The world's best mountain bike trails from the perspective of an intermediate rider. North Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, and other BC networks. We'll also look at bikes, MTB gear, and maybe explore some SUP surfing too.
SUP: Surfing K-61 in El Salvador
A quick clip of a morning surf at K-61 in El Salvador. It's a good spot for longboarding and catching some waves on a stand up paddle board.

New trails, new challenges! (The bunny runs of Cypress)
I´m waiting for my FOX, can I use the same music for my reel! It´s awesome!!!
Ha! Ya, of course. Giv'r.
hey there, thanks for the clip. i'm always on the lookout for good SUP spots; was that recently?
March 2024. The other popular breaks in the area aren't great for SUP. El Sunzal can work for SUP, but is much more crowded. K-61 is a bit more remote and is a flatter wave that better suits longboards & SUP. If you have some good SUP spots on your list, and they aren't secret spots, let me know. I'm hunting too.
How about a good prevention brace?
I think it could be pretty useful to prevent fatigue and help minimize an over-use injury. Not 100% how much it would help in a big crash. It might....but I'm not sure.
Very cool Thank you
The black piece at the top of the rear triangle is an upper pulley wheel guard? You could go with a DH specific rear cassette. Sweet setup!!
Ya, that plastic piece was a mud shield for the pulley. Commencal discontinued using it. I've actually taken mine off. I could get a DH-specific rear cassette, but I'm absolutely loving the single speed--no shifter, no derailleur.
I think this is Bull shit. A. is 5.10 tall and long arm and long legs. B. is 5.10 tall and short limbs and long torso. They are both in the middle of size medium and size large. The RAD says A is a size medium and B is a size large. But, A is good to go size large and B is to size medium.
Thanks, I figured out the part I was missing. All the other videos say to use 2.5 not 2.55 that I saw, but now I can just estimate the actual rad buy a calculation of the square root of reach squared plus frame stacked squared! Tells me what is in the ball park! Also for handlebar width, go to a table and shove your armpit into it and lay your arm/hand straight on the table. Mark your where your longest finger lands. The measure from the end of the table where your armpit to the mark on the table. This is the only reliable method I have found to measure your arm/hand length. I am 5 ‘ 10” with a 29” inseam and a long torso. My measurement came to 760 in my method and your method gave a min of 746.76 and a max of 782.32 so the alternate method could have some merit and is based on just arm length. I curious what arm length actually is and your preferred width to see how close the alternate method is. Thanks!
Bros casing every jump u gotta go faster buddy
I case tooo much. Not faster though...I need better technique.
@@IDoBlues just pedal inbetwee. Jumps and mid air try to push the bike in front
Sick Commencal though I love the ohlins fork ❤
Making a lighter hub is much easier when you rule out points of engagement, just for reference. Not comparing hub to hub, just the silent feature vs weight.
Seth is girl sized tho. Like i'm 163cm and he's about that same height. This is why i take his advice. Also i was at region's largest bicycle store recently, absolutely gargantuan, and WTF THERE IS LITERALLY NOT A SINGLE BIKE I FEEL COMFORTABLE ON WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED SINCE THE 90S, DO YOU LOT THINK SHORTER WOMEN JUST DISAPPEARED OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH WHAT THE HELL! What am i supposed to ride a fixie child bike? Also how did they get so damn heavy, bloody hell, i don't need a suspension fork, i don't need disc brakes, like how do you even build an alu bike that i can't even lift, why. I can carry a 90s steel bike EASILY. No i'm not speaking electric, i don't have money for that, i can pedal.
Ya, but he didn't shrink but recently sized down. You don't need a suspension fork? That's not really mountain biking....what I'm talking about here probably doesn't apply to what you are looking for.
One of the best videos EVER! Thank you for respecting our time and good luck with your channel :)
Ha! ....don't bore us, get to the chorus!
Crank it up needs MORE jumps.
Ha! I agree!
Riding pump tracks or bmx tracks also helps with jumping skills

Went for the first time last week with a buddy that goes a few times a year. Spent some good time on crank it up and c-more. Definitely made some progress in berms and jumping. It was an epic day! Thanks for the video. Keep it up dude!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
In 2010 this was the best part of the final day of BC Bike race! Lots a XC folks weren't loving it but I was ❤
Ha! That's great.
What was the impact of the 27.5 rear wheel change on battery / distance?
It reduces your top speed for motor assist. With the style of riding I do, I didn't notice any difference in battery or distance (though I imagine there is some effect on that).
Love this! As someone who can't do aline safely I really appreciate this video.
Yep. You & me both.
Really sick no nonsense build. I like it. Other than brake and contact points, I would build one exactly the same
Excellent info. Thanks!
Thanks! I appreciate that.
