  • The year was 2020 and I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands. So.. my friends and I made a little horror film on top of a mountain. This is the story of Skinwalker.

In spite of the challenges, it was a fun movie to make. (Yes! Lori is incredible!) Nice video with some fun and valuable director’s commentary, Robert. Keep it coming.

Looks really great. Making a period film is ambitious for a low budget film.
I mean arranging those clothes, building that set, room, train, Horses is just great.
I would really recommend you to watch 'lone Ranger' (Johnny Depp flop movie) just to copy that exact image and skin tones.

Yeah, funny how bad movies are often technically amazing. Never saw that one but I'll add it to the list.

@@RobertConwaymovieguy I have one question. I have one of the best stories for low-medium budget films. But It is 60-70% based on an anonymous real story I've heard on the Internet.
Do you think I can write a movie on it without any legal consequences?

I would need to know more about the details but from what you're saying, it's more than likely fine. Urban legends are not copyrightable. The "true story" stuff is a grey area. Comedy shows and news shows can make fun of, or report on anyone. News, can be sued if they lie but comedy can't be sued for parody. Many unflattering films have been made about real people. EG Oliver Stone's "W". It's highly unlikely he had George Bush's permission. But this is why it's. gray area. Could Bush have sued Stone for an unflattering portrayal presented as a true story? On its surface, one would think he could. One common tactic I see in video games that feature characters who are drawing obvious inspiration from real or fictional people is a legal disclaimer that states that any similarities are "pure coincidence." I doubt that would hold up but then it worked for Orson Wells. But if you're going to be using real people and real names, I would consult with an entertainment attorney first. Every film released through any legitimate distributor needs to carry and errors and omissions policy for reasons like this. I would guess that a film featuring real people increases your chance of being sued so it may affect the cost of the insurance. My advice is to fictionalize just enough that you create some breathing room. @@Ash_4949

      The part I am copying
      -Happy couple
      -Wifes proposes open marriage
      -Husband is shocked and accepts
-Wife enjoys her time with the boss and Husband finds his new love
      - Wife gets jealous
      - Bcouple therapy
      - Wife confess she was cheating before they opened their marriage
      - Husband ask for the divorce
      - In the end he chooses his new partener.
I am copying some dialogues from the story cause they are that important. And developing the protagonist and other characters. Names were changed on the reddit.
This is my main story. I also have one low budget film which is my own which is my own which revolves around the story of a divorced husband fighting loneliness and regrets past mistakes and tries to improve himself.

You may very well be okay. Many unauthorized films are made. Two issues: they're not famous (famous people are basically fair game as theirs an argument of general public interest) and taking their exact words could be problematic. A lot of people do true crime but maybe that's because usually that involves a lot of public records and information. I would ask an attorney to be on the safe side. The second one is fine. @@Ash_4949

Sick ending. I'm glad you mentioned the color grading as it struck me as a bit wonky. Still looked pretty good. I'm ready to make my own cheapass movie!
