The raspy voice was because this was her final show and he voice really took a lot of strain. It was one of the highlights in her Truth or Dare documentary where it showed she had to cancel shows at one point in the tour and not talk at all.
I had the pleasure of seeing this concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills back in 1990! It was actually my first time on a plane and it changed my life! I was 18 at the time and I was so happy to see her in concert!
So glad you enjoyed it! It's her third concert and a landmark at that because of the theatrical staging, non-stop dancing, and controversial Like a Virgin number! This is the concert where Madonna became fully MADONNA, imv, the stage goddess of song and dance. She set the standard for other concert performers, especially female performers. Wish I had seen it live. Thank you, Dereck for a great reaction!
I could watch that final 'Keep it Together' routine over and over again (as I already have) and still be mesmerised by it. It's so well put together and I think shows the human side of Madonna. She's really got it here. Feels like she's at the top of her game at this point.
One of her best tour ever. At the time, it was insane, none other female singer dared such a tour with background changing... And changes of clothes (apart Mylène)... Not even Kylie Minogue who copies her that same year. I remember being sat beside the stage, on the left and I could see the columns raised UP while she was singing "like a Virgin"! Impressive
I absolutely adore the final number. The costumes and choreography along with the British accents are all a take on “A Clockwork Orange”- an extremely controversial Kubrick masterpiece. She even references the “old in out, in out” taken directly from the film. Only Madonna. Brilliant.
She really didn't like performing Material Girl at this point. And was certainly tired of everyone still calling her that. The corny accent was, imo, just kind of her way of giving this song The Finger. Many people overlooked the ironic intent of the original song and here she's saying "I don't take it seriously, why should you?" She took a similar approach in the Who's That Girl tour couple years before this.
This show changed shows for everyone from this point on! She has changed my life and been a ray of light in darkness for me. She is not afraid of anything and takes on everything in the name of art.
The dancer you like is Gabriel. He got together with Slam (Dick Tracy guy/Express Yourself main dancer) during the tour. Their kiss in Truth or Dare was a huge deal at the time because of the lack of gay representation back in the day.
Fun fact: Geri Halliwell from the Spice Girls wore a Madonna inspired outfit for the group’s Spiceworld Tour 1998, during their “Stop” performance, Madonna’s outfit on “Holiday”.
So excited to see your part too and of course the famous finale show which was broadcast on HBO I remember when it was on TV and also my dad made me an audio cassette copy and I played it all the time! I was so inspired by the choreography, the way the music sounded, and her outfits everything! So wish I could have gone to see it but they filled it so well so we could enjoy it too. Glad you really loved it!
Such an unique show!!! I remember when they showed the one from Barcelona on tv in Brazil and I recorded it on VHS and I still have it. Then came Truth or Dare in bed with Madonna documentary, which just turned Madonna on the queen of pop. If you have the chance watch the documentary. You’ll love it!! Ps: The dancer who you liked is called Gabriel and unfortunately he is not with us anymore.
You never dissapoint with your reactions. This one was truly so fun to watch, because you were truly a first-timer seeing this performance. 👏👏 This concert was everything!😊
I, regards from Peru.I am so glad that you enjoyed all the BLONDAMBITION...one of my favorite..qhe is the Queen forever!!... SHE TAUGH ME TO BE STRONGER..to be reinvented..to be better in time..to be not a second choice.. alwys the firt choice... thanks Madonna... te amo churra bella!! Diva... now i am followin you... great part 1 and 2... intothegroove... holiday... keeptogether and all... GRACIAS AMIGO TE AMO A TI Y TU CANAL. CARLOS HERRERA.
Madonna's brother, Christopher, was the creative director of this show and Girlie Show. Please react to the tour documentary "Truth or Dare". You will see behind the scenes footage and get to know the dancers, Donna and Niki.
3 down and 8 to go. I would do sticky and sweet next. You'll be amazed. I was at the Dodger Stadium for that one with Britney, JLO and Justin. Glad you singled out Gabriel as your 👁️ 🍭 on this one. He was a glamorous Angel.
Her voice here was very different as this was already the last tour performance (so this is Madonna voice 3 months later after 50 shows). Her New Jersey was much early on the tour. She probably put an extra effort in Nice as it was being filmed for a commercial Laserdisc (this concert shoot won a Grammy for best longform music video in 1992 - It was Madonna first grammy winning ever). "Hanky Pankky" was the single released after "Vogue" and peaked #02 in UK and #10 in US. Concerning Madonna and MJ tours - he was touring a lot more time doing 123 concerts with his '87/'88 tour while Madonna did only 57 shows with this tour (she gets tired from repeating the songs and dance routines). Both concert tours had similar individual grossing (in 2020 money $2.3 million for each MJ show and $2.2 million for each Madonna show).
