    You're the man. i struggled 2 hours to get it to unscrewed and try to put it back from the bottom. After seeing yours i removed the side and put it back in 10 mins.

    Great Vid! sir excellent! 100-100 I did this 5 days ago on my 2013 x5 35i x , no issues, just dropped the aluminum belly pan only and noticed to get access to the fill plug, i need to remove the hose tab ,which hold the power steering hoses in place attached to the chassis and use a bungy chord and pulled it out of the way of the plug.. jacked up the left front drivers wheel side and removed the wheel. removed 2 ,8mm screws and a T body clip part only, use a bungy chord and pulled the plastic out of the way to get access to the fill plug ( im lazy). then use a 14mm bit 3/8 socket bit with a 18 inch "wobble" extension. pulled the fill plug no issue. went underneath pulled out the drain plug. i caught the old fluid in a 1 quart plastic measuring container. i could see through it and 450 millmeters of old fluid came out . i used this same pump setup to refilled it with redline 75w-85. it almost took a full litre ( 670 mm ,with the vehicle dropped down on the jack to a level position) . installed 2 new fill/drain plugs and replace plastics and power steering bracket (10 mm bolt) and 16 mm belly pan bolts !! Excellent video sir ty for sharing

      @@x-coastie Thanks for the quick response. Any issue with not being level as suggested from what I read?

    Only bmw on all its wisdom puts a steering pipe in the middle of a fill hole

      @x-coastie  10 місяців тому +2

      Yep! Did you know there’s a bracket that has oil passages running through it that holds the alternator in place. You should see what’s involved if that ever leaks!!!

      @@x-coastienot looking fwd to that one... I tried the front diff today on a 2007 BMW X5 e70 , with the 6cyl 3 liter(n52).The power steering line set up is exactly the same as your 4.8 v8. The 3.5 and 5.0 aren't that bad. I loosen up the line holding bolts (2) to the chassis but still was in the way. So I ordered your recommended 14 mm Allen wobble head. I immensely appreciate your advice as I wouldn't thought of it myself.

    For the E70 (3.0), the cover below didn't need to come off. I just changed it last night even though I took it off.

      How much did you put in on the 3.0si? 600ml or to the fill hole level(about a 800ml)?

    It got harder after BMW deleted the drain plug from the front diffy in 2012. Also, there is a tech bulletin changing the fill amount to only 650ml.

    • @x-coastie
      @x-coastie  5 місяців тому

      There wasn’t a whole lot of fluid in it. 650ml sounds about right.
