were set much lower. I was so disappointed buying a $6000 plus bike that I almost took it back. After watching your video, I re-tuned it and now, I feel the bike is worth it and I love it. Thank you for putting this video together!
Awesome! This bike opened up so many trails for me this summer. Love it!
Agree. I bought the bike, picked it up at the LBS, and after they got shocks set up, etc, I took it for a quick test drive… and was immediately feeling buyers remorse, as the power seemed significantly lower than the hard tail Orbea Urrun that I’d tried. Then remembered about the app, and was hoping and praying the whole way home that it made enough of a difference. So when I switched to Profile 2 and upped the power, it immediately restored my faith… and made the smile big. Glad you were able to share this with others.
Right on! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. I'm going to convert mine to a 160/160 mullet this winter as I found myself taking it out on steeper & rougher descents this summer.

Alright, I thought I should also post some eMTB etiquette. I only use full power if I'm alone or with friends. I never rocket past any other bikers. If I need to pass on a fire road, I slow right down. I never follow bikers closely behind on singletrack--I use the same passing etiquette on my eMTB as I do on my normal MTB. I always let other riders drop in on a trail first--partly because I'm on an eBike and partly because I'm slow and cautious and most local riders will blow past me.
oh i only use full power when im in traffic, not when im mountain biking, i like to put in the effort, but it's nice to have
Nothing like you and your Rise buddies getting a new bike for free after a year 😉
Ha! It's kinda true. ....though, I think I still have some PTSD from the initial sticker shock.
@@IDoBlues Yeah anting up to get a hand in the emtbing game is a little painful to say the least! My RM Altitude PP is worth every penny though 😎Cheers
First ride on my used Rise M20, I reset all the e-tube to the defaults for each setting. Rode the first ride with my eMTB ride group. 3hrs, 40kms 850m climbing. Initially I was cautious about the range and so used eco and trail and OFF mostly, but then on the real steep rocky climbs I needed boost to keep up with the fullFAT eMTBs in the bunch. Later on the flat/rolling/peddally trails I ran on boost and peddled my ring off trying to get/stay past the 25kmh limiter and chase a rider on a chipped fullFAT bike. So I recon the in the end I spent 50%of the ride in boost and peddling really hard. I had that gravelly rasping lung breathing that shows how hard I had been riding.
Outcome. at the end we compared notes on battery and effort levels. The main guy I chased most of the day was trying hard himself on his 'tweaked' ECO mode on a 630W battery. He had 20% battery left. My Rise had used only 2 of a possible 5 bars. So he figured he had used about 500w for the ride and I about 180-200w. Needless to say I have wound up the levels on the Rise a tad to give me more assist. Turbo is at max, Trail is the old turbo and ECO is still minimal. I will also use OFF as the bike pedals well enough with the power off.
I just got h10 and it did not come with display unit, can I still reset the power mode without it?
Thx thx thx man you make my day! Same shit on my, don’t understand why they do this! I set to 60nM and and now you can RISE!
✌🏻👍🏻👹🤟🏻
PS. what is the your average range after this change, have you noticed any big change?
@@TWARDOWSKY. I haven't really tested range. My rides are usually pretty short (45-60 minutes) and I charge every 2nd ride.
thankyou, Im a new orbea owner and will def check it out
Thank you. Great advice.
I bought an Orbea Rise last week. My first proper ride was a big disappointment as the power was unresponsive when I needed it and there was not enough of it anyway. The retailer wouldn't take it back as I'd ridden it. I emailed Orbea online support and they confirmed I'd bought the wrong bike - I should have bought a Wild which has a Bosch motor and more power. But I knew the Wild is much heavier 24kg whereas the Rise is 15.9kg so not so easy to lift over stiles, gates etc when needed. I thought I'd have to sell the bike and take a big financial hit. After watching this video I changed the power settings to something that suited me. Now it's like having a completely different bike, It's perfect for me. It goes like a rocket up those hills if I want to take it easy! So thanks a million I Do Blues for posting this video!
