@@DTB1995 i think he means that an old lady who needs help of one of those sticks to walk also wanted the thing Peter ended up buying, so he pretty much beat her to buying it

I like this version spiderman cause it meant he needed to focus to use his abilities instead of it being tech.
I liked the tech angle because it brings up Peters non Spidey super power.. his intellegence.
I like Tobey Maguire's depiction of spiderman. But the tech only makes it better/more sensible. It doesn't hurt to wear specialized shoes, some armour and hands-free cellphone.
Idk, the original Spider-man had a core trait of being a nerd, he built all his gadgets himself. It wasn't even like he was OP, nearly all his fights with villians originally could've been his last had he not had his wit. I like that one more, not that this version is bad.
He has super strenght, a durable body, and super perception. The only tech is the webs and eyes, which he needs to be able to focus.
If spider man web is tech, anyone can make it and everyone can be spider man, so that's bullshit.
That's why I prefer Tobey's spider man more because he's also my childhood, the only one spider man.
This scene is just one example of why Tobey Maguire made such a perfect Spiderman. He's got a mask on..the guy in the elevator can't see him, and yet he still can't make eye contact with him. Awkward with a capital A. 😂
I noticed that too. The subtle head tils and movements were so good. Kinda like he felt naked and awkward in gthe full body suit.
Imagine if the guy came in and he just made hardcore eye contact. Just like.. O-O

People always want to point out that this Spider-Man doesn't have to "emoting eye lenses" so we could "see Peter's emotion" when in reality Tobey gave us so much to dissect here with his portrayal. His voice and mannerisms as Spider-Man are already amazing to the point where we don't freaking need more CGI in his eyes we can already tell how's he feeling from the way he is speaking and moving
Not to mention it would be crazy to think that Peter would be able to hand craft a suit at home that would be able to have the eyes move and match his expressions.
Never thought of that VERY great point, until now.
yeah it works great just like the green isnt having a seizure when he spider senses and so on. based on comic but really a movie adaptation of it that uses movie tech
I agree. Even when his lenses look like he's angry, we still can tell when he's happy.

Mom remembered this scene back when she saw this in the cinema and if she hadn’t bought the Spiderman cds i wouldn’t be obsessed with marvel in the first place. This holds a special place in my childhood
I love the panic he has when he temporarily loses his abilities. It shows that he’s still human hell a college student at that: he’s one of the few heroes that show fear when his back is up against the wall and it makes it more relatable. Doesn’t matter how high and mighty you are when you’re human fear will still be there .
I felt this too in the Spiderman: Homecoming with Holland in the scene where Vulture collapses the building on Pete and he genuinely feels like he isn't gonna make it thru the event. When a hero feels fear, it just makes it all seem more real.
Another big reason why Spider-Man wears a mask is to hide his fear from his enemies.

I dont hate MCU Spidey at all, he is my 2nd fav spidey after Tobey. Its just i feel that Tom should build his gadgets more. He shouldnt just 3d print a suit like in FFH he should find his own equipment, so like 75% is his intellect and design and only 25% of Stark tech. That is the only reason Tom is 2nd and not 1st.
I agree but Tasm web-swing is actually pretty lit
Just the visual image of Spider-Man using the elevator along with another person is bizarrely genius.
The MCU will never top this type of spectacular ridiculousness
This is such a Gough and Millar writing trademark.
It's so pedestrian and normal, but everything around it is not. The clash of those two concepts is amazing. They did try it with the MCU several times but it's not the same..
What about the scene in no way home where the villains and spider-man are in an elevator?
Tobey Maguire is the best Spider-man. He still can play in another Spider-man movie... Spider-Man Returns! 😎 🎞️

For some reason, no one has mentioned this recently (as far as I can see) in the comments so I'll say it - Hal Sparks also played Michael Novatne in a Canadian tv show called Queer As Folk which was a huge hit at the time of this film. The character he played on that show was a timid gay man and comic book geek. He grows up crushing on superheroes for their tight costumes and bodies and eventually owns a comic book store. Part of me thinks this cameo is a nod to that series as well although Ramai has neither confirmed or denied it. For fans of that show, it's like seeing that character and what he would do if he met Spiderman.
I was wondering why this but apparently it's just some improvised random scene because they originally planned on the extended cut version of this scene for the elevator where it's revealed he's a PR intern or something, has ideas for Spiderman. It has angle changes and alot more focused dialog, so it was probably due to pacing reasons since they realized this was during an action setpiece that's dramatically important to Peter.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing, knowing he was playing Michael Novotny at the same time. Ps. QAF is Canadian and American
This is so painfully awkward it's hilarious 😂
Raimi's Spiderman films absolutely NAILED situational comedy. It's why the scenes come off as natural and genuinely funny as opposed to the poor, cheesy jokes the MCU literally force-feeds into its films every 5 minutes
