Garrick fishing || Live bait traces, lures and what to look for when targeting them...

could you explain how you work the lures. specifically the paddletails. I know with kob its slow jerks and letting it bump on the bottom or just slow straight retrieve but what do you do for garrick as to my knowledge they like it faster but I can't seem to catch them. I only get follows and no hits

You work I exactly as you've explained with paddle tails. Unfortunately with garrick, sometimes they do just chase but don't bite. I've had it plenty times where they have chased my plugs and iron candy spoons but never eat it. Generally changing the retrieve up slightly when they chase, ie. Wind faster, stop winding for a second then wind again, slow down the retrieve etc can sometimes work better.
With your iron candies, usually just throw them in, let them sink till they hit the floor and you can either A) wind as fast as you can the entire way (snoek like this) B) have a medium retrieve or slow C) while winding give a pause and a slow jerk a few times. Just play around with the retrieve. Plugs you just wind straight on the top of the water. The faster you wind, the more it bounces on the top of the water surface. Sometimes the slower retrieve is a bit better but you will have to just play around and find what works best for you.

How long do you let the garrick eat before setting the hook?

I'd say with a live bait, let him feed and take a bit of string for a couple seconds before you strike. With a circle you dont need to hit hard. One or two solid bumps and its in. With a plug or paddle tail they general jump on instantly and the hook generally sets on the blowup
