    New York City is the best. Hong Kong is fading. Shenzhen will never catch up, no matter how much money the Chinese communist party wastes building empty glass towers in Shenzhen. The city center itself is nearly always empty. You build office buildings to match demand. New York City is the financial capital of the world, therefore necessary for it to have office buildings. Shenzhen apparently has built even more buildings, but what office space does Shenzhen need? Aside from some Chinese tech firms, Shanghai itself it the business center of China. Why does Shenzhen need more buildings? It doesn’t!

    I first lived in NYC before finally settled in Toronto with my family. Not gonna lie, i was mesmerized. I came to America in 1999! I was 9 years old, China felt like a big countryside when I first came to NYC. The high rises, holy hell.
    Ok, I'm being repetitive. Then 911 happened, My fam and I relocated to Toronto and Toronto felt like a little town in comparison to NYC.
    Fast forward, I go back to China once every 2-3 years, China never cease to amaze me with everything. Better accept the fact that China is the future!
    I do have to say, NYC is the postcard of America. Whether you hate or love the city. People used to chase that American Dream because of NYC!

      My wife and I love New York. It is far more exciting for a tourist compared to Toronto where we now live. But you are right, Toronto and NYC never changes and beginning to look tired and old. Hong Kong needs to improve its living conditions but no one can deny its energy and beautiful geography. China is definitely the future. So many cities in China look green and beautiful especially the downtown areas. The housing is way better than HK.

    I spent a lot a time in NYC, was there on a near weekly basis for a few years. While I do enjoy quite a bit about it - I love Brooklyn - I think it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of public facilities. Any tourist looking for available, safe, clean public restrooms will be in a for a rude awakening. And while transit is NYC is good by North American cities, it pales to European and East Asian countries. On top of that, Hong Kong has just mesmerizing natural beauty around it - the mountains of Lantau are magical and feel a world away from city life, let alone one of the world's largest cities. So while New York is cool, Hong Kong is just breathtaking.

    One additional interesting piece of data: According to an CNN 2018 article, HK was on top of the list for worldwide life expectancy in 2016. (In 2018 it was 84.63 years, a 0.29% increase from 2017.) Based on an WSJ (2019) article, the life-expectancy of older New Yorkers is 81.2 years, roughly 2.5 years longer than the national average and up from the reported life expectancy of 80.9 years in 2010. On the ground view of subways, airport, train stations would be interesting comparison too.

    I prefer NY over HK anyday. NY is iconic and legendary. Every landmark in NY is world class. NY is not just the financial center of the world, but also THE cultural center. 1 out of 3 movies have scenes in NY. HK looks more modern but that's it tbh.

      @@leefromnyc yes because it’s newer. NYC has been developed for over 2 centuries, so it’s infrastructure is definitely older and requires more maintenance but it’s vintage, iconic, and legendary. There is a charm to NY’s bridges, subways, and buildings. HK looks new just like Dubai but no character IMO.

    New York, sentimental, romantic, never sleeps, classic, those days reading books on the lawns in Central Park, seeing Bob Dylan in concert, the Roots, Nick Cave, Coldplay, having a chat with Howard Stern on the street, saying good morning to Robert De Niro. New York, I do miss you!

    Team new york,but is it a skyscraper challenge? Hong Kong wins
    (518 skyscrapers above 150 meters )7829 skyscrapers above 100 meters for Hong Kong
    (300 skyscrapers above 150 meters ) 6472 skyscrapers above 100 meters for new york
    7000 high rise of 35 meters to new york
    9000 for Hong Kong
    Hong Kong 16:829 high-rise (From 10 floors upwards)
    New York =13472 high rise (From 10 floors upwards)
    Anyway, they should be more but I have not found data that say the number of high-rise from 36 meters up to 99/100 meters , because 7000 for New York were only those of 35 meters and 6472 high-rise/skyscrapers They started from 101 meters upwards )
    New York is building 20 skyscrapers above 150 meters
    Hong Kong is building 29 skyscrapers above 150 meters
    New York regarding height
    1= 546 meters
    2= 473 meters
    3= 443 meters
    4= 435 meters
    5= 427 meters
    6= 426 meters
    Hong Kong
    1= 484 meters
    2= 416 meters
    2= 374 meters
    4= 367 meters
    5= 346 meters
    6= 320 meters
