Fun Louis Armstrong fact: one time he was playing in Texas, and this white law student named Charles Black came to the show just to meet girls, he doesn't even know who Louis Armstrong is. But once Armstrong started playing, he was like "Uhhhhh, I think everything I've ever been taught about black people is a lie, because this man is a true genius". So once he was an actual lawyer, he went to the NAACP and was like "hey can I help with anything?" And they were like "Yeah, we're working on this school segregation case." And that's how Louis Armstrong contributed to the outcome of thr Brown v. Board of Education decision!
Not quite, good brother -- Thurgood Marshall was the litigator who successfully argued against segregation at the supreme court after having fought a long and bitter fight five years earlier that made equal pay for white and black teachers mandatory. The premise of his argument against segregation in the school system at the time was that it was unconstitutional to pay white teachers more than black teachers because black teachers taught in segregated schools. He prayed the court to dismantle segregation of schools in order to ensure equal pay which they did. The dude you spoke about might have been on the legal team, but we don't celebrate him come black history month because we don't know him.
@@ifeanyinwaneri2840 Oh no, I didn't mean to suggest Charles Black was in charge of the Brown v. Board case, but he was one of the dozens of lawyers who helped put the case(s) together.

It's a shame we didn't get to see Sam Cooke's career grow and flourish as it surely would have. But to be fair to Mrs. Franklin (the woman who shot him)...he apparently broke down her office door in a drunk rage looking for Elisa, and then according to Franklin he violently grabbed her. Leading to a grappling match until she eventually shot him in self-defense. This altercation was corroborated by the motel owner who overheard the chaos on the phone and called the police... Which makes A LOT more sense than this portrayal of him just walking up to her half-dressed and getting shot. And Elisa claims that she was taken to motel against her will...which makes her running off while he's in the bathroom make a lot more sense, she said she took his clothes by mistake when she was hastily grabbing her own. But her story was considered questionable since she was later arrested as a prostitute. So who knows...maybe she made that up. But we know how poorly prostitutes are treated both by their patrons and in the eyes of the law. So I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Sam Cooke was a great singer, doesn't mean he was a great man.. Fans and family are always going to deny any wrongdoing on behalf of the deceased...doesn't mean they're right. And look, I mean it's fair to be skeptical about the killing of black men given all the lies we have seen come to light. But in this particular case, I really don't think you should just gloss over the stories of these women who very well could have been victims of serious violence from Cooke. Both vulnerable themselves, an older black lady and a young Asian sex worker. I thought this telling was pretty sexist given the facts we do know and the ones we don't. The fact that the shooting occurred in the manager's office with the door broken down (NOT in the lobby) is enough for me to believe Bertha Franklin's account.
I see what you're saying.... but some of Elisa's accounts were questionable to say the least.... the taken against her will bit especially,... I guess unfortunately we'll never know
It sounds like you're taking everything the media says for face value which is the furthest thing from the truth. If you read Etta James' bio she reveals the truth about what really happened.
Blacks invented Rock 'n' Roll, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Breakdancing, and most of the delicious dances in Latin America and South Africa. And there's evidence of black musicians doing grunge, before it was a music word.
