So many people incorrectly think this is a Bob Marley song, but it's by The Toyes from 1983.
Great knowledge! 🤙
The Toys is a way better version
I don’t think people know it’s a cover
@@wickedmirage Couldn't agree more
Many people have never heard either one
40 OZ to Freedom is one of the best albums recorded in the last 40 years. It is a "modern day" masterpiece.
I concur
Absolutely
All time favorite album
Perfect Album, it's best to listen in it's entirety
40oz to freedom!!!
The entire 40oz's To Freedom album is amazing./ If you liked this song you should check out Garden Grove next. Its a longer song and sounds great.
40 oz is their best work.
I listen to that album every day!!!
Easily their best work!! One of my fav albums of the 90's
I've been saying that for years... it's still in my Playlist. Song for song one of my fav albums of all time.
I have it and enjoy every minute 😁☺️
This whole album is a vibe - from start to finish. 22 great diverse tracks
"Smoke Two Joints" is a cover, originally released by The Toyes in 1983. For a similarly themed song check out Billy Boyo "One Spliff A Day".
Great call! Most don't know this. 🤙
Yeah, I love the original.. I'm more familiar with The Toyes version.. it's great!.
pass tha duchy on the left hand side
didn't know this, thx 👍
One spliffa daya keep da evil away
Reaction is exactly 4:20 long… well done lol
i was wondering if that happened accidentally or on purpose lol
Came here to see if anyone else noticed 😏
I had to scroll down too far for this comment
Video says 4:19.
Mine said 4:20 too
40oz to freedom is by far the most underrated album of the 90’s!!!!
If I had to pick between Sublime and Nirvana I'd take Sublime without fail.
I noticed Brad's "Huh?" moment when he heard the lines "Hard work good, and hard work fine, but first take care of head." If you put those lines in the way that Jamaicans are known for their speech, then you get the message of, "Working hard is well and good, but your mental well being should come first."
"I smoke two joints in time of peace and two in times of war, I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints and then I smoke two more." Nuff said!
This is a cover. Original song was written and performed by the Toyes. Love Sublime versions of covers though. 5446 Whats my Number cover is so good!! Theres also an Eazy E sample . Brad was a big hip hop fan and used a lot of samples in his songs.
Original 55x cooler IMHO
If you don't know Sublime, you're missing out. Seriously some great music. 40 Oz to Freedom, Garden Grove, Pawn Shop, April 26 1992, Date Rape, and Badfish are only a few of the many amazing songs to listen to.
Love how the reaction is 4 minutes and 20 seconds 😂
I love how all sublime songs sound and feel so effortless in the best possible way
Brad and Lex, every song:
"This song is a vibe"
This entire album was the soundtrack to my youth.
Same, I even gave this album to my health teacher for review and the week later she was not impressed with me.
40oz to Freedom has been the soundtrack to my life.
Except the Date Rape part, haven't encountered that yet 😳
Ditto!
Your Youth sucked.
Pawn Shop is my favorite Sublime track. Show cases Brad's guitar playing and vocals. And its just a great song that i can listen to over and over again. Caress Me Down, Chica Mi Tipo, and Garden Grove are all fantastic too.
Pawn shop is great but Jailhouse is my favorite, had a dat is up there also.
I have listened to Chica Mi Tipo on repeat for hours before. Learning the words despite no habla español.
"Hits from the Bong"... Cypress Hill!
Seriously if I were stuck on a deserted island id be ok having only this album to listen to.
Great album, I’d definitely choose an Alice In Chains or mastodon album or maybe the album edge of the earth by Sylosis. This is a great album tho so definitely wouldn’t be a bad pick.
This would be in my top five!!
Absolutely would be ok with me too! Not my top ten, but I would not be mad at the outcome!
Yes me too! At least it would lift my mood. Haha
Pathetic.
This is Ska right here 💪 I love this song. The entire album is outstanding.
Will say again... Date Rape is my favourite song by them
The intro is a sample of a line from the 1970 movie, "Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls"
High school days driving around listening to this album, gettin blazed. Treasured times.
