Welcome to season 2. The show really picks up here and we learn SO much more about Xena & Gabrielle.

I like the little conflict going on here with Xena and Gabrielle in disagreeing on how they would approach the situation with Solan. It was very organic disharmony between them that made a lot of sense and showed how much that the characters are both their own people with their own opinions that differ from each other. Resolved it just as organically too. That’s good writing for you.
Gabrielle’s hero-worship is either lessening or she just realizes that she’s not a go-along-to-get-along kind of gal. Not even with Xena. Just makes the character all the more dynamic as a main character.
Appropriate now she had leading credit which was something Lucy Lawless fought for by the way. She couldn’t understand why she was the only one in the main titles when Renee O’Connor had just as much screen-time as she did all throughout Season 1.
She was very adamant that if they’re keeping Gabrielle around for Season 2 that she got main title credit alongside her. Shows how awesome she is. This one doesn’t get a big head. To this very day she is still extremely humble. Not like the other from the other show who is a sad excuse for a human being.
What’s really interesting to me about this episode is Xena’s motivations contradicting her judgment. I mean she admits that she’s wrong for walking away from Solan when he was a baby but then she leaves again. True, he is well protected and has friends and family that she feels she doesn’t, but it’s still wrong to leave him behind. It’s still wrong to walk away.
So I guess what Gabrielle and Solan talked about is subverted a little at the end ‘cause Gabrielle said that Xena always does what’s right even when it hurts her. This time she does what’s wrong but for the right reasons. And it still devastates her because she feels she still cannot claim Solan when she walked out on him originally all those years ago.
It’s just interesting to have that conflicting contradiction in her character personality. But it makes sense because she’s always at war with herself above all else. She feels unworthy of him.
She’s a very complex character, Xena is.
Lucy refers to this ep as "Xena gives up her crack baby". Where's Bash these days, haven't seen him in a while?
Damn this is a good episode. I shouldn’t be surprised. It’s a Steven L. Sears episode. Everything he does for Xena is good.
I noticed you never reacted to Renee finally being in the main titles. You watched the whole thing. Did you not realize that she only had an “also starring” credit in Season 1?
She’s officially a main character. Practically a second lead character. As it should be. ☺️

The "other show" was one which if it hadn't been in existence there would have been no Xena at all and that "other" isn't the real person with an ego on social media from this universe believe me.
