Great review. The value of the garage area cannot be overstated, having a place out of the weather where you can stand and strech, do basic camp chores or even sit and relax makes a long motorcycle trip much more relaxing and makes me way less likely to get a motel
We camped with the Loner Rider Moto tent in a terrible thunderstorm once. Howling wind and rain but the tent took it in it's stride. Heartedly recommend it.
Great video. 1st one to show bike in the tent - which is what it's for - and have it falling away from you when you're all tucked up at night so you don't get crushed!. Great video fella
brilliant insight into the tent mate. 2 things I love about this tent is the simple pole structure 1 way in and thats literally it saves running round the other side making sure it hooks in when it's windy and going everywhere. 2nd thing I love about this is you can still gain access two inside the tent even when the motorcycle is in. simple but perfect 👌 nice work James and kera.
Great product. A bit pricey but I do not mind pay a premium for quality. The only thing stopping me from buying one is that BIG Lone Rider logo on the side. That is like a giant sized advertisement that says COME ROB ME !!!!

I am going with either the Redverz Atacama 2 ( Which is about the same price and functionality as the Lone Rider) OR the Vuze Moto Tent. If I can find the Vuze here in the USA. I think it is more of a EU product.
Greetings fellow motocamper. You don't need to take the inner tent out. I've got to grips with mine now. Just put 2 pegs in at bedroom end then 1 pole at a time or you might stand on one. Then walk it forward & then peg the garage end 2 ropes. I've also learned to leave one side still pegged when taking it down in the wind. Awesome tent. There is however room for improvement. Enjoy dude. Good vid.
@@MidlandsMotorbikers I have mine a couple of years and as far as I remember the inner tent was already attached as I've never unattached it! haven't used it to store the bike in but I really got it as I got fed up not being able to get dressed standing up! I still have my Slumit Cub II for 1 night camping trips but festivals etc I love the Lone Rider (ABR this year was like a lone rider tent convention!). I still get asked if I've planning permission when I start to put it up....
I don't know if I would keep the bike in the garage area, but looks great for setting up a couple of chairs and hanging out when it's raining, would put another tarp down in that area and makes a great place to take off your muddy gear before getting in the tent as well.
The 2nd review I've watched on this tent, I can't deny it's a well made tent, the garage seems a weird concept? Definitely a great living area though, for me it's way overpriced for what it is, possibly aimed at "all the gear no idea" crew lol, I'll stick to my 6 year old HiGear Aura 3 for now, £150 I can stand up in the bedroom and living area, but it is 10kg,but who cares I'm on a bike not hiking, thanks for sharing, Goyts Clough quarry nice spot for the video as well.

Thanks for sharing. I'm just surprised that it doesn't pack down smaller and lighter. As a big fan of Henry Shires' Tarptents (30D double silicone-coated ripstop nylon), I can only surmise that the MotoTent is a much heavier material than necessary. A Tarptent Double Rainbow, all in (tent, poles, extra poles, stakes, bag) is under 3 lbs. This MotoTent is huge! Love the vestibule, but does a real biker REALLY need to have is bike in the tent? Space better utilized by the humanoids.
Fair comment but this weekend I used it and the extra space was luxury especially for changing, storage and re-sorting my gear. Is it needed - No Is it appreciate - HELL YES
There is always a trade off between weight and durability, I would rather it be a little heavier and know it's probably the last one I will ever need if you take care of it. A lighter material will not be as durable as a heavier weight one.
@@myronhorvathsk Define "durable." I hiked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail (2,200 miles). Turned around when I got to Maine and walked all the way back to Georgia. That's a year. For approximately 300 nights, I lived in that lightweight tent. Still have it. No rips. No tears. No holes. People who need "durability" must be the same people who have holes in their drywall and say they need cement walls.

Just got one and set it up in the yard today for first time. Have no intention of ever putting my bike in it (most of time I travel on a trike) but do love, as you said, a place that can stand up straight getting dressed or such and also if raining, a great place to sit in and read or cook or what ever. Also, with the canopy up, a great place to be able to sit in the shade when it's hot out. Also being double walled and all, it's really a 4 season tent! I did think the ground cloth was for the garage area tho?! There's also great rings for hooking it on in the garage area. Guess I might have to have two ground tarps. LOL
Personally I think I will always use the ground sheet under the sleep quarters of the tent to give added protection against ground moisture. They sell them separate though so if you wanted one for the garage portion you could do both then.
Great review :-) I bought mine on the Black friday sale in november. So now I just waiting for the snow to melt sometime in April so I can test it. I won't park the bike inside, but use it as a sitting room and have my chair and table there. And it will be great to be able to stand up and get dressed, cause my body is no longer as flexible as it was forty years ago. Started to be real uncomfotable to crawl on my hands and knees out of my old tent just to get dressed.
Exactly - this is why we love this tent! We don’t part the bike inside much anyway but use it as an extension of the tents living area - great to have some chairs inside it and get changed like you say!
Good review! I bought one of these also, but haven't been able to try it yet though because it's January in Saskatchewan Canada. I'm up to my ass in snow and the ground is frozen so you wouldn't get pegs in the ground😂. I think your obsession with the garage area is a guy thing.....I love that concept too! Mine is going with me on a 3 week holiday this summer so it will get a good test then. As far as the size and weight I think it's a great trade off though. I just weighed mine in its bag with 2 awning kits in there too and it was 16lbs or 7.3kg. Being able to get the bike sheltered is also great for those occasions when you have to set up camp and it's pouring outside, at least then when you get it up and the bike ran inside you can get to the rest of the things you need without being in the rain, I am in my mid 50's so I appreciate some creature comforts and features. From everything I have seen and read about it, it was a well thought out tent. I am looking forward to spring when this white junk is gone so I can try setting it up.

