    I went to SFSL for the 50th anniversary celebration by myself for the first half of the day until my husband got off work. I decided to ride American Thunder by myself. Some guy was in line behind me trying to make small talk and I clearly didn't want to be having a conversation but he wouldn't let up. Then I go to get on the ride and he sat down right next to me. Talked the ENTIRE TIME. Then I wander around for a bit and decide to ride Pandemonium. I was about to get on with a mom and her two young girls when the operator asked if anybody was a single rider to fill the last seat. Sure enough, this guy happened to be the next single rider in line. He sat down next to me and talked to everybody the entire time. You could tell everyone was super annoyed with him, the mom and I just kept giving each other looks. After the ride, I saw the mom and her kids get back in line to re-ride. I wandered for a little bit then found my way close to Screamin' Eagle when saw that guy heading that way too. I ducked behind some people even though I'm sure he saw me and then I just booked it to the bathrooms and hung out there for a few minutes. I then decided to wait for my husband to get off work before riding anything else.
    It's not that I'm not a people-person but this guy gave off weird vibes and couldn't take a hint. Small talk in line is one thing, but please NOT during the ride.

    We used to say that people check their brains at the gate when they enter a park. One of my favorite anecdotes from my years: I was working the exit gate at the carousel. The gate had a five-foot-by-two-foot sign above it with big red letters that spelled EXIT. I opened the gate to let people out after a ride had ended. As I was closing it, a woman ran over and tried to pull back open. With the band organ blaring, it was pointless to talk. So I simply shook my head and pointed up at the sign. The woman looked at it, turned back to me and said indignantly, "It says "in"!

    When I was at Disney, and wanted to build my lightsaber at Savis Workshop, of course I was very nice to the GE cast member. I figured there was a wait, and even if you had to make a reservation I wasn't aware you needed one in advance, that you just could do one right there and while I was super nice it came across as a blissfully unaware approach that was actually quite funny when I look back on it. I had been told "hold on. Let me see what I can find out" goes to talk to a super and was like "you're in luck someone just canceled .. i just had a spot open" honestly, I doubt this was the case but since I had been so nice to her and said if you say no I understand, the super had probably said "squeeze him/make it work" etc This girl bless her heart found me a spot thankfully. My grandmother had a variation on the fly/honey expression. She would say "you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar"

    Everything you said about being nice goes equally as well on a cruise. Be nice to everybody and it will come back ten fold.

    My two biggest pet peeves on rides are 1: People having conversations, and 2: Having their phones or camera viewfinders on blast in dark rides. You should get a sponsorship from Coca-Cola now lol.

    Here at Six Flags we say "Have a SIX FLAGS day, sir!". Some of the guests could pick up on it, but they technically couldn't rat us out for it. Seems like all parks have that "special" phrase for telling the guests either they're special... or they're SPECIAL...

    I called out a lady who stepped over a chain to skip the zig zags in the bus queue. She ended up in front of us and her husband was behind us and tried to get past us to join her. I was tired and cranky so I stopped him and called out her queue jumping much to my boyfriends embarrassment 😆 But her husband agreed it was wrong and made her join him behind us.

    I only ever did the flash photography once, and that was by accident.
    I'd just gotten a new camera, and didn't realize when it 'fell asleep' when it was used again, RESET the settings. I'd turned flash off for Haunted Mansion Holiday, and waited to get a pic of the massive Jack (with Zero).
    *FLASH*
    Oop.
    Also, I've been known to wander in front of cameras, unintentionally. . . I'm normally bad at 'seeing' other people (again - not intentionally, but even out of the massively distracting parks I just don't register people walking around with me. Kind of due to it being my way of mentally coping with claustrophobia)
    But I do apologize and try to Scurry my way OUT of the shot as fast as possible... (As fast as a person in a back brace using a can CAN go. . . XD)

    We went on a trip when I was about 5 or 6 to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.
    At the farm, we were on a car ride where the riders disembarked on two possible sides.
    My entire family got off on the side opposite from me. ( I ended up in a car without any of them).
    You might say my brain checked out but I was young and was trying to get to my family, so I was about to head across the tracks to get to them.
    One of the employees grabbed me and directed me to the proper exit.
    I am glad that he did and was able to give me the direction I needed in my panicked state.
    Things could have gone very wrong there. I'm not even sure that anyone from my family saw it.

    Question: does meeting a family member in line count as cutting in line?

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  2 роки тому

      Depends.
      If they went ahead of everyone else to save a place while they were doing other things, then yes it absolutely does.
      However if they were originally in line and had to leave for a bathroom break or, in the case of a long line, to get drinks/ snacks, then no, as they were already in line.
      in other words, rejoining a line they were already in because of a nature break (or little kids needing some brief attention) no problem. But because they were shopping, sitting down eating, doing another ride or attraction, etc, then yes, that's skipping the line. Their family member should have waited until everyone was there, and at some parks that can be grounds to be escorted out of the park.

    I always get asked some questions whenever I am at SDC. A lot of them is either guests being concerned about the weather, or just needed some directions to one of the rides or something within the park itself. But in the mean time, I don't normally get any dump questions from anyone whenever I visit.

    You asked the question of why do people do what they do. Before I even watch this I have come to two answers. The first one is stupidity. A lot of people are just playing stupid. I'm not trying to act better than anybody else I have my own stupid moments. You have many people that have stupid moments and some that are just plain stupid. The second is they don't care and this unfortunately is most human beings nowadays sad but true

    This reminds me of that part of The Matrix when Neo knocks the vase over because he was distracted being told it was going to happen. Would the stubborn lady have tripped on the chain if she wasn’t distracted by the cast member? Spooky.

    People who cut in line, or who are very distracting, or loud are always aggravating. Like stop laughing so loud during a dark ride. Stop pushing past other people. Stop being flat out selfish. I absolutely love theme parks, but people can be flat out rude and inconsiderate.

    The last time I was in the haunted mansion there was a group reciting the entire stretching room narrative. I thought it was incredibly rude. As you say, you can't assume everyone has heard it before.

    • @AdventureswithKatelyn
      @AdventureswithKatelyn 2 роки тому +1

      I had a similar experience. The stretching room was full of teenagers reciting the narrative. The only difference was that throughout the duration of the ride, this group of teenagers were standing up on the ride and screaming their heads off. The ride got stopped a dozen times from pure stupidity.

    Sometimes I wonder if the people who break magic want attention because they feel totally alone and they're looking for someone to have an interaction with. Probably too generous of a thought though.

    • @SirWillow
