Max, I spend most of the day on one of these yesterday at Bwl mx chasing a lad on a Crf450, it freaked him out and made me feel my Mojo has returned- lol. My pal with his '01 Built couldn't get away from it. I've not passed so many riders for yrs. Feels right, my savings may be going to the KTM bank!
Nice, been bleeding orange since 2003. As a journalist I was honored to be approached by KTM to test their entire 2001 mx line, including the factory 250 of John Junkyard Dowd.
All the bikes were amazing but the 250 blew me away. I had ridden 250 2T for several years then went on to 500cc monsters and that factory bike was the first 250 I'd ever ridden that could pull a 3rd gear start with NO issues at all. 😳😳

2 years later Dan Salamone, KTM regional manager, says the new, 2003 250 had 58 HP. I thought I heard him wrong and said you mean 48?
He says No I mean 58. I've had that bike since. And while this machine no doubt handles better, for me and riders whos racing license don't say PRO, my bike would give this new one a run for the money in power. It had more HP and was faster than KTMs own 450F of the same year. It took almost a decade of them detuning the 250 and technology improving the 450F for the 03 250SX to finally be beaten.
And the build quality of the KTM line is on par with no other brand. KTM (Husky) are the Mercedes of dirt bikes, anything else and you're paying Mercedes price for a glorified Honda.

I race a 2001 CR250 and Im always battling these bikes or getting past by them. Everyone tells me go Orange. Really like price point of GasGas mc250 though. These bikes are hard to beat!
It would be interesting to see the 5th round race of one rider at KTM SX250 and Yamaha YZ250. And then compare the time...

Really wanna see 250 sx vs 450f. I am tired of 450f modern thing as I heard 4 stroke is better for supercross and motocross track. It annoys we need the true 2 stroke man and fully in shape against 4 stroke modern thing

And yet the yz makes better power at the top end and costs less...

Hydar Rahmati Yamaha only changed frame and suspension, they are still using pretty much the same motor from the late 90’s.
A lot of people really love Yamaha like u probably do but the 250sx is a better bike it just comes down to that.

I love the buzz of the 2 stroke wicked fun!!! But fuck me they shit them selves alot easier then the 4 strokes. I had a ktm 125 and was alot more fun then my 450 4 stroke.

Buy and build a cheap 2005/6 YZ 250 and throw everything at it, restyle tank & plastics, DEP pipe, V force reeds, Smart Carb, suspension fine tuned for rider, engine race tuned, take it to a track in stock form and take it back when blinged out! Compare against a stock KTM 2020 250 or even a 2020 YZ 250, that would be original and interesting content!! Maybe even add the upgrades bit by bit on the day to see the lap times falling??

@@grkomperda1384 Hmmmm ok and what would that show? To me 4 strokes have added their bit to the overall decline in MX popularity due to associated costs, also loss of spirit in the sport between battling MX dads helping each other out changing pistons etc in between races, when have you seen that done with 4 strokes?? People don't need big budgets to ride/race a two stroke MX, a lot of test riders say they prefer riding 2 strokes but have been limited to 125 against 250, when racing gets back to it let the 2 strokes and 4 stroke riders work out what is best when CC for CC is put up against each other, to me it is not about that! If 999lazer does a cheap build and then add to it bit by bit it helps show the average joe what can be done on a relatively low budget and also that you don't have to spend thousands in one hit to improve on what you already have, although it could easily be shown in a days filming on the track it could be shown over a few weeks so they get value out of the project! A YZ 250 05/06 can be purchased for reasonable prices, I think it would make great content!! I think lots will agree
Had a built yz250, now have a 18 250sx. The yz with a good amount of money in it was MAYBE as good as my ktm was bone stock, throw some personal tweaks at the ktm and it is far beyond what the yz could of been IMO two different worlds you can really
