I think the water level varies a lot - when I was there I was very impressed with the skill of the captain (in a smaller boat - max about 25 passengers, no cabins) and the difficulty in maneuvering between the rocks is considerable. I am surprised that a boat as big as shown in the video can manage this fast moving river. A great experience!

i live in beautiful tropical My Khe Beach in Vietnam after living in Phuket Thailand for a few years.....i am definitely going to book one of these Mekong river trips......
A very impressive set up, and beautifully documented trip. I made this trip 25 years ago with another company in the opposite direction, with an overnight stop in their private lodge from Huai Say to Luang Prabang. Luang Say Cruises, have a very similar but smaller boat, running South from Champasak, which I first came across under construction in Luang Prabang about 30 years ago. Well worth the trip, if you ever get the chance, to see a piece of the natural unspoilt world.
For me all of Southeast Asia has the most wonderful experience and adventures there is to be had if you are considering anywhere make this the choice of holiday you’ll rate it above all your travels that I’m sure go for It people especially Cambodia as the people are amazing, enjoy all

It will hopefully be one of the highlights of our travelling life we already experienced in south-east asia. The company will be Heritage-Line. ( also doing lower mekong tours and did tours on the Irrawaddy river in myanmar,but due to obvious reasons not anymore.)

I flew into Houey Sai in July 1972 from Luang Prabang on a C-47 Passenger plane. Tried to cross the mekong, but was told the border was closed. We bribed a boatman & crossed in the dark. We didn't pay a bribe so someone was shooting at us. I think it was more to scare us. We arrived at the thai side at midnite. It was a bizarre journey.
The river continues thru Thailand and Cambodia before reaching Vietnam. There are some 100' waterfalls when the river goes thru Cambodia. This is a just a teaser. the MeKong goes on forever.
Fabulous. These South Eastern countries may not be rich, but God has gifted them unspoilt natural beauty. For those living in big cities, these places are no doubt heaven on earth.
When I was there there were two boats to choose from: the speed boat where you had to wear helmets and the slow boat which was hot and slow and you could not stand up. But you could go above to the Hot tin roof to sit for a while. That's the one i journeyed 2 days on.

I seem to recall that once Vietnam fell to the communists the rest would be like dominos. In fact all these people wanted to do was live their own lives which was a difficult enough struggle anyway without some foreign occupier. Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are amazing countries to visit and very friendly people.
Perhaps one day, since they have so much property, monks will stop sponging on the poor, and grow some of their food. Also, like the Buddha, be vegetarian!
