As a designer I noticed this small change in hue and thought i was going crazy or my screen was bugging lol. I understand them wanting to update their brand after some time, especially the full bright red to something less intense, but yeah its weird they did this without updating their brand guide, truly weird and chaotic.
Less intense? For me it's more intense, as I'm very nearsighted I always have glasses on/lenses in and my eyes can't really see the blue hue in the magenta so I see it on the bottom of the logo. From the comments I see multiple people have problems with it.
ironically, everything close to magenta is exhausting and bad for your eyes so i dont get why theyre moving towards it.. maybe trying to make it more appealing for kids or something

This bothers me, not because it’s pointless, but because it breaks the “awesome” easter egg. For those who don’t know, before this “””””update””””” typing out “awesome” on your keyboard would cause the progress bar and other red accents to strobe in various colors. The altered progress bar no longer does this.
when i first saw the pink i thought i had triggered the "awesome" thing by accident and it had glitched somehow and i was very disappointed to see that it just didnt work at all :(

@@MeemahSN according to your logic, the higher ups didn't choose the feature but they approved it which means features aren't mutually exclusive, and both teams can work on different things at the same time, without going through a "tunnel" where each feature has to be approved before the next. for all we know they might be working on the security issues but we have less information around it because design = marketing, so it is going to be more promoted compared to random tech issues

Yeah this change is just to try and distract everyone from talking about the rising advertisements. Not a coincidence they'd make a big, eye catching change most commentary UA-camrs are going to talk about right as they increase their advertising to unbearable levels. It's how everyone forgot the SSSniperwolf drama so quickly. UA-cam is good at this.
Its not that big of a deal. we have much bigger problems to worry about with youtube, like its growing advertisement problem. A slight color change is the least of our worries.

No, that’s just how designers talk. Typically something specific to the brand other than actual straight red is a good idea to have, it creates a more memorable look than something someone off the street could make with canva. And I could understand if UA-cam changed the red to something more nuanced, but honestly this gradient is kind of garbage
Yeah the real reason is they did it for the same reason people make shorts with disinformation and such. People talk about it and it increases engagement cheaply.
What's even worse is that they now broke a famous easter egg, if you type "awesome" on a video, it will flash colors but now only 1-7 pixels will only show depending on what size you use on the website

Agreed, adding a slight magenta gradient on the pure or ig "UA-cam" red can help distinguish the little red dot from the rest of the play bar. Not only that, but using magenta instead of something like crimson or orange allows for the brightness of red to be maintained visually. Making pure red lighter just makes a salmon kinda color, but adding a bit of that magenta gives it that oomf.

I also noticed a few more things : The progress bar in ads is still "youtube red" or normal. The "awesome" easter egg now does not work for the progress bar and only affects the subtitle button, if subtitles are on. (Typing awesome while a video is playing used to make the progress bar flash rgb colors)
Honestly I like this subtle pink. Looks really nice on the video bar especially. Though it's hilarious how they technically are in breach of their own guidelines now.

The problem is not the color they changed it to. The problem is that they actually DID change the color, because that means that UA-cam is wasting the revenue they gain from me watching ads.
Changing UI is a BIG no-no in webmaking. Almost all the time, you will piss off your entire user base if you change your user interface. This includes changing colors of things.

UA-cam doesn't have to follow their own branding rules, but, imagine if someone took a screenshot or copied the image that they are providing on this site, to use for their website or for something else. A person who directly uses the magenta-infused UA-cam logo in a news article or anywhere else is technically breaking those said rules they haven't updated. No one is going to care but it's just something I pointed out that's funny.

Since 2005 there have been multiple changes to UA-cam's logo and layout and this is probably the most minor change so far. I don't see what the big deal is.

I swear to god, the change is so subtle that when I first saw it, i legit thought my screen was broken. Then I thought my eyes were broken. UA-cam, please, save me the mental fatigue and say something.
I actually really like this but maybe its just because i really like that part of the color wheel. I think it spices things up a lot and I think it's an improvement. BTW the loading bar at the top when you reload also has this change!
I've asked a friend of mine who has a masters in Psychology about this and she told me her best guess was that UA-cam may be trying to artificially inflate watch time (albeit marginally) As the gradually changing color may be more "satisfying" and less boring, while also potentially creating a sense of expectation of a (very minor) reward, that being the change in color. Something like "don't quit the video yet, it's not fully pink". Pretty silly overall, but I can totally picture UA-cam doing this
they also removed the cool feature where you would type "amazing" and the red bar would flicker different colors now only the hd on the setting bar flickers :(

Thank you for making video straightforward unlike those 30 minute videos. I think UA-cam changing their logo color shouldn't really be a concern I kind of think it looks better honestly and the slide bar too, I like how it transitions from red to magenta.
I usually make longer videos because UA-cam prefers them, UA-cam cannot select any other video to prioritize to show other than this because despite the hundreds of millions using this platform, I am the only one other than 3-4 other people who published a video on the new color of the platform. There is no other videos to show for this topic. Seriously.

When I saw the color change I didn't think I was colorblind and my brain was just like: "oh they changed the color" I feel kinda meh about the new UA-cam color.

No, that’s just how designers talk. Typically something specific to the brand other than actual straight red is a good idea to have, it creates a more memorable look than something someone off the street could make with canva. And I could understand if UA-cam changed the red to something more nuanced, but honestly this gradient is kind of garbage

Agreed, adding a slight magenta gradient on the pure or ig "UA-cam" red can help distinguish the little red dot from the rest of the play bar. Not only that, but using magenta instead of something like crimson or orange allows for the brightness of red to be maintained visually. Making pure red lighter just makes a salmon kinda color, but adding a bit of that magenta gives it that oomf.

The progress bar in ads is still "youtube red" or normal.
The "awesome" easter egg now does not work for the progress bar and only affects the subtitle button, if subtitles are on. (Typing awesome while a video is playing used to make the progress bar flash rgb colors)

the progress bar looks really cool. i just dont see why this is a problem. it looks cool. its pointless but its not actively harmful and its such an easy change that its not taking resources away from anything. also to imply that they're doing something wrong by not following their guidelines on THEIR OWN LOGO is just kinda funny. like its their logo they can do whatever they want with it. the guidelines are for everyone else since its not everyone else's logo.
UA-cam doesn't have to follow their own branding rules, but, imagine if someone took a screenshot or copied the image that they are providing on this site, to use for their website or for something else. A person who directly uses the magenta-infused UA-cam logo in a news article or anywhere else is technically breaking those said rules they haven't updated.

I've asked a friend of mine who has a masters in Psychology about this and she told me her best guess was that UA-cam may be trying to artificially inflate watch time (albeit marginally)
As the gradually changing color may be more "satisfying" and less boring, while also potentially creating a sense of expectation of a (very minor) reward, that being the change in color. Something like "don't quit the video yet, it's not fully pink".

Thank you for making video straightforward unlike those 30 minute videos. I think UA-cam changing their logo color shouldn't really be a concern I kind of think it looks better honestly and the slide bar too, I like how it transitions from red to magenta.
I usually make longer videos because UA-cam prefers them, UA-cam cannot select any other video to prioritize to show other than this because despite the hundreds of millions using this platform, I am the only one other than 3-4 other people who published a video on the new color of the platform. There is no other videos to show for this topic.
