- The American team nailed their landings and then extended their lead on the uneven bars when Nastia Liukin delighted the crowd with a complex series of releases and handstands and a tricky dismount to earn a 16.375. (WCSN, WCSN.com)
I don't think people appreciate how long she stays on the bars... in the 90s, routines were between 30-40 seconds. The arm strength is unbelievable.
Congratulations to Nastia and Valeri and Anna for being such great supportive parents.
Nastia you were phenomenal!!!!
You and Shawn make us all so proud!!!!
I would crack very bone of my body if I had to do that XD
Yeah me too 😂😂
It was just an accident...... and FYI I had a sprained right hand when I wrote that, and I am right handed.
+Chloe Miller oh ok sorry 😍
I cracked my bones just watching this!
Her parents were gymnasts. When they came to the states and worked at the gym, they took Nastia with them, and she was mimicking some of the moves. They reluctantly trained her. She's the best in the world.
Fantastic to watch! Her long lines, especially during her release moves makes her so much a virtuoso! Great job, Nastia!
She is absolutely perfect on bars - it's by far her best apparatus and she pretty much dominates it!
best shes done (in terms of perfection) although this is only from one angle so idk
Her legs 😍
if doing gymnastic for 10 years.
i'm from the netherlands and she always was my idol.
she does everything so perfect.
i stoped with gymnastic because it was so hard to came on the top.
and i'm proud of her that she never gived up
she is great!
sorry for bad english ;$
How come she competed under her full name of Anastasia? (Yes I know Nastia is short for Anastasia, I'm just wondering why sometimes she competed as Nastia and others as Anastasia?)
good question. Lauren Hernandez too. sometimes its Laurie
ChooseYour Poison q
When television broadcasts show the athlete's name it shows their name that is on their birth certificate... like "Gabrielle Douglas", "Anastasia Liukin", or even "Alexandra Raisman". But on NBC it shows what people call them like "Gabby", Nastia", and "Aly"
ChooseYour Poison I'm just assuming some competitions let you use you nickname and some don't
It sometimes depends on the success of the gymnast , first it was alexandra raisman cuz nobody knew her , but if you say aly the gymnast now i think you would find a bunch to know who youre talking about
I don't pretend to be an expert on gymnastics.
To me there's something so graceful about
Nastia.
She's just a cut above, a finer tissue.
I think everyone could agree on that.
This routine seems really long. Am I imagining it or are they shorter now?
Fun Facts i feel it too....
They used to count 10 elements to the start value and now they count 8, so yes they have gotten shorter.
And it’s even shorter now because the execution is tougher so shorter routines are better and the cop is heavily on cv so they connect a lot of moves
Beauty in motion.
Dude...I just can't believe how gracefull she is. Even on UB, then could be a "strong's apparatus". She is perfect and deserve be tha Olympic Champion.
Nastia, you're the best! Here I am saiyng, a brazilian fan.
This was simply marvellous....the way she carried it out.....AMAZING!!!!
Amusing and talented dismount she did.
she is so grace full when she dose this its so good ! amazing
wow this is so amazing to watch! it looks so hard but her presision is amazing!
She has a really loose back. She is amazing! WOW!
Anastasia did extrememly well on this routine...some of her turns and releases were a little late and some of the skills were a bit rushed, but the dismount was almost impeccably performed.
She is from the 2008 olympics
I love it when they stick their dismounts, all that work pays off to get that one little end. :)
she is good
I said that they put her to shame *in that respect*. She's a great gymnast and she can throw a lot of really difficult tricks, especially on bars. Her lines were great and her gymnastics looked effortless. It was for these reasons as well as for the change in scoring emphasizing difficulty that she won the AA in Beijing. In terms of gracefulness and artistry, however, we must look to the Romanians and Russians. If one compares Nastia Liukin to Svetlana Khorkina, for example...
Nice nastia :) i am from germany and i am in gymnastic too
Gymnast*
WOW!!! Her dismount... one of the best, by far!!!
That moment when you go to this video only expecting the watch a great bar routine and then the advertisement before it is for One Direction and it just makes it even better
Nastia and Shawn Johnson are amazing
BEAUTIFUL dismount!
I think, and don't quote me, but I heard somewhere that her father is Russian and a gymnast, and her mother is American. The family lives in the US though. So she might have been born in Russia, but she was raised in the US.
I still remember watching this happen. She was the hero of the USA women's gymnastics team.
In day-to-day conversation I still refer to Alicia Sacrimone's choking. I say things like "Aw man, that guy really Alicia Sacrimone'd that..."
@wannaknowit it's where she gets off of the bars from 1:01-1:03 the dismount was good because she landed on her feet and didn't fall over or anything :)
Really spectacular performance by Nastia Liukin! She really performed that double front half out great!!! :) Her pak salto was beautiful, her geinger was something else; well doe Nastia!!!
Really? I met her once and she was really nice! I got her autograph and a picture with her, which she was more than happy to oblige.
Her routine was the best. She's so sophisticated!
he's right. this dismount is much more consistent for her. she consistently doesn't stick it.
love the pac salto!
wow. she is so good
She makes it look so easy!
look at her fly on that tkatchev.
she is AMAZING!
i love her.
I can see that... but if you watch her after she's done with the meet, she's all smiles. I think she just focuses really hard and then she "looks nicer" after she's done.
I don't think people appreciate her for being one of the very few non-Chinese gymnasts that can perform Ono and Healy turns.
I totally agree greaper717. I get to see her at the 2008 Tour of Gymnastic Superstars thing in Cleveland. 1st Row!!!