In this episode Lex finally gets Brad's side to side sway. :-}
The whole album is a vibe.
That opening monologue is from the British version of Three's Company called Man About The House. Episodes of Three's Company were the exact same scripts from the original British series, only the character names were changed.
I love, love, love this song from Sublime. My faves are still Summertime and Santeria, but this. Is my life bro.
"Hard work good, hard work fine but first take care of head", wise words.
Bradley Nowell HAD soul!!!!
In this episode of Brad & Lex, Smoke if you got em! The Cali based psyche rock punk reggae hip hop band is is here to hotbox the spot with mellow music, story telling and WEED...Yeah!! Lex catches a contact elevation and proceeds to pass us her "pot bop" with random air guitar moments as Brad reflects on his days of partaking in the puff puff while submitting a clean and reefer less "side to side sway".
Love me some Sublime
I love Sublime and love it when Brad sang with No Doubt in Total Hate and Gwen sang with Sublime in Saw Red
One of my favorite Sublime songs. 40 oz. To Freedom is my favorite album of theirs. You can play it all the way through. Such a great band.
My favorite Sublime song, too!
I remember reading the liner notes from this record and someone was credited for the bong 😂
Lol, that's my friend. We grew up together in Long Beach. We were roommates at the time and after Sublime played at a friend's birthday party, he told them that he plays the trumpet. So he went over to their studio to mess around with them. He came back and said they recorded him taking bong rips and also got to play on Date Rape. He told them all he wanted was his name in the credits.
He was credited trumpet and bong rips. Miguel(producer) came by our house and dropped off like 20 copies of 40oz to Freedom after they cut it. I still have a copy from him.
He also played Cisco Kid on Robin the hood.
He was playing "the trumpet." Ha
Back in the 90's every Friday morning the rock station there in Tampa 98 rock would start their morning show off with this song . it was great
I could listen to Sublime all day every day.
Fun fact: total number of joints smoked in song is 42.
That's perfect
Sublime, such a kickass short lived band, so sad RIP!!!!
Yay! This band makes me happy! 💜💜💜
lovin you guys more and more with each video
Rolling Stones - can’t you hear me knocking!!!
That entire album is ICONIC. Please do Scarlet Begonias!
Sublime wore all their influences. You hear it in every song. Mixing together lines, riffs and samples taken from various artists from across several genres and films. This overall is The Toyes cover but also borrows from Easy E, Just Ice and their biggest influence The Ziggens.
"Pawn Shop" is another good one from Sublime.
The good old sensimillion I used to get mine straight from Jamaica back in the late '70s and early 80s. I used to have a smile on my face ear to ear it's completely different nowadays too much home grown now
I love that song. I don't smoke anymore either. That song was my Jeep go to. Peace.
The opening is taken from the 1970 Russ Meyer film "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls".
Super happy to see you guys get into this music
Perfect length for this song! Well played!
If you two want more weed songs...
Weed Smokers Dream - Harlem Hamfats 1936

I Got Stoned and I Missed It - Dr. Hook
Acapulco Goldie - Dr. Hook
Reefer Headed Woman - Godsmack

Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I'm Gone - Willie Nelson
Mary Sunshine - Kristen Bell In Reefer Madness musical (this one is very naughty and funny)
Marijuana, The Devil's Flower - Mr Sunshine
Wildwood Weed - Jim Stafford
A Passage To Bangkok - Rush
Thats all I can think of for now
I’d like to add two hip-hop tracks to your list: Hits From The Bong by Cypress Hill and I Got 5 On It by Luniz, but it’s gotta be the remix featuring Dru Down, Spice 1, Shock G, E-40, and Richie Rich.
@@xtldc Everyone is free to add to the list. Thanks for helping the cause.
Love the shirt lex, and this song never gets old
If you like that combo of guitar, turntables, and samples, check out some stuff from their 2nd album Robbin’ the Hood. It’s full of that vibe.
this is the album that makes me wonder what could have been. the music would have been like nothing we'll ever hear.
