    Shout out to Opus 88 for giving us this feature for such a cheap price. The demonstrator 88 (koloro) will forever be my favorite pen for long form writing and travel companion. I could use less rotations to uncap.
    Plus thier customer service is quite good, they don't break, don't burp and hold a lot of ink.
    And call me pretentious, there is something attractive about the simple eye-dropper filled method; no moving parts, that get in the way of enjoying your pen.

    It looks like a poorly designed pen. The section is too small, the cap requires too many turns to unscrew and it doesn't post securely. It's a hard pass for me.

    I have a Halloween special edition of this pen and I just can't get behind it. Cap also doesn't post worth a dang on mine and this pen is knife's edge the right size to write comfortably with my 2XL glove hands. I love my Omar, but this one was a swing and a miss for me.

    Doodlebud, I have found multiple pens not writing after eye dropper like filling. I wonder if a small vacuum is created somewhere between the nib and ink chamber?

      @judyjacobs5827 27 днів тому

      The imaginary sky signs are based primarily on astronomy. The astrological stuff has been added later. Since the charts were created a few thousand years ago, the planets' relative positions have changed and the "signs" don't match the months and days any more. Get some tissues for your runny nose or some cream for your rash and just enjoy this cute pen.

    I like the concept of the Opus88 Mini (I have the "checkered cab") version but I, too, find the posting pretty iffy -- and it's small enough that I have to post it. I'm always knocking the cap loose while I'm writing. I wanted it for travel but fretted about losing the cap so it's been supplanted in that role by the Opus88 Fantasia (screw on cap and post).

    Did they ever fix the issue on the minis where the cap rattles and wobbles while posted instead of seating properly and centered along the long axis of the pen body? They have some cute designs, but the posting issues (especially on a pen you have to post to make usable) always kept me from pulling the trigger on one.

    • @Doodlebud

    Have been looking at the fun designs by Opus but I'm not sure about eye droppers and the small size....maybe some day I'll see one in person (in the sticks so no brick and mortar under 2 hours!!) to get a hand feel to see if an Opus is something for me...

  • @osirisgolad
    @osirisgolad 28 днів тому +2

    Japanese eye droppers don't write immediately because you're not sucking ink through the feed when filling like with other filling systems, which leaves the internal surface of the feed bone dry. Best way I've found to get around that is to slowly turn it nib down and pull the rod out, then turn it nib up. This will leave a thin film of ink across the back of the antechamber or feed. Then you can slowly push the rod back in and that film of ink will be pushed through the feed(on the Opus 88s you can watch it travel through the transparent antechamber), which wets the surfaces and allows the ink to grab on. Essentially priming it with 10% ink and 90% air bubble so it doesn't burp.

    • @yuklimka7251
      @yuklimka7251 18 днів тому

      If you like to live on the wild side, wrap the nib in tissue and shake gently like you want to bring the temperature back down on an old thermometer. Just make sure you don't slam it into any surface. Emy of Pen Venture demonstrates how to do this in one of his videos.

    You need to push down on the cap until you hear it snap in. I have the Year of the Rabbit pen and love the way it writes.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  24 дні тому

      Hmmm I pressed pretty hard and mine never snapped in place. I'll look inside the cap further to see if it should be snapping in place. It's a threaded cap so I'm curious if that band at the back of the pen is snapping into the threads? If so that's not an ideal thing

    How securely does this pen post? I have several Opus 88 Minis, and only one of them posts securely - the Endless Coffee Shop version. Most of them won't post at all.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  26 днів тому

      This is my first and only mini so sounds like you have more experience than I do. As I showed it does post, but can wiggle off depending on how you grip the pen. I wish it posted more securely so this didn't happen. For some it won't be an issue how they grip, but for others it will be a constant thing.

    I got the Opus 88 Baby Beluga, and the dimensions are the same as this pen. But the barrel is clear, with the ocean scene painted on it and the cap. Very cool, big capacity. It sometimes spits ink if I have to prime the pen, which dries or starves sometimes between writing sessions.

    with the opus 88 , after putting ink in turn pen nib down , unscrew. Ink stoper and move back and forth a short distance. Screw the stoper most of the way in , not all , than you are good to write . Indo it over a paper towel in case it pooches ink out which it will sometimes. , than you are good to go . Good pens .

    I have one but a different resin from an earlier version. A word of warning; do not retract the rod all the way back. I did this unconditionally and the rubber part on the end of the rod came off. You will lose the ability to seal the barrel from the feed.

  • @AudTalksPens

    I love Opus 88 pens and own 5 so far. I was tempted by the baby beluga from goldspot pens. It has to be one of the prettiest and cutest thing I have ever seen. Unfortunately I find the mini size too small to be comfortable to write with for any extended period of time, even when posted. I won't sell it because I love the design, but I wish they made a larger version of this exact design. I have the larger new demonstrator ocean blue whale design and I like that, but I thing the baby beluga is their best looking design. Opus 88 is one of my favourite brands, and the Opera model is my favourite of their models.
    Thank you for another great review!