Good video.
does the chain rattle a lot or no
Doesn't rattle in the slightest. The single speed chain tensioner does its job well.
@@IDoBlues ok thats good in a fiew years ill get bc im young maybe there will be better and quieter version
I want to check this trail out, but not sure if I'm ready. How does it compare to the typical blacks at Whistler? I've ridden all of them except Original Sin. I've also done lower ride don't slide, which was about on the highest end of my comfort level, but I made it. (not the pro line though)
You should have no problem on 7th. It is a pretty tight trail at times with some sharp corners but nothing consequential (except one armoured turn near the bottom that is a bit freaky). All the major features are optional. You might hit a couple spots you walk a short bit, but maybe not. Original Sin is my favorite tech trail on Whistler. Hit that!
do you live far from Whistler?
Hour and a half away.
Will you be changing the name of the channel to I do blacks? Oh, that doesn't sound very good...never mind.
Excellent 😎 Was There Saturday
Thanks great video
Thanks. I appreciate that.
The Boy: "I didn't think I'd get this today" Him: "You wanna do it again?" 😂😂
Nice jump
Self-doubt is the new mindset ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Three bikes later, I definitely use reach as my prime sizing number. For me at 171cm (5'7-ish), it's 435-445 mm.
Catalyst are amazing pedals. Right away you’re gonna know. Use the bigger pins. Standing is better. Corners and jumps are better. I don’t know why you would not have a pair.
Agreed!
Nice to see a video from you, been a few weeks.
Thanks. Been enjoying just riding!
What camera? Image quality is impressive 😎
It's the GoPro 11 mini. 4k, 60 fps, hyperview.
Hey, great video! Could you please tell me, how you decide to go for an S frame? On my other bikes i ride on M (Enduro and Freerider from Propain) i am so confused. i am 1.68 m of height and not sure if S or M. thanks a lot in advance. Cheers Alex
I know I like bikes with a reach of 435-440mm, so the small was an easy choice for me. I'm 1.71m tall. I talk more about how I think about sizing here - ua-cam.com/video/SnXe2RmxKrE/v-deo.html
@@IDoBlues thanks a lot for your quick response. Will have a look into your video. I was wondering, why you ride S while you are over 1.70m height.
Can the measurement method from this video also be used for an XC bike?
It's more focused on Enduro. l'm not experienced with XC which has some different goals.
nice Video. Thanks a lot man. just consiring of buying also the v5. 😍
It's a beast.
great little trail and I agree completely with your take! we rode Expresso today and decided to finish on Pennzoil simply to mix it up (instead of Lower Digger). both are awesome options. In fact, a couple loops of Pennzoil/Lower Digger would be a great short morning/afterwork ride.
That's my winter lunch ride... Quick loop of Pennzoil, back up to Lower Expresso, up to Lower Digger, then home.
Im 5'5 i used 27.5 medium , mullet
All mediums are not created equal. What's the reach on it?
@@IDoBlues 450mm reach
Im 5'5 im used 27.5 medium frame with 460mm reach
A 460mm reach for 5'5 seems long to me. But if it's working for you, all good!
Thats a beautiful bike and a cool video.
Looking forward to a few loops up there with you this year!
The best! Thanks a lot!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Looks so fun! +1 on the Dad jumps
I'll cook up a petition. Dad Jumps.... somewhere in Fitz.
single speed?
Yep.
what’s the gear ratio?
are your handle bars ok? they look wonky
12 degree backsweep....ya, looks distorted in pov.
Thanks for this. Nice to see a review from someone who isn't a Pro rider. Too bad about the rotor. I live in Rossland, so this is in the neighbourhood, and coincidentally, I also ride a Rise.
Love Whiskey & Crown Point!
this definitely has its limits, at least past the RAD part. I'm 6'6 with a 6'10 wingspan and 38in inseam, this would put me on 850-900mm wide bars and 185-190mm long cranks. I do agree with the reach and stack numbers tho, I prefer a 50mm riser on a single size down from what the manufacturer recommends which lines up perfectly with the RAD numbers. Probably a great bar/crank sizing video for "normal" sized people, definitely good for frame size!
Absolutely. These "start here" numbers start to collapse when you move far to either end of the bell curve.
Thanks for the video. By the way I make my coffee don't need Starbucks or wars
Does the frame crack like the supreme v4?
...like the V4. Not that I've heard of.
Really nice video, I love this song
I've lost friends sending them down this trail :P It's kind of crazy that its marked a blue. You're missing out on a large part of Fromme if you don't ride it though. All the trails spill out onto it at some point.
"I've lost friends sending them down this trail" - laughed out loud at this one.
Thank you verry much man! This is the best i'v seen on a bike sizeing so far!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
