How to Install a Red Dot on Springfield XD

- The easiest and most affordable way to put a red dot sight on your pistol is by using an Outer Impact Red Dot Mounting plate. This mounting plate allows you to mount a wide variety of optics onto your pistol without needing extra parts. Here I show you the steps to mount your red dot without milling, without drilling and without cutting into your slide. The pistol in this video is an XD Mod.2 but this will work with any Springfield Armory XD series pistol.

Great video. I’ve mounted two this way (G26 & G19) using the D1 mounting plate for Glocks. Co-witness sights are NOT a requirement esp. if you also mount a Laser/Lamp and your sight zeros can always be checked by simple comparing them. Optics are great, quick acquisitions regardless of lighting which always affect mounted iron sights. The slight difference in eye position is quickly learned in practice just as it was learning your old iron sights. The height of the mount does not interfere with carry but a holster modification may be needed. Proper loctite Thread Locker is mandatory and do not rely on those manufacture pre-loctited screws, apply yours. The batteries, for optics, last as much as 40-60K hours. NO NEED OR REQUIREMENT TO MILL SLIDES OR CO-WITNESS SIGHTS. This is NOT cutting corners, but practical. If you insist on a milled slide, then trade for it move up to a MOS slide or pre-cut manufacturer cut slide.

I removed rear sight from my HS xdm9 5.25 whail still in bed after postman delivered the package with Mini Reflex Red Dot.
But after removing figure out that no stock red dot carier or picatily will go on the pistol with out some home precise labor. 🤪😅💪

This is my edc and I hardly notice it. I got a custom appendix rig from a company that sadly went out of business during COVID. If you want to conceal carry this I recommend searching for a company that makes a holster with an extra mag so you’re better prepared and it distributed the weight better.

The only reason why the end of your loctite dries up is because you touched metal with it. You can leave a bottle of loctite open on the shelf for years and it won't dry up.
Also, lack of oxygen. Loctite needs lack of oxygen to set up. It will never set up with oxygen, therefore the bottles that Loctite and Anaerobic sealer come in are designed to breathe. The bottle/tube costs more than the liquid itself.
I have the exact same pistol and am looking for something to help old eyes. Ended up going with the Holosun 507k x2 using a DPP adapter plate specific to the XD and this optic - both from Amazon. Getting the factory sight out was a pain, but the plate fits nice. Sighted in with a bore sighted; now just need range time.

The plate itself is great. It hasn’t come loose, still has the same right tolerances as when I installed it and is just as durable. I would highly recommend using the @outerimpact adapter plate. It’s definitely worth the money.

Also a good tip for the sights is to just buy a $30 sight vice from Amazon. Also put some grease in there if you ever put the sights back in and they’ll slide right out. Also it’s good rust prevention. I’m baffled that the factory doesn’t do this with all guns and anything in the dovetail.
What part of the gun looks goofy? I'm just curious. Is the red dot mechanism itself too tall or the mount?

The XD Mod.2 isn’t available anymore and when I got it there was not a milled option. It’s possible at one point it had a milled slide but it wasn’t like that when I got mine. And thanks! I appreciate the feedback

I’m not familiar with all the California gun laws but in my mind it’s not modifying. As far as I’m aware, optics are allowed in California and this is just a mounting plate

Exactly. Dv8 tactical makes a milled slide for xd’s but they’re like $500 which is more than I spent on the gun.

It’s a thread locker; it keeps your screws from coming undone. The brand I used is permatex but loctite is a very good brand as well

Yes because it uses the same footprint as a regular optic for any semi auto behind the ejection port
is the height over bore an issue when zeroing red dot?
Depends at what range you are zeroing at. At 10+ yards out it’s fine but anything closer and you’re gonna have issues with the height over bore for sure

Are you able to zero the red dot without a hold over? What distance?
My XDS is hitting low.
Keep in mind the optic plate makes your dot sit about 3/4” over where your standard sights would be so you’ll naturally angle the gun downwards to compensate. Zero at 20’-30’ and raise your dot a couple clicks and you shouldn’t have an issue

Yes, there’s lots of different adapters for different types guns listed on the outer impact site.
Is there any chance the size gets nudged off-center since it's only secured by friction?
I haven’t had that be an issue but anything is possible. That’s why, when sanding the mount, I sanded it little by little so it would still be snug

I will say that for only $70 more than the 407c, the 507c is worth taking the time and saving the money for. However, if you want to save some money and get the 407c, it’s the same to install. It uses the trijicon rmr footprint which is very common and you could use the same optic plate I used in this video

i want to do this on my xds9 but i believe that the chamber indicator on the xds is different than in the xd or mod2. has anyone tried to install a red dot on a xds9?

