    i found one online last week and got it on an impulse. the picture had a half serrated blade but when it came it had a plain edge blade. such a great knife and i am much happier with the one handed opening and plain edge than i have beeen with any other swiss army i have owned.

    Their Products are solidly built and Useful. For Folks on the Fence, get One that catches the Eye toss it in a Pocket or Pack carry it and they will be surprised how much they will use it. A positive is in some environments where using a "Knife" raises "Concern" no one raises an eye or casts a look when its a Swiss Army Knife, even one this size

    I just bought a Ranger, which is a straight blade right-handed opener. The liner lock is released by pressing the Victorinox shield on the scale. Pretty clever. It doesn't have a saw, but I doubt that I'll miss it. It has a corkscrew instead of the Phillips head. I don't see this as an EDC knife, but it seems that it'll be a pretty good light- to medium-duty camping or bushcraft knife. We have Winter Storm Jason passing through, so it may be a couple days before I can test it.

    I've got a plain edge OHT. Great knife. I do wish they'd bring back the Rucksack model.

    That notch in the large flat blade screwdriver is actually a wire stripper... The way it is operated is you place the screwdriver blade at the half stop and open the main blade. You place a piece of wire in the notch from the back side then gently lower the main blade onto the sheath of the cable. Spin the knife, and gently pull away the end of the insulation from the cable. With practice this is a quick task to repeat on my farmer or electrician SAK's and while it might be a little more odd with this larger knife it will still work great.

      wb5mgr Thank you so much! I've never had that explained before and it makes perfect sense! I never understood how that notch could strip a wire with its rounded corners. Great comment, my friend!

    • @JoegInvestigator
      @JoegInvestigator 7 років тому +1

      wb5mgr I've never seen victorinox demonstrate this technique while watching the the stripper used in any of their commercials . this is something someone with too much time on their hands came up with and put on you tube . I would never ruin my blade edge by spinning the blade in the same spot on the blade wearing a groove into my edge on copper wire. the main blade is used to strip away the wire casing but not a ten step process of opening and closing two of the tools 4 times and spinning it like a pipe cutter 6 turns wearing a groove into your blade ruining your knife. hold the knife like a knife .carefully strip away the casing trying not to contact too much metal in the core . after you have cut the casings on all the wires your working with, step 2 fold the blade away and use the notch on the bottle opener/ screwdriver to pull off the casings . the MacGyver method you people have invented has no practical use in the real world . its too many steps for a simple job that can be done in 2 steps or less in 2 seconds. I've never even used that wire stripper , I usually pull the casing off with my fingers , but I can see the usefulness of the notch for people with less finger strength I guess . but opening the main blade and bottle opener positioning the wire into thw notch , drop the main blade down onto the wire , then spin the whole knife around the wire until you have a groove worn into your main blade (better known as that damaged part of the edge you always strip wires in) , then you pull the main blade off the wire , open the bottle opener with the wire still in it , close the main blade , then pull the casing off using the stripper. by then I've stripped 10 wires , took a nap and touched up my blade with a wet stone. I have many victorinox knives that the main blade and stripper open on the same end of the knife. now you tell me how you can make your contraption work on that knife. the notch is still there but the main blade can't close on the wire . it would hit the unsharpened part of the blade (tang) . not mention spinning a half open razor sharp knife around a wire being careful where to grab it each revolution. if my life depended on stripping and splicing a wire in a hurry , your fired. go think of some uses for the key ring

    • @gambet0007
      @gambet0007 6 років тому +1

      I agree, I find it much easier to just make two-three cuts on wire casing and pulling it out with hands or that notch against your fingers while squeezing wire in between. It is much more harder to do with half screwdriver position and blade closing on wire thing.

  • @gambet0007
    @gambet0007 6 років тому +1

    There is very specific reason for the left hand close and midway spring lock on main blade, it concerns safety of user when closing the blade. They want user to remove their right hand out and use both hands to close the lock, it is great help for inexperienced people with folding knives. I think Vic are doing this in other models with liner locks as well.

