I was expecting the 2 rituals to be #1 and #2 as they are the definition of the category. When i saw Dark ritual in #2 i got very surprised and confused… and then I saw the mox.
Interesting thing about Phyrexian tower is that it was played in historic with Muxus goblin decks even though all of the cards in the deck were mono red but the mana ramp was just that good.
My head still kind of hurts from getting absurdly drunk yesterday at an Alestorm concert, but no amount of rum and beer can stop me from making my way to a Nizzahon video somewhat on time, especially when it has such an obvious #1 that if it weren't for the fact it was Power 9, would definitely be in "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
@@whitestagg Yeah that one. Grabbed their vinyl because it turns out I knew the singer and he recognised me. Was one awesome night, but my ears are still ringing and I can see people moshing in the corner of my eye, maybe I'm finally going schizophrenic 😂
been binge watching your top 10's for more than a week now! jumped into MTG around Fallen Empires but stopped around after Exodus, so fascinating to see how much has happened for the same since then! thanks Nizzahon, happy thanksgiving weekend!
I get a set that fits me and my girls playstyles when able. They don't often have decks I like that fit my themes that also boost my deck, I'll often buy 4 commander decks at once and only get 3-4 cards I could put in each deck I already have made, it kinda sucks tbh.
"so fascinating to see how much has happened for the same since then!" Not really. The quality of the game has exponentially deteriorated and will continue to do so. The "magic of now," is not "our magic" of the past when we were growing up. As for me, I started during Ice Age and stopped at Scourge.
Dark ritual and Lake of the Dead are such a part of my life. Sure Mind Twist, Necro fueling, Specter... but still sacrificing things for Ritual of the Machine/ Song ofthe Damned discard for graveyard play sake, especially lands, wasn't the way to go in 1995-96 as far as I can remember. I was there and I loved that time. Cheers
The "Vintage (500)" text for Mox Jet is very satisfying. Also, in the MTG Top 8 logo, why are the green and white colours swapped in their positions in the pentagon?
Since you recently did an economic episode (lands), could you do a „best bang for your buck“ episode, as in the cheapest cards with the highest scores, or conversely, the most expensive cards with the lowest?
Most expensive for the lowest is kinda boring; there's a lot of Reserved List rares no-one really plays but are worth far more than they should be. I think the other list would be far more interesting...I'm guessing something like a common like Delver that's had recent reprints during the "printing out of our ass" era would get the top spot...maybe anyway.
I’m just going to mention culling the weak which for a little bit was the strongest card in the game. For a little while just before mana source was removed as a card type, a card that said mana source counted as a super interrupt. So card speed went mana source fastest then interrupt and instants were the slowest. It made a huge difference back during batch play. I know it sounds weird but if a mana source wasn’t the fasted card type it wouldn’t be possible to tap a land for mana to play interrupts. I’d also like to add that basalt thrall and blood pet are still very useful for mana ramp.
I’ll run Blood Pet and Basal Thrull in Commander decks. Recurable and easy to get death and sacrifice triggers off of using them. So underrated. Put a Bequeathal on them and enjoy the trip to Value Town
Interesting that you put black as second to green when I’d put it at 3rd esp in the modern day. Most good black ramp is very old, like 2000s at the latest, and I think that red has largely supplanted it as the fast/impermanent ramp color.
@@emperornapoleon6204 well sure, but that’s just due to the powering down of instants and sorceries over time. Red getting more modern support is going to be worse off than black getting their cards at the height of non permanent power. It’s like saying that white is still primary in land destruction because it has all the best mass land removal spells, fact is that it’s primary in red and tertiary in green and black.
Oh, boy! A video to give my Chainer EDH ritual deck more cards! Aaaaaand I'm running all of these except the Ghoul, the draw, and the Mox already. Drat.
Personally I would've omitted the treasure cards. Sure they also give you single mana, but they're anything but exclusive to black. They don't even end up making black mana most of the time.
What's number 11? 12?? That is, if you didn't consider the Power Nine, or the OG Dark Ritual, what what's the next best thing?? Especially since I doubt that even just the Dark Ritual will ever fall, barring Power Creep resulting in something _"(1 or less mana) into (4 or more mana)"_ .
@@NizzahonMagic yea, I can see that. I feel that you really want the ramp immediately in black for explosive plays. I do see decks that like the ramp for later, like aristocrats.
do people really talk about treasure and rituals as ramp though? generally when I talk about ramp I think of something that lasts for more than one use
Indeed! I just used one and the last example I saw cause it didn't hit me until the end that Nizz had said it "had to have a black color identity." Does black color identity technically mean colorless cards that make black mana?
@@Psychonautical89 It means any card with a black mana symbol appearing in it's mana cost or text box, with no other mana symbols appearing on the card.

Chippy does such good work. Phyrexian Tower looks sick. Grim Monolith is one of my favorite cards, particularly because of the artwork
My favorite art of all time is actually on Master Transmuter.
The art Chippy did for her is so beautiful.
@@emmeehan8680Absolutely same. Master Transmuter is a ridiculously gorgeous card, and fun to play with too.
Honorable mention (EDH mono black only) to Cabal Coffers' little brother Cabal Stronghold

Ritual of the Machine never got enough cred, imo.
Songs of the Damned on an Isochron Sceptre would seem fun.
I always die a little inside whenever I cast a Dark Ritual and didn't follow it up with a Hypnotic Specter.
I only knew of dark ritual, cabal coffers, and lake of the dead. Interesting to see what the others were.
Welcome to knowledge of the Moxen! There’s no going back once you’ve discovered the Power 9.
That intro is like an association game fever dream. I love it
The top two ramp cards are so iconic

Pauper cycling storm is such a cool deck. Nice to see pauper have some representation on the top 10, as always

What about bubbling muck?
I admit myself shocked that Dark Petition didn't make the cut.

That Mox Jet price seems a bit off.
I wish that Organ Harvest wasn't an un-set card 😔
pair priest of forgotten gods and ashnod the uncaring
Does Elves of Deep shadow count as black ramp? Lol
i was expecting at least an honorable mention of stuff like Chrome Mox, Mox Opal, Mox Amber, Mox Tantilite, or even literally Skirge Familiar.

I really don't feel shambling ghast is ramp. It's quite mana neutral. Same with deadly dispute

Culling the Weak deserves to be in the top 10
Is it NOT Dark Ritual? That would break your rule of it not being the thumbnail soooo...ummmm, Cabal Ritual?

OH, right, Mox Jet, fair fair.
666th like on the video about Black Ramp seems flavorful XD
I'm sad that cEDH staple Cull the weak didn't make the list.
Honestly The mox is kinda bs... it's a colorless card. Might as well put on the normal swamp...
Technically all the lands in this video are colorless too.
