Brilliant video. I loved it. I have visited Phillippines many times first going there in 1982. It's a wonderful country. Filipinos are well recognised as first class seamen and the local craft are crazy fabulous. Practicality ahead of design. The smaller boats are called 'banka' or 'pump boats' and are ranked according to how many cylinders the engine has. Astonishgly fast. Trying to be smart I once paid a fisherman to take me on his banka from Bohol to Camiguin Island, a distance of about 45 miles. Quite an experience surfing for hours over an 8 foot sea and I was more than impressed watching the boat driver weaving through the troughs until he saw a good wave and then up we'd pop on to the crest to surf like crazy. Yes Filipinos.... one of the world's better people. Hoping one day the political troulbes there may be solved. Fingers crossed. (Addicted to the place... married to a Filipino too. :) )
Great to hear that. I'm from camiguin island by the way... but you were already there waaay ahead of me. I was born in 1988, you were surfing in 1982. Haha

You did a fantastic job of describing all of the operations and showing the technical details of the "mother ship" and the small boats. It was really interesting to see where a lot of the fish, that I ate while living there, came from. Kudos!

About 25 percent of all sailors on commercial ships all over the world comes from the Philippines. There are so many perhaps because the Philippines is an archipelago and Filipinos have English as one of their two official languages apart from the fact that they are hardworking, good natured and easy to get along with.
Another fun fact, if they're speaking in their native tongue it doesn't immediately means they are speaking Tagalog/Filipino. Filipinos have different language and dialects for every region, in short Filipinos won't understand each other, only if we speak Tagalog or English.
This video is so awesome!!! It’s so informative and shows that most of the boats all the sailors see at night are just friendly working boats. Great video!!

The ancient Filipinos are seafarers travelling in vessels called "balangay" an Austronesian word which means boat. The smallest political unit of the Philippines is called barangay which is from the word "balangay". The Balangay (formerly synonymous with Butuan boat) is a plank boat adjoined by a carved-out plank edged through pins and dowels. It was first mentioned in the 16th Century in the Chronicles of Pigafetta, and is known as the oldest watercraft found in the Philippines. The oldest known balangay has been carbon-dated to 320 CE. The balangay was the first wooden watercraft excavated in Southeast Asia and is evidence of early Filipino craftsmanship and their seamanship skills during pre-colonial times. The Balanghai Festival is also a celebration in Butuan, Agusan del Norte to commemorate the coming of the early migrants that settled the Philippines, on board the Balangay boats. When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they found the Filipinos living in well-organized independent villages called barangays. The name barangay originated from balangay, the Austronesian word for "sailboat"

In Philippines you can communicate with the locals even if they have limited education, unlike in other countries they don't speak English at all.
My dad was a WWII US Navy veteran who was in the Philippines after the Allies took it back from the Japanese .
Thank you to your dad. For saving philippines and giving its freedom.
Amazing content. But what’s more amazing is the Filipino fishermen being able to converse with you guys. 👍🏻
This is the kind of video that sets you apart from the rest of them, Well Done
Absolutely incredible!!! This is exactly the kind of things you hope to see sailing around the world!!!
You experience first hand how friendly filipinos are ....🇵🇭
Brilliant video.
Haha
Keep in mind that Philippines is an archipelago and its people have been sailing the vast oceans for thousands of years! It’s not as if it’s ingenious? But it’s in their blood! They know how to sail the ocean more than average westerners!!
Yes my brother true that. These westerners have no idea how long we've been sailing the Pacific ocean from Malay to Easter island.
@@ziggymarley4961 we are of the austronesian race... it's actually from madagascar to easter island... from taiwan down to new zealand...
@@arkandrada3305 I agree...but your going way back I just jumped a couple of generation to the malay race because the madagascar race is remotely found now in remote areas where there is little to NO mixing of different ethnicities at all because of isolation, compared to what it is now in southern Luzon.
@@arkandrada3305 I also believe the true mountain natives of Taiwan are the same people of our mountain tribes of Northern Luzon.
@@arkandrada3305 as a matter of fact...Malaysian, Indonesians, Polynesians and all of the Pacific Islanders...share the same #5 which is Lima and eyes which is Mata...so yes I agree totally we are all related somehow.
Born in that beautiful place & taken care of by a beautiful Filipina employed by my parents. Loveliest people I ever met.
That was nice of you to have mingled with filipino fishermen .Filipinos are happy and friendly people.
Mad respect to these hard working fishermen.
This is one of the most fascinating sailing videos I have ever seen. I lived in Manila for a couple of years in the early '90s, and love the Philippines. But I had never been exposed to these fishing operations-- they are out of sight of the landlubbers like me. You did a fantastic job of describing all of the operations and showing the technical details of the "mother ship" and the small boats. It was really interesting to see where a lot of the fish, that I ate while living there, came from. Kudos!
Did somebody notice? They can speak English so well

Precisely.
English is the common denominator of this multilingual country

One thing not notice, they speak English. An advantage

This video is so awesome!!! It’s so informative and shows that most of the boats all the sailors see at night are just friendly working boats. Great video!!
Been there many times. I went out in a little bit fishing but never the big boat. It’s amazing how simple they live and enjoy it. Most of us will work a whole life time just to live a few years like they live their entire life.
You guys are amazing!!,I’m a pilipino from Mindanao leaving now in the US , I admire the way you interact very respectful and friendly, we Pilipinos are always smiling and always find away to be happy .

Balangay is a smaller boat. They sailed the open seas on larger boats which they called “Karakoa” or another larger boat “Adyong/Lanong/Juangas”
We filipinos are austronesian and we are good sea farers..
Awesome information.