Taking me from home to the furthest point north you can go by road in Canada on the shore of the Arctic Ocean and then a bit of a detour further south along the west coast before heading east back towards home in Saskatchewan.
that ground sheet with the SOS on it is a great idea... however I would have thought it would have been better a bright orange colour to get it seen via helicopter ...still a decent idea, that more should follow... Great looking tent as well...

In all the years of travelling with this tent, I never once used the GARAGE. Your bike is in the way. Why would you waste your living space for your bike and crawl into your tent when you can walk upright and in comfort. So funny 😂
Good film and a great demonstration but I've got two big issues with this set up. Firstly the price - £460! My Berghaus Grampian 3-man is a nice, geodesic tent which I paid £180 for from Go Outdoors online. That's heading for a third of the Moto price. Secondly: why the hell do you want to get your bike into the tent? If it's a wet weekend the chances are you've been riding for hours through the rain anyway (or will do the following day). It's going to be in the way right next to you and needs careful handling or it's going to end up on its side. The facility to stand up to change clothes in the garage area is an advantage but you're paying a lot for the privilege.
I hope you turned off the ignition after that side stand dismount, there are a lot of people that do this as well as using the kill switch, as most motorcycles have electric fuel pumps the risk of a flat battery is that you usually cant clutch start the engine.
I like this tent but 2 things I don't like about it from what I see here is it's pretty massive to be packing on a motorcycle and the inner tent walls appear to be sagging in way too much...is there no tie-backs for the inner walls to keep the walls from sagging inside of the sleeping area?
Hi and thanks for the comment, The video was my first time setting up the tent and so you are right it wasn’t the best set up, however I can confirm when the tent is correctly set up it has no saggy points and is a very sturdy and strong tent

Hi Adrian, as long as the guide ropes are secured down the tent deals with the adverse weather conditions surprisingly well - the height of the tent is not an issue as the core structure and strength using the tough strong poles is perfect

You have no idea, mine goes up in 5 minutes, this is his first time, the inner tent stays in, after the first set up. Absolutely set it up day after day, the garage is so useful , cooking keeping things dry, makes for a great sitting area.
If its cold and wet, getting t'bike in sharpish whilst it's still hot can also help get clothes dry and you warm. The weight thing is down to what bike you have I guess, and what it will carry.
I have tried and tested this in many conditions now. Rain, Sun, cold and hot, the ventilation seems to be great in the heat and the high top allows for a nice escape of heat. There is no condensation I’ve noticed at all even in extreme temperatures
It’s always going to be a compromise for making a tent of any size….. add size = add weight This is the perfect dimensions for the majority of bikes, and if it can fit a mighty GSA in with full luggage then I’m impressed
@@MidlandsMotorbikers 1.5 inches on each side could do wonders and not add that much weight and packed size^^ In the real world as a viking from Norway, I never used a tent, not eve in winter. I bring 1 tarp, some rope. super thick 3cm closed foam mat and my sleeping bag. Maybe if it was deep snow I would bring a secondary small tarp to have under the mat. A few Kg, maybe 10-11? less then 25 lbs.

its certainly not a wild camping tent,,,it would take to long to pitch,,, I prefer free standing tents,,,, also carry such a tent means less room on the bike for the little luxcurys like chair and tables and camp bed,,,no to my eye its to big,,, maybe its ok as a base tent..
Nice big tent if you need room for a few people but ill never understand why the hell you would want the bike in the tent , just take a cheap light bike cover to keep weather and thieving eyes off
Consider it as a place to be able to pack the bike up or unload the bike away from the elements or even as a place to use as a garage area for ant repairs etc?
In my opinion, it is not a good tent for a long roadtrip. Because, it is too big once folded and heavy, too long to set up and disassemble if like me you plan to assemble/disassemble every night, a bit expenssive too. The " garage " spot is useless and make it too complicated/heavy. If you need a shelter for the rain just bring a tarp, but in most campsite you won't need to. Why not if you plan to use it for a few days the same spot. But still, no offense but, your random cheapest 2 persons hiker tent in your local camping shop is far more practicle, small, light and very easy to use. Thx for the review.
I can get my tent up in five minutes, no time-lapse photography needed. Why put a motorcycle in a tent anyway? They are generally fairly water-resistant. If you're that bothered about your bike getting wet, just take a lightweight cover! So many 'experts' on UA-cam. The strings holding down your tent are 'guy' ropes, not 'guide' ropes. I wouldn't fancy my chances with this tent in a strong wind either. Not impressed. Ride safe. Love and peace.
there are the tents that go up like an umbrella... but I doubt it would be any use for bike travel due to weight and spaces inside if you'd like an area for your bike as well...
They normally come with the inner tent already in, and you leave it in. Don’t understand your comment, I can set mine up in less than 5 minutes in wind.
We would love to know why you feel this isn’t suitable for purpose…. I have since used this tent many times in multiple different locations, settings, climates and weathers and it has and still exceeds our expectations? What do you feel it is missing?
You don’t understand because you’re close minded, not just a garage, sitting area, cooking area, out of the wind and rain, don’t have to park your bike in there. Good lord, think🤷♂️