It is crazy to me that Orbea support didn't mention that you could up the assist on the app. Glad the boost helped!
La mia la puedo regular hasta 85 nwm 🙌
I hadn’t realised either so I’ve just done the same on my h30 can’t wait to have ride in the new settings
Night & day difference! Let me know how it goes.
@@IDoBlues what a difference I must have hit about 10 more laps with the extra power. the more I ride it the more I love this orbea. Thanks for the advice.
Mines a month old. Straight to profile2, max setting already installed. Jobbed
I guess they don’t want people jumping on rooky style on full boost
I ride my canyon spectral 2019 with E8000 motor with 24.5kg with eco mode assist30/torque 30, trail 55/50 and Boost 90/50, ride 90% of time in trail mode, eco mode its like a SOS Just for Last kms, Boost Just for Hard climbs. 70nm of max torque of E8000 its to much power input.
Ya, I agree. I couldn't imagine needing more than the 60 Nm I get on my boost. But people with the full powered 100+ Nm bikes say once you get drunk on power, it's hard to go back.
can you also change the motor to 85 NM somehow? isnt 85 NM what the motor would be capable?
Yep. You can jailbreak it and boost it up to 85 NM. Check out this link -> www.stunlocker.com
@@IDoBlues can you fo the same for the TQ motor (which is used for trek fuel exe)?
Das the jailbreak also work for shimano ep801 motor?
@@Gerald-iz7mv Good questions. I'm not sure to either.
Do you know if the EP8 Rs has a specific firmware update as opposed the the ones provided by shimano on their site?
I think that's the only place you can get the official firmware updates. If you'd like to crack the EP8 RS to access the full power of the EP8, you can go here -> www.stunlocker.com (though I haven't tried it myself.....I'm happy with the 60 Nm).
@@IDoBlues managed to clock in a ride yesterday and looks like I'll be sticking to the RS tune for the time being. Yeah agreed that 60nm is enough. Thanks for the information sir. Subbed!
u can unlock 85nm...
Yep, but I have no need for more than 60 Nm.
Are you in profile 1 or profile 2?
It came in Profile 1 and that's what I've always used (50% assist, 47 Nm in Boost). I'm now in Profile 2 and customized the settings there for all three modes: Eco, Trail & Boost. For Boost, I increased the assist from 60% (Profile 2's default) to 100%. Profile 2's default max torque is the full 60 Nm. I could have customized Profile 1, but I just ended up doing it in Profile 2 (no difference really). Moving forward, I'll just stick with my custom settings--I won't be flipping back and forth between Profile 1 & 2.
@@IDoBlues how do you confirm you’re in profile 2? I can’t figure it out.
@@wldtrak I think the only way is on the app. But I only have the basic 3-light indicator, not the full Shimano display unit.
this is just stupid sorry, of course u have to make adjust, the first day ! i thought this video was about how simple it is to go from 60nm to 85, that would actually be helpful ! this ? not so much, RTFM
If you want to jailbreak your firmware to get the full 85 Nm, go here -> www.stunlocker.com
Read the manual? ...clearly I should have. But people don't read manuals. It's one of life's truths. Just like I assumed hitting the Power Button meant the bike turned on, I assumed a top setting called "Boost" meant I was getting the top level of power. When you buy a car, you assume the top gear is the top gear. You don't need to read a manual, install an app, do a custom setup to get access it.
I just went and found the manual I got. Nowhere does it say that Boost doesn't give the full available 60 Nm.
02 Change Between Assist Modes
Press X to increase the assist mode up to the maximum available (Boost). Press Y to decrease the assist mode down to the No-Assist mode (Off).
05 Shimano ETube Project App
The EP8 motor also allows the selection of two different assist profiles. Within each profile, the power output of of each assist mode can be modified to achieve the power that you need in every situation.
Oh, and YUOAISFAIKM.
@@IDoBlues you were way nicer in your response to nitraM321 than I would have been.
jesus, thanks man
