Been really enjoying this series. It has been fun listening to Kathy and Kay reminisce on their memories of Dale especially in the early days. Especially enjoy when you do interviews with the older drivers and crew members. Love hearing how they got around the rules.

@gothard5 broke mine when i was like a year and a half or 2 years found out i had leukemia, then i was visiting family and fell and broke my Femur found out for a second time i had leukemia. Kinda glad i broke it tbh lol also dont feel bad i met Jeff Gordon in 03 because of it. My uncle used to always pick on me about being a Gordon fan and told me he wore pink panties, i told Jeff to tell Dale that I (an almost 6 year old) said he wore pink panties and he tried to explain to me that they were friends and i didnt wanna hear it lol

I can’t even imagine having to tighten up (or down) the shoulder harnesses very tight after having both your collar bones broken? The amount of stress and pain he must have gone through must have been immense!

It’s kind of weird… but your clavicle (collarbone) does more than any other part to give your shoulder its ‘shape’. With the shoulder blade, your upper arm, and collarbone - sort of triangulating the shape of the shoulder. I’ve broken both of mine. When you break a collarbone, your shirts will never fit exactly the same way again because the relationship between those three bones has changed. It’s kind of weird just how much that shape will have changed. After even the best surgical repairs… it’ll be different.

I signed myself out of hospital once oh OK nearly twice.
I had a build up of fluid on the heart, and that's painful I tell you.
I felt like a mushroom, no info coming my way, so l sulked and asked if I could leave.
And signed myself out and got a rocket from All my Dr's and specialists, as they wanted to drain the heart sac, to see what had caused the fluid build up.
The heart Dr, said it was due to the breakdown of the fluid in the joints, but scared the crap out of me 24hrs after leaving leaving hospital. Oops

my collarbone, AC joint, and clavicle were all separated from skateboarding, i didnt get surgery, and they fused themselves back together. DR told me in order to fix they would have to break my shoulder, and then therapy to learn how to use my right arm/shoulder again. the thought of purposely/surgically breaking my arm seemed so silly. well let me tell you this! Fast forward 9years or so, ITS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE. certain movements, have to sleep a certain way, cant play basketball., trying to put on a shirt, even holding the steering wheel a certain way. its a lot, and i could go on forever. not sure where im even going with this, just venting my situation with what JR said really

I once fell when I was about a year and a half, I have no idea how I fell all I know was that broke my collar bone and found out i had leukemia. Short bout and i won (duh lol). A second time i fell and broke my femur, well the hospital didnt believe that i could fall and break my femur bone. Long story short the hospital almost had my mom in handcuffs and CPS on the way before she was able to yell at them that i was a cancer surviver and to call Birmingham Children's Hospital, my doctor told them that it was in their best interests to fix my leg as well as they could and put my mom and i in an Ambulance and get us there as soon as possible or he'd be helping them find a new job. I dont think he was as nice about it though.

Mike. Dale several years back I blew a front tire on my Hayabusa motorcycle. I was going around a corner doing 42 in a 45 mile an hour speed zone. When I hit the ground it Hurt. But it really didn’t hurt nearly as bad as when I hit the guard rail post… 6x16
I hit it with the side of my chest. Everything inside of my chest basically blew up. I broke everything from my hips up this includes sternum 3 places. All of my ribs including one that poked 3 holes in my left lung. What I didn’t break was my spine and neck…..
    Collar bones were just explained
I got lucky not breaking my spine & neck…

I’ve had my left collar bone broken twice the first time was when I was born my grandmother told me and my mother and aunt confirmed it I got stuck when my mom was giving birth to me my shoulders were too big (7 lbs 8oz at birth) but they all said the doc had to push me back in a little bit and reach in and break my collarbone so for the first 6 or 8 weeks of my life I had my left shirt sleeves safety pinned to my clothes to make a sling out of my sleeve then 21 years later a few days after my 21st birthday I was hanging out with some friends of mine and we decided to play tackle football on a side street that was paved and we used parked cars as the boundary/out of bounds welp I got a pass thrown to me and my buddy caught me mid air as I came down with the ball and slammed me head and shoulder first on the hood of a car I legitimately thought I broke my neck well I got to the hospital and got X-rays done and found out my left collarbone was broken again they fixed it it didn’t heal right so they rebroke it after 8 weeks and put 3 screws in my Collarbone and if I move it a certain way now I can still feel it pop it’s fully healed (I’m now 38 btw lol it’s been almost 20years now holy cow) but certain movements still make it pop or click it’s not audible thankfully but if you put your hand on my shoulder you can definitely feel it😅