@123Kearns No, not at all. Anastasia is her real name. Nastia is her nickname. Just like if you called someone named Elizabeth, Liza or Beth.
That was the most amazing routine I have ever seen
she is soo beautiful on bars and she makes it look so easy :)
I liked her old dismount, it seemed more graceful. I didn't realize it was inconsistant.
Go Nastia!! Proof that *eligible* gymnasts of a normal weight can compete and win. You rock, girl.
You were right...they got the top two spots in the trials.
Nastia is amazing!
CONGRATS NASTIA!!
very good!!!😍
Her dismount does have bent legs ands flexed feet but thats the way its supposed to be, and she does is wonderfuly. She is the best gymnast ever!
She is amazing on the uneven bars! =]
W0w, AWESOME DISMOUNT!
Nastia is 1 of my Idols!
:D
BEAUTIFUL!
AMAZING STYLE
@IUseThisSite no, the character was actually her in real life. So cool!
Beautiful
In my opinion, Yang Yilin, the Chinese girl who got bronze was way underscored. She made no errors in her routine and had a perfect landing. Her difficulty level was also the same as Nastia's and He Kexin's. She should have gotten the gold!
yeah she is. she's taking a break from the olympics. she will compete at the 2009 nationals.
I waited too long to get tickets so I don't get to sit that close, but I'm still going! Row X at the corner. But it will still be awesome.
jana is still competing for the us. I believe somebody asked her if she ever considered competing for Germany and she said that she felt that she was completely American, or something like that so she wouldn't consider changing countries.
she finally sticks her dismount.I watched this on tv
Haha i love how the announcer is like "Nastia Lee-ookin"
hahaha i love her face when she sticks it, shes like "did i really just do that?"
So elegant
i think even though chelsie doesnt have the exact same... wow factor she used to shes the most expeirenced in the bunch and has the maturity and toughness to be on that team. ... look at the 2006 worlds... she competed injured, and went into bar and AA finals in 1st place but had to drop out due to her .. shoulder or ankle i think.
Wow youtube hold right here, uploaded 12 years ago
i hope they will win in this year their 3rd world team title :)
wow, it was perfect for me, this girl is vry talented
The only time I've ever seen her stick that dismount.
"Nastia stick her dismount." Me: When does she not stick her dismount?
like 90% of the time
Perfetta!! The queen of gymnastics
muzykagirl,I was a gymnast long ago.So unless you have a time machine you won't be seeing me at the Olympics!I was only trying to point out some of the things the judges may have also seen.I agree, though she was born in Russia & her parents are Russian,She has been raised in the USA so that makes her American to me.I think you would find that with gymnast parents she was tummbling before she was walking.watching some of the montage vids, she has been doing gym since she was a tiny tot.
wow, that dismount was something...!
It's so nice
U look soo pretty in that routine!! Bars is probably ur BEST event! AND NICE STICK!!!!!!! =)
omg im a team gymnast and that routine was amazing!!!
When the anouncer dude says she changed her dismount from a double layout because it was inconsistent that is not true. She never faultered on the double layout.
she is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@marchbaby2015 if you actually see all the rest of her competitions she hits almost perfect verticals on handstands
Nastia's excellent besides dismounts. Sort of wished the title of the video had added on 'for once'.
there is no doubt that Nastia is the more powerful tumbler, but the aesthetics of Svetlana's performance show that she is a true "artistic" gymnast and is far more graceful than Nastia is.
as your heading is nastia sticks dismount and everyone keeps saying "but nastia stuck her dismount and he didn't", i inadvertantly presumed that you had posted this video of dismount to emphasise that point
She is awsome !! i want to be able to do what she does ! she does awsome stuff! she is my idol!
en verdad... este deporte es fantástico y hermoso... que fútbol ni que ful bol.. la gimnasia es el mejor deporte que existe
Congratulations Nastia! you totally deserved it!
I'm so glad she got gold. She really was amazing (and hot).
I love her!!!!!
Who says she hasn't tried to clean it up? Just because she hasn't gotten it yet to the point where she can be dead on, doesn't mean she won't.
She makes it look so easy. Not an easy feat, I imagine.
Can someone explain to me what the gentlemen who step onto the mat periodically throughout the routine are doing? I mean, I imagine they're spotters, but what good can they do really? If a girl falls, with that kind of speed, there doesn't seem to be much they can do. They'll just get hurt too.
That is her coach Valeri Liukin, who also happens to be her dad. Gymnasts are actually trained to fall so that they don't hurt themselves. The coaches just step in at places in the routine where a fall could be dangerous, e.g. on a giant release. They are actually very good at spotting when a gymnast is about to miss the skill and anticipating where they will fall, and believe me they move like lightning when that happens. They are also trained in catching the gymnast so they don't hurt themselves e.g. by bending their knees as they catch, feet shoulder width apart to spread the impact and bracing their abdominal muscles.
Nerdfighter21 They're there to make sure that they are ok during the pass. If they see beforehand that they are going to fall, then they can be prepared
Anna Pavlova's Pak is amazing, too! Watch her!
Jaycie's dismount was not from an inverted grip and NAstia's is. I've never done an inverted grip dismount before but i imagine that it would greatly affect the preflight of the dismount. I'm not sure now much bonus she get from the inverted grip and if its worth the trouble in the end.
que bella mujer..
she is awesome
"Froggy sticks dismount".
It's not Dagget who is commentating this competition, it's Bart Conner.
She was AWESOME! I think we have found our next Mary Lou!
and when can i see you in the olympics?
