I am so glad you gentlemen are talking about this issue. Our story as a healthy eating and living couple always purchasing our own insurance. At 32 my wife was diagnosed with Breast cancer the same day her insurance highly rate company went bankrupt. It took us 25 years to pay those bills off. Then I was bitten by a venous snake. That was 6k for an over night and that took another 5 years tot pay off. we had 4 years free off medical bills the my wife broke her knee cap last year now we are back in more debt for 11k and the hospital fucked her up by introducing two bacterial infections. The Doctor Chin ignored my concern about two of the reddish skin areas around one of the staples. to make it short two operation later fearing she we loose her leg we got no compensation from the kaiser Insurance med company. I just accidentally slit my wrist with chisel. I made a business delivery off the books for funds to enjoy life and eat then I just accidentally slit my wrist with chisel. it cost all of my sweet delivery pay 475.00 for 9 stitches. Flat broke and still in med debt this system we have such when one in is self employed. Nest time O cut myself ill fucking sowing myself up fro 10.00.
Outrageous cost and fees must stop.

I work for a major healthcare company and it sickens me what happens everyday. It’s unreal.. having to explain to a person, most times Medicare advantage members, that I have basically ZERO information on the approximate cost of their coinsurnaces in unnerving. First heard of Marty on the James Altucher show and was already subbed to Z, so seeing y’all come together is awesome. Keep fighting the good fight. I’m working on taking down the beast from the inside out. 💪🏼

I went for a Pet Scan. They wanted to charge me 3 grand for a co-payment. All I could do was laugh. Here I am in your hospital because I have cancer that has spread, I’m on disability and you think I can just walk in and write a check for 3 grand. I told her she was not going to get it. She didn’t stop my scan.😊

It’s nice to hear the doctors perspective on cost, because the public never hears this in the main stream. The system though seams really rotten.

Would love to hear Marty and ZDoggMD interview Keith Smith who runs a highly unusual surgery center in Oklahoma.. perhaps it's how the future of healthcare may look! He was recently on the EconTalk podcast.

Currently going bankrupt over husband having the nerve to have cancer and since I work we are 1,000 dollars over the poverty line so we qualify for no assistance or help. I know Drs don’t control this. It’s the big beautiful buildings with fountains in them that administration wants ☹️

You guys brought up some great points! But I felt bad for that horrible beating the dead horse took for the lame cookbook joke...lol
Maybe you meant it like this but if not another transparency aspect that should be included is how much gets paid out to each 3rd party involved. The hospital loves for the average person to believe that the surgeon walks away with the large lump sum following a surgery. If people knew that, for example, the Orthopedic Surgeon walks away with less then $1,000 after a TKR, they would wonder where the rest of the $49k they were charged was going. The public deserves to see an average breakdown including hospital/medical equipment/anesthesia/meds/surgeon/first assist and then compare those ratios to help in your ratings. Then include if these surgical charges for the surgeon, anesthesia, and any first assists are paid directly to them as contractors, or if they are in house staff, let it be known that those charges also go to the hospital as well. And then there is the possibility of 3rd party neuro-monitoring and things like this that might get denied by insurance. An average breakdown for common surgeries performed in the hospital would be helpful to as far as keeping down the shock value for people so they do not have an MI when the bill comes in the mail.
