Thank you it worked, i was trying to be gentle with it it wouldn't pry open... and today i applied a little more force and it started to rotate and now works flawlessly! Thanks
Worked a treat. Thank you! Had to reset column afterwards; disconnect/reconnect battery then cycle motor through full range of motion (including the “extra” bit of motion at top and bottom. Saved me replacing the motor.
I hear my motor wanting to go, but my steering column will not move in and out, and up and down. I can’t adjust it at all. I see the washer you’re talking about, should I still try to do your method? Will it fix the in and out problem too?
FYI, I only had to remove the 1 plastic piece under/in front of the gauges on my 750Li (E66). Then worked on it looking through the windshield. But my washer wouldn't spin easily. Had to douse in 3-in-1 oil/lube, then used adjustable needle nose locking pliers to squeeze & turn it like a 16th of a turn. Finally allowed the switch to make it go up & down like normal - all fixed! 😁 The design flaw that causes this... the car automatically tilts the wheel all the way up & in for ez driver access. So u either have to tilt down a hair every time u get out, or add a drop of oil to the washer every few years, or reprogram the system with a computer & bmw tools to NOT do that (ncs expert/inpa/edbias etc) Or, eventually it's gonna get stuck.

This worked on my 530i, thank you. I figured the motor itself was still functional because I could hear it wanting to move. Glad I tried this!
Did your column move in and out? Mine doesn’t move at all but I hear the motor trying to go but then stops