She hated singing Material Girl so she wanted to be playful and be silly. It's funny and silly and it is her NY accent from Who's that Girl is what she's doing! 😉
You should watch and react to Truth or Dare. Her documentary of her life during this time. Groundbreaking and what all other musicians hope to capture when they do their own.
During the Material Girl set, she was mocking the song, because everyone associated her as the Material Girl. She stated how much she disliked that song.
Omg. Love your reaction to the tour. And mixing up the USA and the European leg of the tour in your review. She had bad throat problems and had to cancel shows in the USA. And I guess her rasp is some of that coming through. It certainly Makes for a better delivery. Amazing 🤩
This was the final show of a 5 month tour so she was vocally spent but this is also the most fun show! They go all out! This was on HBO was the first concert they ever aired live, back then HBO was super expensive premium cable. The ratings were higher than anything they showed that year.
Hi, Derek! If you have free time search and watch The Blond Ambition Tour Live from Yokohama, Japan. I watched it non-stop last summer and I think it's the best performance from all other cities! Especially Keep It Together!
This concert tour is what every single pop star on this planet, male and female, has been using as the role model for their concerts. She is, in fact, the top grossing tour solo artist in music history!! No one can top Madonna in terms of live shows, no one, that's why she's the Queen of Pop, Her Majesty!!
Her voice was really damaged by the end of this tour. That’s why it’s a bit raspy and deep. Matter of fact the show I was suppose to see was cancelled cuz vocal issues. Luckily was able to secure tix to another night. To this day… never seen anything like it
Material girl was supposed to be playing the "rich white girl" image which madonna gets compared to... so she talked amd sang in this "rich bratty" voice. It was very funny to me
You should look up the documentary of the tour : Truth or Dare. It was a highlight. The documentary also brought a big change in the cinema world and reality documentary.
This is from the end of the tour vs the part one you reacted to, which was from the us leg which was the start of the tour. That’s why her voice is so raspy
Hello Dereck,i liked Madonna's show very much.But i found the 1 part a bit better.Probably i thought that part 1 and part 2 are similar.But this is Madonna,always good for a surprice!Dereck your beard.Looks too good.And your Award got the right place.Yo're worth it!!🎉📣😃😃😃💝🐬🐬🐬
You really REALLY need to check out "Truth or Dare", the behind the scenes documentary film about this tour. It is really amazing, I remember seeing it at the movie theater when it came out. An unforgettable look at what went on behind the scenes. At that time it was highest-grossing documentary of all time. Definitely a must see.
Material Girl is essentially her poking fun of the entire song and the reputation it gave her. So she isn't even trying to sing it properly, just making fun of it in the name of entertainment. :)
At the moment (1990) Madonna was using her "Jersey Accent" you coud see that all trough Truth or Dare Documentary as well and this Material Girl performance at the blond Ambition Tour ..it's like her "Fukc u" atttiude or her "shield" to be perceived as tough.
My dear friend who has 12golds and 2 platinums told me that they would record a live version of the song and play it over the live performance so it wasn’t the studio sound but a live sound!
She didn’t say part 2. She said “Je vous aime France partout” which means “France, I love you all” or literally I think it would be “I love you France, everyone”. 🙂
I'm a big Madonna fan but the reason why there's so much rasp in her voice is because she sings from her throat and she hasn't been trained to sing from her diaphragm until she recorded the Evita when she got vocal training/coaching.
Hey from PR! Love how you get into your reactions especially Barbra Streisand songs. "Make It Like A Memory" is a great dramatic song from the 1980 Guilty Album, hope you react to it. 👍
Next in the list full Ray of light album reaction and then The Drowned World Tour. That tour is basically songs from Ray of Light and Music that you already reacted to the full album. Great as always 🍌♥️
I can see why they had her lip synch on Vogue so she could get her breath and rest her voice for the last 2. This is an exhausting show to do for months.
the first part you watched was from the beginning of the tour with the ponytail, this here with the short curly hair was the end of the tour, this part was actually the very last show...this aired on HBO August 5, 1990..she had done over 50 shows.. that was why her voice was hoarse
Madonna Nicki and Donna = one of the best girl groups ever!!
This concert was turning point in pop shows all the concept has changed after that. Madonna is a true visionary
You are so right. She turned concerts into "shows".The whole segment thing was genius.
The raspy voice was because this was her final show and he voice really took a lot of strain. It was one of the highlights in her Truth or Dare documentary where it showed she had to cancel shows at one point in the tour and not talk at all.
