The videos from Madame X should have been nominated every where but... ageism is alive and well! Shame not just for her, but also the young directors working with her.
I said it before and I will say it again, Madame X is pure art! Sad they ignored her almost completely, while she is creating a masterpiece. Not even one nomination, can you believe it? Ah well...F*** it!
Madame X is the kind of album that can, at first listen, throw you off because she's being very experimental. But it's a very coherent album when you listen to the whole thing. Contrary to what others may say I think it's actually one of her best work, even though in my opinion she hasn't really put out a single bad album ever and they can hardly be compared to one another because it's always a different sound, which is what keeps it interesting for us and for her. It's definitely not one of those dance pop kind of albums, it has more depth to it. So while the songs may at first surprise people, for example the whole piano section in Dark Ballet, later on when you listen to it doesn't jump out like it does when you first hear it. In the context of the entire album, it's very much a part of the experience.
Batuka (which is another video release from this album) has a deep meaning too, and Crave is a brilliant pop ballad. I think the album is a masterpiece and should have gotten way more attention and success than it did, even if it did come out to favorable reviews. Unfortunately when it comes to Madonna these days, or for quite a while now, ageism is alive and well so her age is a factor in whether her music succeeds on the charts or not, simply because they won't play her on radio radio anymore. It's a shame in many ways, because the music she puts out is good and the messages even more so. She is a true artist and an icon. I often feel she doesn't get the respect she deserves. Because she's been kind of thrown under the bus in some degree, deemed to be too old to have a relevant voice, people are forgetting just how instrumental she has been, her importance in the entertainment industry, plus of course the fact that she has been there all along, fighting for every injustice.
Frankly I can't wait to slap everyone who now puts her down and when she is gone, then they will tweet how iconic she was. No, that is not the way. She is the only one left of the great superstars of the 80s. So... do it now. Show her now. Respect her now.
MadameX is the fruit of her long career in music. She is strictly artistic in this album.
This goddamn video makes me cry like a little girl everytime I watch it. It's a masterpiece and proof of how far ahead this incredible artist is in her vision and purpose with what she creates and puts out there. Unique and incomparable and inspiring. Her creativity is out of this world and beyond compare. Who does this after a career of almost 40 years?!? Gives me chills. It's a crime that important art like this isn't given its due. Shame on all of them. Their fucking loss. J

I think it is a Masterpiece. If you watch her perform this at the Met Gala her vocals are live in that performance and its so good.
I don't care what anyone says; #MadameX is a work of art, a masterpiece. There is no bad Madonna album to begin with. I would name it her most avant-garde album, as she likes to experience with different sounds on each project. She solidified her style of music, yet still finds new ways to project. Her last album was so well done, with the exceptional visuals . From costumes to videos to promo performances to theater performance; everything was so fantastically perfected. I think the DVD is gonna finally show us the real masterpiece , the way she created this project. This project was majorly overlooked, and her health issues didn't help either. Madonna is a living legend who is still at the top of her creativity. I look forward to her each project , still after three decades, and appreciate these times that I get to experience her art as it exists ..

When I first heard 'Dark Ballet' I, too, didn't know if I could hear it played over and over again, but I really like it now as it comes up on the CD (and listen to it often). In form and structure, the song is a rhapsody, with different sections and elements all rolled into one lengthy song. (I would argue that 'God Control' is in that same form too.) The video is intense and recalls the political nature of the videos "Like a Prayer" and "American Life." Her choice of using the "Nutcracker Suite" is interesting in that it represents a dream sequence of sorts and, as you pointed out in Dark Ballet, at a certain point in the narrative we are in the protagonist's head, as it were. The contrast between the dreamy Nutcracker song and the cruel reality of the persecution of heretics (i.e. transgender and LGBTQ, today) is stark and disturbing. Madonna does want us to "wake up" from our childish dreams to these cruel realities and fight for what is right. In any case, I enjoyed your reaction. Thx!

The videos from this album are all deep and visually stunning. The lead single, Medellin, featuring Maluma, is the most commercial song on the album. And the hook is super catchy. This is her most experimental album. She said she didn't have anything to prove on the charts. Everything on the radio sounds the same. She wanted to do something different
My favorite song from Madame X, I continue to play it over and over. But yeah, pretty much the reaction I expected.

Mykki Blanco (pronounced Mickey) is a well known openly queer rapper who is playing Joan of Arc. Definitely check out his music if you have a chance. Mark my words a decade from now or maybe 20 years from now people will look at Madame X as an underrated masterpiece like American Life.

Music industry and people in general, specially those with smoke in their skull, do not appreciate the wisdom on these kind of pieces of music; and they tend to follow the stream instead of think a little deeper. Also aging is a real act of discrimination these days. Specifically against her, who's only fault is to be relevant in the current culture.
Same happened to the EROTICA album and it took 25 years to them to recognize it is THE ALBUM.
Same is going to happen to MX and they'll come kneeling to give the reward to such a piece of musical art!

Very different & artistic Album. It really threw me off on many songs. As others have mentioned, it's her expressing her artistic & views in general. Why she is my #1 artist of all time way before this album. I appreciate her work here. Doing it for the love of the music. Not just a money grab. She's proved herself so many years prior, but I know some artists who actually love what they do will put out work very different from what is expected of them. This album does have some regular, typical songs on it. Not my favorite album by any means, but admire her for doing what she loves!

It's a political statement. Not a "radio" track.
Dark Ballet isn’t really a song you add to a play list but it is a masterpiece in context to the entire Madame X album. Unfortunately nobody under 30 have the attention span to listen to albums in their entirety anymore which is a shame as that is where the artistic value often lies.. The album version is slightly shorter as it doesn’t have all the pauses and stops or the Our Father prayer.

I absolutely worship Madonna but this song is just a mess in my opinion. The video is excellent though. I wish she was in it more.
I hated this album so fucking much... Even enjoyed Hard Candy more.
It's definitely her most experimental album and not mainstream at all so I understand people not clicking with it. I love most of it but at the same time it's my least listened to Madonna album. It's not easily digestible like most of her albums.
@@JB-pl1iu i get that. But it doesn't sound experimental to me, it sounds just...bad. Even the production sounds so poor amd luckluster... I listen to a lot alternative stuff and this is not it. Anyway, that's just my opinion, and I understand she has nothing to prove at this point after her phenomenal career.