No laser on mine, although they do have options with lasers and IR also. This is the Streamlight TLR-7A and I absolutely love it. I did an unboxing review on it if you want to check out that video

I do however, due to covid, the company I used had to shut down. It took me hours to find that company but there are other companies online that make custom holsters that could work
Thinking about putting a red dot on my Springfield XDM 40. For a long time my only options were a custom slide, which isn't cheap, Something big and gawky and clownish looking, or a plate that screws down on the slide and leaves marks on the slide. Can you tell me what marks if any this leaves on the slide once you remove it?
I haven’t taken it off since I installed it. The only markings you may get on the slide are from the screws that mount the optic to the plate

Yes, but I’ve talked with outer impact and I believe they resolved the issue with the longer screws. I would just check the length before you mount them so you know if you’ll need to file them or not

For sure it’s easier with a sight pusher but I know a lot of people who don’t want to buy a sight pusher if they’re only doing something like this once.

Why keep the front site?
The optic sits high enough you don’t even see the front sight. So taking it off or leaving it on doesn’t really make a difference
What part number is the red dot? And are you happy with it on your gun?
This is the red hs507c-x2. Personally, I love it on my gun. I don’t use the crosshairs, just the dot, but they just came out with a new version that has a chevron and a larger circle which I kinda of want to exchange it for
I got the vortex venom and I got the springfield xd9. Would this work for those 2 to be mounted?
@outerimpact has multiple options for different guns/optics. You’ll have to check their website for the plate specific to your gun but I’m sure they have something.

Jim, I’ve been looking a lot into having one installed on my sub compact and if I’m not mistaken I believe it does mound onto the xd9. They have made it compatible with all Springfield models except for the OPS and the outer impact plate accepts the venom, razor and viper.
Isn’t there a way to keep the iron sights ?
There are other optic plates which have integrated irons however this isn’t one of them. Personally I think those with backup irons are too bulky but there are options out there if that’s what you’re looking for
The best way to add a red dot & keep your irons is too have your slide milled. Costly but, one Heck of an upgrade to your XD!

It’s very difficult to mill Springfield slides because there are parts there most gunsmiths won’t touch them. I was able to zero after installing it quite easily and it’s very accurate.

I just got my ADE advanced optic in the mail today after waiting through two delays being sent the wrong one the first time and they sent me the wrong goddamn one again. I swear these people are clowns The amount doesn't fit and the optic doesn't even sit down in there where it shows too long. It's possible I'm doing something wrong but I don't think so.

@@TheBlazerBeam I know the TLR7A comes with different keys for different rail rail systems. Does it fit yours using one of the keys? I know the XDS' cannot properly mount on the TLR7/7A but first time seeing it here on an XD MOD.2 45
If I remember right it came with three keys and the default key fit my model so I didn’t have to change it out. It went on seamlessly. I put a video together where I unbox it and do a basic review on it and since that video I’ve been very impressed with its performance

It does. Without getting your slide milled your dot will sit about 3/4 of an inch higher than your standard irons
great vid. what a crappy setup XD has for its sight. i like the sight but wanted to adjust it. maybe the red dot is the way to go after all.

Great vid sir. I have a quick question concerning that mount and a different gun. I recently bought a Zigana PX-9 and it is almost identical to my Springfield XD. Do you know if this plate will fit on the Zigana? I have a bottom mounted Laser on my XD subcompact and I'd really like a red dot sight on this Zigana. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I just checked and outer impact doesn’t make an adapter plate for the zigana. They have a unique Mount for the rear sight which is what this plate mounts to so I don’t think it would work