“Mr. Eye Candy” during Into The Groove is the late Gabriel Trupin RIP
Jose, Luis and Kevin were the Mermen
I had the pleasure of seeing this concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills back in 1990! It was actually my first time on a plane and it changed my life! I was 18 at the time and I was so happy to see her in concert!
I was at that same concert. Imo, it was the best show. She was on fire 🔥.
Keep It Together is the most amazing ending to a concert
You really need to react to the iconic documentary Truth of Dare
One of her best tour ever.
At the time, it was insane, none other female singer dared such a tour with background changing... And changes of clothes (apart Mylène)... Not even Kylie Minogue who copies her that same year.
I remember being sat beside the stage, on the left and I could see the columns raised UP while she was singing "like a Virgin"! Impressive
30 years later still my favourite version of Into The Groove.
I absolutely adore the final number. The costumes and choreography along with the British accents are all a take on “A Clockwork Orange”- an extremely controversial Kubrick masterpiece. She even references the “old in out, in out” taken directly from the film. Only Madonna. Brilliant.

Many people overlooked the ironic intent of the original song and here she's saying "I don't take it seriously, why should you?" She took a similar approach in the Who's That Girl tour couple years before this.
I think she get inspired by SNL too (she made a similar character later in Coffee Talk as Liz Rosenberg)
This show changed shows for everyone from this point on! She has changed my life and been a ray of light in darkness for me. She is not afraid of anything and takes on everything in the name of art.
Been to every tour performed at Wembley, all unmissable and Madonna knows how to put a show on.
ho visto questo concerto 1000 volte erano anni che n on lo vedevo ed e' ancora piu' bello di prima da rivedere il potere di Madonna
You would probably really enjoy her movie/Rockumentary of this tour, "Truth or Dare". You learn a whole lot about her personality.
She's singing live to Vogue with a loud backing track.....
Definitely one of my favourite tours ever of hers, thank you for doing the two part reaction to this one, thoroughly enjoyed it!
The dancer you like is Gabriel. He got together with Slam (Dick Tracy guy/Express Yourself main dancer) during the tour. Their kiss in Truth or Dare was a huge deal at the time because of the lack of gay representation back in the day.
RIP Gabriel
I'm Breathless soundtrack Madonna Ciccone best work vocally
AMAZING tour de la Queeeennn🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Fun fact: Geri Halliwell from the Spice Girls wore a Madonna inspired outfit for the group’s Spiceworld Tour 1998, during their “Stop” performance, Madonna’s outfit on “Holiday”.
Madonna is the talent, the director, the executive producer, and everything in between.
I give Madonna so much credit for managing it all
Great reaction to this tour! I will give a suggestion for another next reaction maybe: the "Ciao Italia tour" where her performances are amazing!
10:55 Niki Harris background vocals are amazing!!!
Great memories of one of my favorite concerts. The crowd was wild and Mo was at the top of her game.
Legendary. Mi Reina.
That polka-dot outfit is one of her most iconic and one of my favs that she has ever worn. It fits her body so perfect!
The inteire tour is so good and amazing!!!! Next would be Re-Invention tour or Sticky & Sweet tour.
One of my favorite performance of Holiday!
Glad you really loved it!
she is god😍
Such an unique show!!! I remember when they showed the one from Barcelona on tv in Brazil and I recorded it on VHS and I still have it. Then came Truth or Dare in bed with Madonna documentary, which just turned Madonna on the queen of pop. If you have the chance watch the documentary. You’ll love it!!
Ps: The dancer who you liked is called Gabriel and unfortunately he is not with us anymore.
I also recorded the Barcelona one on VHS when it was shown i Norway. A wonder I did not wear the tape out. Still got it :D
A Blond Ambition Tour mostra porque a Madonna é a MAIOR ARTISTA de todos os tempos!!!
You never dissapoint with your reactions. This one was truly so fun to watch, because you were truly a first-timer seeing this performance. 👏👏 This concert was everything!😊
Was up til 3:30 in the morning watching these videos. So fun thank you!
Legendary beyond words
Your Cherish reaction is so damn adorable!
Now I'm Following You sounds exactly as it is on the Dick Tracy soundtrack. I played this over and over, when I was a kid.
That was the last blond ambition show. That's why everybody came into the stage to say goodbye for her in the end
Thank you for using this show! I've never seen that last bit where ALL the crew come out, it was awesome thanks D!
Thank you for the amazing content!
It would be great if you react to one of her sweatiest tours of all time. The Sticky & Sweet Tour is fire 🔥
Madonna's brother, Christopher, was the creative director of this show and Girlie Show. Please react to the tour documentary "Truth or Dare". You will see behind the scenes footage and get to know the dancers, Donna and Niki.