Pretty much what I was thinking.If I were to go on a bike camping trip the last thing I would be taking would that humungous weighty tent.
You have no idea, mine goes up in 5 minutes, this is his first time, the inner tent stays in, after the first set up. Absolutely set it up day after day, the garage is so useful , cooking keeping things dry, makes for a great sitting area.

Honestly it isn’t weighty at all it packs down surprisingly well and can be strapped to the panniers if needed
If its cold and wet, getting t'bike in sharpish whilst it's still hot can also help get clothes dry and you warm. The weight thing is down to what bike you have I guess, and what it will carry.
Being this is not a traditional dome tent with outer rain fly over mesh tent top, how does this tent do with condensation inside?
I have tried and tested this in many conditions now. Rain, Sun, cold and hot, the ventilation seems to be great in the heat and the high top allows for a nice escape of heat. There is no condensation I’ve noticed at all even in extreme temperatures

that's a tight squeeze... should have been a bit wider for longer bikes.
It’s always going to be a compromise for making a tent of any size….. add size = add weight
This is the perfect dimensions for the majority of bikes, and if it can fit a mighty GSA in with full luggage then I’m impressed

In the real world as a viking from Norway, I never used a tent, not eve in winter. I bring 1 tarp, some rope. super thick 3cm closed foam mat and my sleeping bag. Maybe if it was deep snow I would bring a secondary small tarp to have under the mat. A few Kg, maybe 10-11? less then 25 lbs.

Stand alone tents can be moved after pitching them. When your at a hotel or cabin you'll need a bike cover anyway. I don't see the appeal ?

its certainly not a wild camping tent,,,it would take to long to pitch,,, I prefer free standing tents,,,, also carry such a tent means less room on the bike for the little luxcurys like chair and tables and camp bed,,,no to my eye its to big,,, maybe its ok as a base tent..
Luckily they do the ADV tent much more suitable now

Nice big tent if you need room for a few people but ill never understand why the hell you would want the bike in the tent , just take a cheap light bike cover to keep weather and thieving eyes off
Consider it as a place to be able to pack the bike up or unload the bike away from the elements or even as a place to use as a garage area for ant repairs etc?
Now if only it were affordable to the average working man
But a cheaper tent like I did before and I found it never lasted….. this really is a tent for a lifetime
In my opinion, it is not a good tent for a long roadtrip. Because, it is too big once folded and heavy, too long to set up and disassemble if like me you plan to assemble/disassemble every night, a bit expenssive too. The " garage " spot is useless and make it too complicated/heavy. If you need a shelter for the rain just bring a tarp, but in most campsite you won't need to. Why not if you plan to use it for a few days the same spot. But still, no offense but, your random cheapest 2 persons hiker tent in your local camping shop is far more practicle, small, light and very easy to use. Thx for the review.

Take less… be happy;) that tent is enormous in packing size and weight. Use a tarp, and bivy.

I can get my tent up in five minutes, no time-lapse photography needed. Why put a motorcycle in a tent anyway? They are generally fairly water-resistant. If you're that bothered about your bike getting wet, just take a lightweight cover!
So many 'experts' on UA-cam. The strings holding down your tent are 'guy' ropes, not 'guide' ropes.
I wouldn't fancy my chances with this tent in a strong wind either. Not impressed.

there are the tents that go up like an umbrella... but I doubt it would be any use for bike travel due to weight and spaces inside if you'd like an area for your bike as well...
They normally come with the inner tent already in, and you leave it in. Don’t understand your comment, I can set mine up in less than 5 minutes in wind.
Good? It’s nothing more than proof that using UA-cam influencers can sell overpriced products that are not fit for purpose.
We would love to know why you feel this isn’t suitable for purpose…. I have since used this tent many times in multiple different locations, settings, climates and weathers and it has and still exceeds our expectations? What do you feel it is missing?

Humongous pack size it's like a family car camping tent kind of ridiculous to call it a motorcycle specific tent when it's way too big.
It’s not for all bikes but fits great on my GSA
Why do these so call adventure riders all ways have brand new gear and not spek of dirt on them amateur's
Interesting observation, however maybe we are meticulously cleaning and looking after our gear…. Just a thought lol
