Fell Wanderer. That was a tough one by the look & sound of things. No one can call you "fair weathered". The views were stunning * Thank you for showing us another lovely place :-)
you know what "DOESN'T MAKE SENSE?" To just sit around watching others do this stuff. Get off your back sides and go get some! Always a joy to see you out there sir. cheers from so ca.
What I admire about you, Damian, is that you show people that you can make do with cheaper options and still enjoy the great outdoors. It's all about mind-set. You don't need 'all the gear'! Yes, good gear is great, but if you haven't got the wherewithal to invest in the 'Gucci' stuff, you can still go wild-camping... I know it makes sense. ;)
Great video Damian buddy. Glad to read you fixed the camcorder but honestly enjoyed the gopro footage. Love watching all your outings always makes me smile. Had a massive smile when you told us you had found a water source, come on mate your in the Lake District that can't be hard...LOL. ;) ATB buddy.
The gopro is better footage TBH, it doesn't have great audio and image stabilization but can be corrected in post. I have to admit if someone can't find water in the lake district then they're probably to thick to be there lol.. thanks for your comment, ATB
I can deflate it in about 2 minutes but there always seems to be a little bit air left so difficult to get into the stuff sack. I do like the mat and offers a better night sleep than my Thermarest Prolite. Its just a small gripe because to be fair, it didn't take long to break camp and head down hill as I was cold. Thanks for your comment, ATB.
Well marra i live about 5-6 miles up towards the coast in cockermouth from your lacation and know where you set up at but this year the wind as been relentless and once sun goes down the windchill as been baltic so respect if you hacked that all night i camped out only a wk before you and had my thermals on and winter hat on regards jon 👍 Ps you are correct in saying west cumberland is the best place in the lakes but dont tell to many folk or itll become too popular 😆
Hi Jon, it was cold and the wind got stronger through the night, so was pleased when morning came so I could leave before the heavy rain arrived. Thanks for watching, atb, Damian.
Nice one Damian I've got a Nikon DSLR with built in time lapse and a Samyang 14 ml wide angle which I use for my night stuff . I like your style of cooking lean cuisine ,what doesn't stick in your throat. and the go pro shows your more Debonair stylish grey haired looks lol ,Great video love the lakes ,keep a hold see you soon ATB Paul
Thanks Paul, the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 is a lovely inexpensive lens for landscapes and astrophotography, I can't get over how bright and sharp it is under low light. I put magic lantern on Mandy's older 500D and although it can't do video at 25fps, it can now do timelapses with the intervalometer. Part of me can't wait for the dark nights to take starlapses, but I'm wishing the summer away just when its started. I've got a couple of ideas for a new camp, will email the details and will be free next week and at the weekend.
I underrated Loweswater until going there myself and realising how beautiful it is. Being on the edge of the lakes, I would pass by thinking it wasn't worth a look. The truth is, anywhere in the lake district is lovely if you find the right viewpoint .
Nice to see your smilin' face again...People don't realise how cold it can get on a night oot in the sticks..even in "summer". Mind you i've sat all night before today in a T shirt..
Great video, love your style, keep up the great work, i am always ready for your next video, best wishes from Thailand, hope to be back there soon, you have won me over to wild camping.
Very enjoyable, i watched this in bed recovering from surgery. I think the wide angle actually worked very well, its sometimes hard to get all the beautiful scenery in at times. Well done coping with the weather yet still taking time to film and share with us, great work. Sorry your main cam has died i cant help you there but did i hear you need a torch! i might have a spare for you mate ;-)
Thank you Richy, my main camera is working again, the zoom/focus mechanism was sticking so kept shutting down. I took it apart and sprayed switch cleaner inside and now it works again. The gopro offers a better wide angle and video quality but no image stabilization and zoom lens, so both cameras have their good points and bad. Thanks for the offer of a torch, I have several and had left them at home. ATB, Damian.
@@Fell_Wanderer Im glad you were able to do a cheeky repair on the camera nice work mate, you are right a proper cam is superior in functions. Keep enjoying the vast skies and sweeping green landscapes of the beautiful wilds. Richy
Always love watching your videos - I’m just starting out really with doing what your doing - so your a great inspiration to me. I’m fortunate enough to be spending a week with Ray Mears next week - so after that and your videos I think I’ll be ready to strike out somewhere - the lakes have always been close to my heart for many reasons - so seems logical I’ll start there. Cheers from Leeds 👍🏻

Thanks Stuart, you can't beat the simplicity of using a bivy. I prefer the Snugpak Statosphere as it keeps out the bugs and removes the need for a tarp which is no good under those windy conditions. ATB, Damian.
The western lakes is becoming one of my favourite haunts because its quiet, more easily accessible for parking and you don't see too many people. I'm doing ok mate, hope you are to, ATB, Damian.
I can't help but think, that depression you set your bivy in.....could be a grave from a thousand years or more ago. Not creepy or anything. Kind of cool actually. Great video as usual. Thank you from Iowa in the US.
Thats an interesting thought because its where people would have wanted to be laid to rest. We often scatter the ashes of our departed in beautiful places where they once wandered and enjoyed in life so maybe early man did the same. Thanks for your comment, ATB, Damian
Brilliant once again Damian, those views were great, shame about the wind, it bothers me more than rain! Love the lightweight bivy style it’s what I mostly enjoy doing, lighter the pack the further you can go. Just a shame my mates don’t feel the same, they are 120l plus pack size! Thanks again mate, all the best.
Thanks Dean, with minimal gear there is always the risk of the weather turning bad and things get miserable. It was too windy to pitch a tarp so somewhere more sheltered would have been better but I would have lost the views. I think the best all round setup for lightweight in the hills when the weather can turn nasty and be protected from the elements is an enclosed bivy like the Snugpak Stratosphere or your Dutch army bivy, ATB, Damian
You know Damian.... theres a Scottish saying," never through a cluet till May is oot", nice during the day day but it can turn in a heartbeat, but another brilliant video, I look forward to every single one you do. Cheers bud. 🏴