I have an original blonde ambition tour jacket
3 down and 8 to go. I would do sticky and sweet next. You'll be amazed. I was at the Dodger Stadium for that one with Britney, JLO and Justin. Glad you singled out Gabriel as your 👁️ 🍭 on this one. He was a glamorous Angel.

I conic. The pop concert blueprint.
For me the eye candy is Kevin :)
She hated singing Material Girl so she wanted to be playful and be silly. It's funny and silly and it is her NY accent from Who's that Girl is what she's doing! 😉
Loved watching you react to this beautiful
You should watch and react to Truth or Dare. Her documentary of her life during this time. Groundbreaking and what all other musicians hope to capture when they do their own.
in the Material girl part it sounds like she is doing it as her character in Who's That Girl Nikki Fynn and having fun with it
No matter how big solo female artist are today, they’ll never be as big as Madonna was in the 90’s
She was born to Entertain
Even if you don’t do a video of Truth or Dare you need to watch it. An amazing film to go with this concert.
During the Material Girl set, she was mocking the song, because everyone associated her as the Material Girl. She stated how much she disliked that song.
loved your reaction to lets dance and get into the grove
I can't believe you've never heard Keep It Together!
Omg. Love your reaction to the tour. And mixing up the USA and the European leg of the tour in your review. She had bad throat problems and had to cancel shows in the USA. And I guess her rasp is some of that coming through. It certainly
Makes for a better delivery.
Amazing 🤩
10:53 "...looks like him" 10:59 "I don't think it's him" LOL!!!!
You MUST watch Truth or Dare, thats the behind the scenes documentary of this tour. Its one of the greatest and most acclaimed music docs ever..
This was the final show of a 5 month tour so she was vocally spent but this is also the most fun show! They go all out! This was on HBO was the first concert they ever aired live, back then HBO was super expensive premium cable. The ratings were higher than anything they showed that year.

Keep toghether i love you Forever and ever
Producer/set designer: what props do u want on stage?
M: yes!
Super bowl 2012 is a must
Her voice was really damaged by the end of this tour. That’s why it’s a bit raspy and deep. Matter of fact the show I was suppose to see was cancelled cuz vocal issues. Luckily was able to secure tix to another night. To this day… never seen anything like it
you should listen to the album I'm Breathless...she did several tracks from the album on this tour...this tour changed concerts forever

This is from the end of the tour vs the part one you reacted to, which was from the us leg which was the start of the tour. That’s why her voice is so raspy
Material Girl is done for comedy, the ladies in the hair salon gossiping. She also hates the song so changes it often

Material Girl is essentially her poking fun of the entire song and the reputation it gave her. So she isn't even trying to sing it properly, just making fun of it in the name of entertainment. :)
I was coming out of the closet in 1989-90. This was my first Madonna concert. I left knowing that, yup, I am gay as the day is long. 🤣😂
They don't make performers like this any more!!
She didn’t say part 2. She said “Je vous aime France partout” which means “France, I love you all” or literally I think it would be “I love you France, everyone”. 🙂
That was Marlene Dietrich!!!!!
👊💙👍😘
I'm a big Madonna fan but the reason why there's so much rasp in her voice is because she sings from her throat and she hasn't been trained to sing from her diaphragm until she recorded the Evita when she got vocal training/coaching.

Some people hate how she sang Material Girl here
Next in the list full Ray of light album reaction and then The Drowned World Tour. That tour is basically songs from Ray of Light and Music that you already reacted to the full album. Great as always 🍌♥️
Now let's wait for your reaction to the girlie show.
He already did
I absolutely hated that one 🤷🏻♀️
@@fabienneclavier5984 omg no way! Girlie show was so awesome! Exactly what did you hate about it?
Her voice was raspy she end up with laryngitis thruout this tour but that deep register is her gold
Just before the last one "Je vous embrasse partout !!" means, "I kiss you everywhere !!"
Not ''... Part two..'' . 😘
You sing very well btw
I can see why they had her lip synch on Vogue so she could get her breath and rest her voice for the last 2. This is an exhausting show to do for months.
I think the raspy voice here is more to do with her voice was shot after months on tour.
Keep It Together is a great song ❤️ so sad she didn't sing it never again 😞
💃💃💃
Oh ! Hi ! Dereck, do you think that one day you will do an entire Mylène Farmer live? I recommend the one from 2009 or 2019! thank you, and I hope🥺😉
the first part you watched was from the beginning of the tour with the ponytail, this here with the short curly hair was the end of the tour, this part was actually the very last show...this aired on HBO August 5, 1990..she had done over 50 shows.. that was why her voice was hoarse
