Hey, being in one's sixties is not sad! What a life it has been! I saw the DC5 in 1966--how can that not be great! Wouldn't trade what I've seen and experienced for all the youth in the world.

We where the opening band for The Dave Clark 5 at a Boston Garden concert in 1966. We where called The Kastawys.
Mike and all the guy's in the band where gentlemen in every respect of the word.
We had a wonderful and memorable night entertaining the 27,000 or so fans.
    Truly the good old days.

Did DC5 play live or lip sync?

@@JohnMiddletonBunny No they played live. They where a dance band in London before they made it big ,so they knew what they where doing. I was the drummer so I wanted to see if and what Dave was playing. He was playing live as well , but not using his bass drum much. Too bad they are all gone except Dave.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Like others, the DC5 were part of my early musical background and I still enjoy listening to them on the occasion. It seems impossible to find any video evidence, though, that they played live for the television. It's good to know that they were a rock and roll force.

The Dave Clark Five frequently excelled at instrumentals: On The Move, All Night Long, etc. And Hold On is right up there with those highlights of their catalog. Dave Clark and Lenny Davidson absolutely soar here in their respective roles as drummer and lead guitarist.

Growing up, besides the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five were My second favorite. If you think about it, they lasted as long as the Beatles together.

Slightly longer, actually. The Dave Clark Five turned in a fantastic cover of Neil Young's Southern Man in 1971, and released a couple more singles after that. They never disappointed.

No, it's cut from one of those "concert videos" (films with around five songs) that have been around since the earliest days of sound film. From the Twenties to the Fifties, they were often included in cinema programmes as "shorts" - but when TV took over, they mostly got buried.
Nonetheless, they continued to get made, right through to the Eighties, even after "pop videos" had taken over. And even those bigger-budget films of single hits go right back to the Twenties - then called "soundies".

Actually, this clip came from an English TV special called "Hold On It's The Dave Clark Five" with guest stars Lulu and Richard Chamberlain (TVs' Doctor Kildare at the time.)

I just saw this was shot in 1967. To think if any of these dancers are still alive they now have pear-shaped figures, have had hip replacements, and even walk with canes and walkers.