    Just thought you'd like to know that I'm sitting here stropping my cadet as I watch this trekker video : )
    I forgot you had a green alox cadet. Lucky you!
    Very much looking forward to a Victorinox series. Like we talked about they're WAY more than trinkets. I edc a cadet everyday. Love the farmer as well.
    My Trekker now resides in the Airstream toolbox. It's a fantastic multi-tool.

    A plain edged, left handed, liner locked Victorinox One-Handed Trekker??? What is that... a 1 of 1 kinda deal? :) Do you know somebody in Switzerland???
    I'm a bit of a SAK fan myself. Own several of them... don't carry them much anymore, but I do keep them in my EDC backpack and/or vehicles still. Great knives. And I completely agree with you about plain edges vs serrated edges. About the only serrated edge I like (and use) is the one on my little Spyderco Ladybug3 Salt Hawkbill.
    Too funny about the reemer & belt holes... I lost about 20lbs three years ago and did just that... used the awl on my Leatherman CS4 to do the same thing. Still wearin' that belt! LOL!!!

    When you fully open the phillips screwdriver or the corkscrew on the smaller traditional Victornox models, there is a tiny little hole in the plastic handle immediately to right of pivot point. That tiny hole is designed to insert a single sewing pin - Victornox expects you to put one in there should you want one. Haven't handled one these new larger ergonomic models, so curious if that little pin hole is there under the phillips driver/ corkscrew withthese larger models?

    Is that lock designed that way to prevent accidental disengagement , as you grip the knife the grip will twist on the knife in the opposite direction of the lock disengagement? Presumably for a right handed person only?

    So ... is it useful for a right-handed person? Or should I just get the "classic" - not one-handed - version? :)

    • @Max-tl6su
      @Max-tl6su 9 років тому +1

      +Michal Urban so because the liner lock requires 2 hands, you rather get a knife that OPENS with 2 hands, and has no lock? Makes sense

  • @05generic
    @05generic 10 років тому

    Now righties have an opportunity to gripe -no rightie version! But the utility and tool selection is still beautiful. Now Victorinox, is a pocket clip too much to ask for?
    It seems you now have to pay a bit of a premium to get a one hand non-serrated version with black scales. The reg. ns in black and any version in that hideous dark green camo are at normal prices.

    • @JoegInvestigator
      @JoegInvestigator 7 років тому +1

      05generic its a right hand knife with one hand deployment and 2 hand close .the serated version is a chisel grind that is upside down for left hand users but still has the 2 hand lock that pushes to the right. the lock pushes opposite of a right hand users thumb to prevent accidental lock disengagement. a righty can rest his thumb on the lock and push on the spine . if a lefty decides to rest his thumb on this lock while pushing on the spine (back edge of the blade) it will fold up on him . for the life of me I will never understand why one hand closure is so important. its the one hand opening feature that is important. its easy to see why that's crucial if only one hand is available when the knife needed . but closing it agaisnt your leg or 2 hands is not an inconvenience. opening could mean life and death, closing it means your done with it. hundreds of one hand opening lock backs require 2 hand closure . this is not a left handed knife and there is a higher risk of accidental lock disengagement for leftys. leftys have to make a conscious effort not to rest their thumb on the lock where as a righty resting his thumb on the lock only holds the lock bar in the locked position . there is no natural grip on the knife for a righty that can disengage that lock . I think that was what was on victorinox minds. not 2% of the knife buying public who are leftys . they would rather make sure that 98% of their customers don't accidentally cut their fingers off by putting a lock on it that requires more effort. if a lefty bares down on this knife and puts his thumb on that lock he coukd be going to the er. opening could save your life so it should be convenient and easy . but closure that is convenient and easy is dangerous. so I'm sorry leftys , its wishful thinking to think a multimillion dollar international company would cater to leftys by making their whole 111mm knife line left handed. im sorry but scissor companies are the only ones who care about you guys. mic drop
