STRONG WINDS on Grasmoor Solo Wild Camp

- I set off from Braithwaite for a night in my MLD Duomoid tent on Grasmoor. My outward route included Grisedale Pike and Hopegill Head before turning south toward Crag Hill and then east onto the summit of Grasmoor. I had to drop down about 500ft from the summit due the strong winds, but still struggled to get a secure pitch due to my trekking pole bending and sinking into the soft ground. Reluctantly I decided not to risk spending the night there and moved to another pitch at 2000ft near Sand Hill. I love this tent and I'm determined to get the pitching right. I have since made improvements to my trekking pole set up and am looking forward to testing these out next time. My return route the following morning was via the now disused Force Crag Mine (more info below). A 14 mile walk with 4700ft of ascent.

I now watch your videos as a comfort for myself they remind me of my dad thank you so much.
I’m so sorry to hear this. May I please offer you my deepest condolences at this difficult time. I remember your dad commenting on one of my videos in the summer, saying how he used to go backpacking when he was younger and was now enjoying my videos as he couldn’t get out any more. Sounds like he had an amazing time back then and I’m sure he had many an interesting tale to tell.

Oh man I really wish you could keep going if at all possible. You’re not a moaner. I don’t think any of us mind you sharing if you feel a bit down. That’s not moaning. Excellent as usual, don't panic about how long it takes to get back out, we will all be here waiting, hope for a speedy recovery. It was great to see a different area of the lake district. Just shows a plan B is always needed in case of bad weather and it turned out well in the end. You can always go back to plan A another time. Wish you all the best dave. Definitely don't quit the channel if it's because you worry that taking time away will take a hit to the progress you've made. Having companies approach you shows that what you're doing is great not only for us viewers but for them too. I for one really enjoy your videos, gives me a huge sense of wanderlust and inspires me to look further afield than my nearest peaks and hills to visit. However, if there's other stresses in your life that require you to take time away I guarantee you the vast majority of us subscribers would be waiting if/when you came back to it. Don't like the b**tards get you down!

I had it a few years ago, had the operation to straighten the fingers its nothing to worry about mate
You’ll probably be prescribed physio afterwards and then be as good as new
It’s known as ‘Vikings Disease’ because of its prevalence in
Northern Europe

Personally I hope you can continue with the videos, they are quality. But you do what’s best for you. Best wishes.
You only live once, do what makes you happy, stop doing what fails to fulfill you. But know that if you do decide to continue with your youtube adventures I will be watching and enjoying them. I have said before, in the USA they can fix Dupuytrens Contracture with an outpatient injection, maybe that is not offered onnthe NHS, not sure why not as it would seem to be less expensive than surgery, or maybe your particular case was not appropriate for it. Whatever you decide, get well, stay well and do what you need to do be happy.
Always buy RR Dave great clothing both for on and off the hills, hope all is well get back on the hills soon.

For me, you in the top couple of mountain wild campers that influences and inspires me the most. It goes beyond motivation for paths, pitches, views and kit. It’s also the feeling. You’ve clearly had a tough year and if we don’t see you again this year I’d like to wish you a quick recovery from the hand operation and the other issues - physical or otherwise - you’ve experienced this year. I find an adventure boring if all went to plan without hickups route changes poor weather etc, feels more like a proper venture if you have change plans along the way 😁 keep this going if you can, the mountains will still be there once you've recovered from your op.. Just spent some time reading all the comments for this video and I have to say it’s lovely to realise that channels like yours can be so positive for people. In many ways the fact you’ve brought the joy of nature into peoples homes during such a tough period of time makes it all the more important that everyone wants to see you back to your old self.
