    This verse IS one of my favorites, and yes it is very dangerous to take then out of context. This verse has helped me through my highs and lows of life, and continues to remind me that Christ is with me through EVERYTHING. I had a 3 nail cross tattooed on my wrist with P.4.13 on the side ... for me as a reminder that no matter what happens in my life, good or bad, Christ will give me the strength to be content through it all. This world is rapidly declining in front of our eyes and we need Him to give us strength every day until we are in His glorious presence. You did a great job Kendra!!

    Christians should not bring down other Christians. I think just because someone is an athlete does not mean they don’t draw their strength from christ. Paul was saying through his hardship. Christ is his strength, & Has guided him through everything he has been through. Christian’s (including Christian athletes) all go through condemnation. & we can get through all hardships the secular world throws at us, through Christ. So if the verse helps us realize that, & people want to express that through clothes, tattoos, putting it on their cleats or athletic wear for a reminder. I don’t see the problem in it. We need to support each other as believers in Christ. Thanks for telling the story of the book and teaching the history on it & showing us what apostle paul was going through when writing the book of Philippians.

    Amen! Another verse which falls victim to Soundbite Christianity is Isaiah 53:5. "By His stripes we are healed." Soooo many Christian leaders and followers preach that Isaiah was referring to physical healing, when in context he is talking about spiritual healing from our "transgressions" and "iniquities." It pains me when I hear that this verse proves the Lord will always heal us if we only have enough faith. It's dangerous and irresponsible to say such a thing!!! How many have questioned or lost their faith because they were not healed after being told this verse was the miracle cure?!? I myself know a few. This is not to say that I don't believe the Lord heals, because He obviously does. But, a better verse to point to when dealing with sickness (and really any hardship) is 2 Corinthians 12:9. "'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." It points to our weakness in the flesh, but our strength through Him. Humility, humility, humility.

      @_KendraChristine  2 роки тому +1

      Mmmm yes, that is such a sad twisting of scripture. But I totally agree 2 Corinthians 12:9 is one of the most encouraging scriptures to anyone and through any of their ailments🙏🏻

    “It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there.” “Winner take all.” “Nice guys finish last.” “Move up or move over.” “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” These are the slogans of a world driven by competition at its worst. At its best, competition can bring out the best in each of us, driving us to improve ourselves and sharpen our skills, motivating us toward excellence. The apostle Paul used his competitive nature to reach as many people as possible with the Good News about Jesus. But when infected with wrong goals and wrong motives, competition can destroy relationships and corrode our hearts. We are called by God to work hard to do our best, not to compete against others simply to beat them. If beating others is our only goal, we honor only ourselves and have taken our eyes off of God. If doing our best is our goal, then we honor the God who created us for excellence.

    I call this the “student athlete verse”😂😂 but in all seriousness, it’s sad how people use Philippians 4:13 like the Lord Jesus is their good luck charm that’ll help them win a game☹️ Christ is enough and eternally worthy of glory and praise, regardless of where we are.

    The verse imo just about the same message to the book of Job in old testament. God gives u great times, God gives u low time and you are strong enough in both situations. This situation i think was related to paul's disease that he asked God to heal but God said my grace to you is enough so paul wrote that in weakness he rejoices because God is glorified. Moral of the story is that God may not always answer you for good reason that u could never understand till u see it from His perspective: He wants us to experience him and less about our egos.
