    Back when my three boys were still home I'd drive my kids crazy pointing out all the wells I drilled on trips in a 500 mile radius from home! Yes dad we know. It got to the point they'd point them out to me before I could point them out to them.................................again! Fascinating Content here.........................Thank you

      Appreciate you watching the channel. Placing booms were few and far between out this way until about the mid-2010’s. Now that building have gotten taller and developers more aggressive with their schedules, we are seeing them on pretty much every office tower over 30 stories as well as most residential towers going 40+.

      We’ve got that new 40Z boom going up very shortly here, but I almost wish it were a 38M roll ‘N fold.

    • @canadianconcretepumper1979
      @canadianconcretepumper1979  2 роки тому

      @Vergara Ramirez this one being an early iteration of the 39Z it actually has the short crossover pipe which runs through the section A-B junction. The newer 39Z boom has all the pipeline routed to the one side. I know exactly the pipe which you speak of on those roll ‘N fold booms. Crosses over at roughly a 45 degrees angle on the 3rd boom section. That one does wear out out super quick like you said. Also, so does the makeup pipe towards the end of the 3rd section. Funny how every boom design has its own unique intricacies as to how the pipes wear.

      It’s a detachable boom. It gets lifted off the truck with a tower crane and flown up to the slab levels of the building where it’s temporarily mounted to a mast structure and used for pouring each level of the building.

    I don't miss them Day's running a placing boom here in Ireland hour's where way to long first guy onsite and last to go home. Is the money Good over there in Canada running a placing boom??? Crap over here. Plus over here we don't have buildings more then 10 floor's to keep our skyline low rise

      The wage over here for running placing boom is essentially the same pay scale as a small boom operator. With essentially every 40+ story building out here now utilizing a placing boom, an operator can definitely make a good living doing only placing boom work. Definitely need to be flexible with the work schedule however, typically vertical pour days will begin early afternoon and run into the mid-evening.

    Hey what's happening brother hey you guys don't blow back into a truck down below also do you guys use slurry as your prime out in Canada when doing placing boom?

    • @canadianconcretepumper1979
      @canadianconcretepumper1979  2 роки тому

      We got away from the “candy-cane” setup for blowing back into the mixer. Very slight risk of the assembly popping out of the mixer drum wasn’t worth it (we’ve seen it a few times around here). We always use one cubic meter of ready mix supplied grout when priming the placing boom setup.

    Ive been pumping since 2001. I done 14 placing booms. I wish i had someone like dan. The worst thing that happened was blowing out the clown down bottom didn't tell me when go devel hit the bottom. Covered the whole block when it exploded out the candy cane. Those where the days. The day of the placing boom being everywhere is over with the dragons. Ill say i watched some of your other videos and am surprised how fast you guys suck the balls. Ive always suck the slow not to jump over any rocks but if its working keep it up. Be safe and pump on.

      Dan is one of the top placing-boom guys in our local market here. Always calm, cool, and collected. A real pleasure to work with.
      So the reason we’ve evolved to pulling back the first sponge quickly is mostly because we use a hard ball on the first round and follow it up with a second sponge sucked back more slowly on the second round. We have found with the hard ball that regardless of what speed the pump is set to, it tends to hang up and then fire back in 2-3 stages rather then coming back slowly and controlled like a softer sponge would.
      Also, with running a fleet, we have far less cases of pumps coming back to the yard with sponges stuck in the boom ever since moving to the motto of “just get the first one home and let the water + soft sponge on round 2 do the fine detail work”. Once the first ball is back, even if it’s only getting the pipes 80% clean, at least the worst case scenario no longer requires us pulling apart turret pipes at 10:00PM in a Friday to locate/retrieve a stuck sponge. It’s essentially just to mitigate instances of our worst case scenario. I honestly used to give our guys shit for pulling back the first sponge quickly, but over the years have found it to be the lesser of two potential evils for our us.

    • @jjhauling4408
      @jjhauling4408 10 місяців тому +1

      I gotcha. I do the opposite. I pull soft ball back nice and slow first then water and hard ball slow. Sometimes I gotta speed it up to 3 or 4 but usually not. I watched a placing boom video of yours. Self jacking is nice compared to mid and late 2000s. We used to have to take everything apart and carry it up. The worst part of placing booms is definitely the steps. We always just blew 2 go devils. We would lube them up first. But I always tell everyone if it works for you keep doing it. There's no right or wrong as long as safe and economical. I can tell Dan's level of expertise. I've been pumping since August of 2001 17 to 55 telebelt 85 105 90 110 130. 5000 foot of system too. I thank God never an injury nor hard pump or hose ever. Keep up the good work and pump on

    • @canadianconcretepumper1979
      @canadianconcretepumper1979  10 місяців тому

      @@jjhauling4408 do you find at all that slurry water tends to get past the hard ball? That’s the main reason why I pull the soft one second (it seems to wipe the pipes better). Could just be something I’m doing wrong as well 🤔🤔🤔

    • @jjhauling4408
      @jjhauling4408 10 місяців тому +1

      If it's working keep doing it. I honestly couldn't tell you as I've not had pipe apart in a long time but every time I take it apart you can eat off it it's that clean. If I don't put hose back on I get a couple pieces of super clean sand that falls out after the ball goes so it's definitely clean but like I said if it's working don't change it. Here's another tip to help you guys out. At your swivel gaskets don't use grease. Go to home depot buy 1.50 toilet bowl wax ring. Stuff the gaskets and clamp full to the max. Even if you pack off light weight every day it will last 3 months on the tip then use grease if you have nipple. It will last 6 months. I've put 30k yards through it already before had to touch it. Let me know if your gonna try it and how you like it. Maybe I'll tell you some more 😏 be safe and pump on
