    Unboxing new Gretsch Electromatic 5420TG guitar in Cadillac Green with demo and first impressions. This is a very nice guitar! I recorded the audio with a Zoom H4n and the 5420 is plugged into my Fender 64 Princeton Custom amp. Slapback delay is provided by an old Boss DM3 analog delay. Thanks for watching!

    I’ve had an identical guitar for 18 months - same colour, same model. I play it everyday and its been flawless. Sounds great, stays in tune, and has not acquired any buzzes or faults. A great instrument. I play a bit of jazz, r’n’b, and some rockabilly; funnily enough you play Folsom Prison Blues with exactly the same feel and rhythm as I do. Enjoy!

    Great guitar. I grabbed a 5420TG59 from Sweetwater at GearFest back in 2018 and dragged it back from Ft Wayne to CT on the train. Awesome sounding guitar. Own a couple Gretsch's and they all sound amazing. Enjoy!

    Great video; I agree with you on all points. I have the G5420TG-OS 50S LTD, which you won't see too many of as it's a limited edition, but essentially, it's the same as yours. I don't play mine anywhere near enough; I have a review of it online. Gretsch guitars are fantastic guitars.

    I have ordered a G5420TG in black this week and should arrive early next weeks. Doesn't seem to be any Cadillac Greens left in Europe. But the black looks really cool. Your review is for me the best I've seen. Thanks very much. I have bought a few Gretches and being located in the middle of nowhere I always have them sent as the nearest guitar centres are 3+ hours away. But unlike the other big names I have ordered I have never had (touch wood) any problems with Gretsch. I've had both Japanese and Korean and the quality of both must make some of the big names blush.

Saw it for sale interstate and ended up working about half an hour away for a couple of months lol needless to say first day off I was there at the shop as it opened haha made up this is so well made and those filtertron pick ups give such a rich sound. I got an FSR Caddy Green 5420 ten years ago. Mine has chrome fittings and silver plate. That looks really nice with the gold. Mine was the same - super low action, dead straight neck.
    The 'Electro.' logo doesn't bother me. Bound head would have been nice, and I think the F holes are painted, not bound. I can live without the pinned bridge, in fact I prefer not having it - I double side taped mine.
    Ten years on... still a spectacular guitar. Finally decided to 'upgrade' to TVJ Classics, and do the pots and caps while it's apart, though I've never thought there was anything lacking in the sound. Just waiting for TVJ to get the p'ups sent over to the UK dealer. Might replace the bridge at some point, don't really like the tunomatic from an aesthetics viewpoint.

    I went looking for 5420 in Cadillac Green and my journey led me to a 135th Anniversary 5420 which is a cherry metallic on the face with casino gold on the back and sides. Great guitar for the money! Agreed on the fret ends. They are soooo smooth. Stays in tune after using the Bigsby. The construction and quality are outstanding for a $900 guitar.

      @@hoganshideout The 135 anniversary is called G6118T-135, (not 6120). I was looking for a Fairlane blue G5420T but when seeing it in the store the blue felt way to bright/light blue. In 2015, one year before Gretsch hiked their prices by 40% on their professional series, I chose my proline Gretch G6117T-HT Double Anniversary. The difference in feel fit and finish were worlds apart with the previous Electromatics at that time imo. FF to today and I was curious to try out this exact guitar in my local Long & Mcquade retailer in Canada and wow, the fit and finish is superb! I bought it on the spot! Always try before you buy when it comes to guitars to make sure you love the radius and feel on the fretboard. My proline Gtetsch has Ebony and this has rosewood, which I like as well. Accurate review.

    I’m a guitar novice, so pardon my ignorance. My guitar instructor has a Gretsch that I like and I’m looking to buy one. I’ve been looking at the Gretsch 5655tg in Cadillac green. I can’t find much info that tells me the differences between the model numbers. The 5420 looks just like the 5655 to me. Can you point me to somewhere that explains the difference? I’ll likely never play well enough to exceed the capabilities of any of the models, but I’m just curious as to the differences. Thank you

    • @hoganshideout
      @hoganshideout  Рік тому

      Hi David. There are a lot of models, so it can get confusing. Gretsch has some info on their site that might help: www.gretschguitars.com/support/specs-explained/builds With regard to the two you mentioned, the 5420 is a full hollowbody and the 5655 has a smaller body, and a center block like a Gibson 335.

      @@aitken1965 Nice guitar! The 5420TG-59 was made in the Samick factory in North Korea -- probably one of the last 5420s made there. Production has now moved to China for current 5420s. @@aitken1965 I had my brother's 5427 for about six weeks and was able to compare it to my 5420. The trestle bracing makes the new 5420/5427 resonate a bit less maybe and that is supposed to help with feedback at higher volumes. The new FT-5E Filtertrons sound great and have bit more of the Gretsch chime compared to the Blacktop Filtertrons. The differences are subtle, but they are there. I did a video attempting to compare the two guitars that might demonstrate some of this. Both are great guitars.
