    I love this video. The third time I did this, I just used a funnel to add the salt slowly. It worked like a charm.

    Thanks for the video. We have the same water softener. When the salt starts clogging, just tap the container and it will clear the spout which will allow you to add the remaining salt.

      @neilrankin9945 thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. Sometimes we use a small screw driver ( but anything will do) to move the salt around to clear the opening if we need to.

    Good demonstration. I have stored my water softener (drained) over the summer and I now want to put it back into use. I read the instructions for using Sani-System to sanitize the contents before starting to use it again. Do you bother to do this after storage? They also suggest backflushing and regenerating. I did a regeneration before storage so it seems unnecessary to do it again?

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  11 місяців тому

      Hello, thanks for watching our video. We're full time so we never store our water softener so I can't answer your storage question about the Sani-System. Maybe someone else will answer. If you did a regeneration before storing, you should not need to regenerate again. However, you may want to let the water run for a couple of minutes to make sure you flush out any old water that may be left on the bottom before using again.

    Used your method just now, but found mixing with water...salt doesn't completely mix well, so I kept a spatula with me to help get the salt out of the solution from my container. Additionally, don't use 'too much' water, as the first one I did as mentioned with the water, and the second I took my time at pouring the second container into our larger softener, but before all the salt was emptied, water came right up to the top, even after making sure all water was expelled, so I think next time I'll have water with me, pour it in by hand, and as it clumps up use a small amount of water to get the salt washed down, then continue. It's currently coming out (pencil thickness amount) for the 30 minutes as I write this, so a big thanks for the video, as I'll probably relate to the video each time, as I find it's a good idea to feel no mistakes will be made, if checking with the video annually, or ever how often one needs to regenerate. This time, 1 1/2 months and it was due, last year I got two months before the need arose, but as mentioned, it depends on the hardness of the water in the area!

      @Powerstroke98 thanks for the detailed comments. I've experimented with the regeneration process a few times now. I've found it easiest to just pour the salt slowly into the softener after you empty the water and use a small screwdriver or something similar to move the salt around if it clumps up.

    Great video!, I want one of these. Let me ask you, do you know how many times we can do this regeneration process before needing to change the entire tank? Or maybe there is a way to add the resin needed for the tank to properly work?. I am just looking ahead, wouldn't want to change this tank very often.

    • @RiversToRidgesRV

      @liarperez thank you for watching our video and spending the time to leave a comment. The resin in the tank last for 7 - 10 years according to the website. After that, you can just replace the resin.

    On both the 'in' and 'out' side of the softener tank, it is always a good idea to use a 90° brass 'L' (ell). This reduces the stress on the hose/fitting connections at the softener.
    ....additionally all hose conections at the rv and the supply spigot should be accompanied with a 45° or 90° fitting, whatever is most appropriate, again to ease the strain on hose/fitting . They will appreciate the consideration!

      The 45° or 90° fittings contain lead and would not be safe for drinking water. That would not be good to use. I do not that make them for draining water. The units on Amazon that have them are made in China and use fittings not safe for drinking water.

      @@RiversToRidgesRV that was my thinking, thank you for the replies. So, I actually have a very large basement storage area in my fifth wheel (I can sit in there) and I have the utility area behind a wall of my water manifold - with plenty of room to install this with easy access. I am going to put a drip pan with a drip line that will run perpendicular and straight underneath the camper - so this system will be level, protected, concealed and easy to get to for when I need to do the regeneration, etc.

    When you are traveling between RV parks/Campgrounds, do you empty the water out of the softener or leave it in and just screw the caps back in to prevent water from spilling out?

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  Рік тому +2

      @robh063 I just turn the water softener upside down to drain out most of the water, then put the caps on for traveling. I remove the water just to keep the weight down a little bit.

    How long do you leave the salt water (Brine) in the tank to regenerate the resin beads?

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  8 місяців тому

      The salt stays in the tank, just pour the correct amount into the tank and leave it in there. Over time, the salt will get used up and have to be replaced again.

      @@RiversToRidgesRV To clarify, the only "salt" remaining in the tank is the sodium ions that are attached to the resin beads. The vast majority of the salt is flushed out during the regeneration process. As the softener is used, calcium and magnesium ions displace the bound sodium ions in a competitive process until the beads are saturated with calcium and magnesium, then it's time to regenerate.

      No sir, the Salt is a cleaner and doesn't remain in the tank. Think of the Salt as Soap. There's a prescribed rinse period of about 20 min on trickle and 5-10 min on full blast to strip the Salt and Minerals out of the tank. Read your manual!

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  5 місяців тому

      @digger105337 if you're referring to my response to "How long do you leave the salt water (Brine) in the tank", it was a lot easier to say the salt stays in the tank, then to explain the whole process about ions and positive/negative charges again. We have the Double Standard model and for the regeneration we add Two 26 oz. boxes of iodized/non-iodized salt, then it's actually 24 - 30 minutes of a slow trickle, then 6 - 8 minutes of a full stream to flush the system.
      Hope this explains my original answer
      Dan

  • @digger105337
    @digger105337 5 місяців тому

    Think of the Salt as Soap. You suds it up and rinse it off. After flushing there's no salt left doing anything. Your water shouldn't taste salt, if it does, rinse longer. People with salt intake restrictions should have NO worries about ingesting salt when rinsed properly. Use the full amount of Salt ( soap) that's recommended, or it won't Regen correctly and need to be done very soon again. You also don't add salt from time to time as some people think. Remember the Salt is a cleaner, not what softens the water.

    Don't you want to back flush the tank first before you add the salt?

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  Рік тому +2

      Hey Rick, you should back flush your water softener every 3 months. 2-5 minutes for a Standard Softener and 5-10 minutes for a Double Standard. You don't have to back flush each time you do a regeneration.