This is my favorite Sublime song! Its so groovy!
Maybe not the Greatest ever but this Frontman is one of the Best singer songwriters and Composers ever. Great Musicianship and some great Compositions.
RIP Bradley 🙏
*was
Lex had a good scratching sound. Dope.
LOL Im used to listening to the whole album. Damn. Keep it going, were just getting started!
RIP Bradley.

Right? I'm like NOOOOO LEX has to hear the next track!!!!!
Lex is ready smoke 2 joints! lol great pick guys.
I love this song so much
I agree garden grove... New realization and slow ride!! Trust me
Sublime, "waiting for my ruca"!
So many great memories! 😍 (the part I can remember at least 🤣)
Love you two. Keep stretching to find new music.
The quote is from the movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Fun movie.
Nothing like a little Bob Marley cover to start the day😁
40 Oz To Freedom is my favorite album to play in the summertime. Sublime was to the 90's what the Beach Boys were to the 60's, just pure beach vibes for me.
OK, hold on a second. I feel like I have to load up a bowl for this one. Darned Peer Pressure... 🤣😛
Working on one right now. Lol
If yall like this song then yall would like Garden Grove off of their self intitiled album. Definitely a vibe!!🌊☀️
Very late 60's - early 70's sound. Love it.
Joint, i'm lovin it
90s pumped out some good music
It's fun to smoke two joints while listening to Smoke Two Joints.
Get Ready great song
The lamb of god shirt 😭😭 a true metal head now
You should check out the original version by the Toyes.
You guys got a couple of bangers out today!
A good prescription for an uptight world.
Hellz yeah!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
As soon as I clicked, my two bowls lit two joints and gave me a contact buzz
I listen to this every time I go to the dispensary, haha. Can't help it.
In 1983 when this originally came out, I was 17...... and yeah, I smoked 2 joints.
I love how this video is exactly 4 minutes and 20 seconds long. 😎
More Sublime please.
You're always guaranteed a good time with Sublime
I was just explaining to a reply to my comment on Jimmy Kimmel's video about Snoop Dogg, I had to tell the guy that my initial confusing comment was that instead of this song's "I smoke 2 joints in the morning" Snoop smokes 3 joints. Anywho, this song was top video in my Homepage Recommendations right after I mentioned this song in my reply to his reply. Yes, I smoked 2 joints between my reply to him and this comment.
Great cover
bradley was a for real musical genius with music in his bones..................
40oz to freedom! Whole album
This whole album is great!
Another great song from this band is called Pawnshop.
ah yes love blasting this in my car
You guys would love Pawn Shop. The vibe of the song is amazing
Finally a song that Brad doesn’t have to make a guess that they’re talking about drugs.
Sublime - Badfish is a jam!
All of their music is great.
RIP to Bradley... them drugs have taken so many great artists.
RIP to Lou Dog too! Man's best friends.
Feed Love! Starve hate. 🤘
wake and bake baby
My childhood listening to sublime.
I absolutely love the enthusiasm, and the embracing of music in all its artistic forms.
There is one song, it moved me almost like no other!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE 🙏🏼:
Review Pink Floyd’s, “On the Turning Away” !
If one or both of you arent left with tears in your eyes, or speechless, I’ll be beyond shocked!!
this song takes me back to the 90s lol i always smoke 2 joints listening to this
Takes me back to the 80s when I would listen to the original version by The Toys and smoke 2 joints
Takes me back to 2008 highschool listening to this before I ever smoked anything but really wanted to try it. Then I smoked 4 bowls with my friends cousin the first time and life was never the same. Life was perfect for me around that time lol I get fuzzy inside thinking about it
The video is 4:20 on purpose, correct? Or is this just an amazing coincidence?
I'm sure it was intentional 😊
One of the greatest records ever
This is a song about one pimp dude. Living in a single room apt with 3 women, he's either the luckiest guy alive, or the unluckiest.
