Video is of a low budget and static.4 people and a snowman. But what else do we need when these 4some is Abba.Looking at these beautiful faces especially these girls that captures your mind like a drug and listening to these non-autotuned heavenly harmonies. You just sit down and sooth. The outro with the piano and the pompous twist became a big tik tok trend by youngsters a couple of years ago.

You are so right, Alexio! All you need is Abba. They don't need any gimacks....just the 4 of them performing in any background 🤩

Great song great reaction. The harmonies are just incredible here. They did this for a benefit concert and tv show. I believe it was in Switzerland. for UNICEF and the profits went to the organization. Frida is still a UNICEF ambassador to this day. Take care

    Chiquitita, tell me what's wrong
You're enchained by your own sorrow
In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow
How I hate to see you like this
There is no way you can deny it
I can see that you're oh so sad, so quiet
    Chiquitita, tell me the truth
I'm a shoulder you can cry on
Your best friend, I'm the one you must rely on
You were always sure of yourself
    Now I see you've broken a feather
(How it hurts to see you cry)
(And how it hurts to see you sad)
I hope we can patch it up together
    Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving
You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
    Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
(Even though we cry, the sun is shining in the sky)
Let me hear you sing once more (so let me hear you sing some more)
Like you did before (the way you used to do before)
    Sing a new song, Chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
    Sing a new song, Chiquitita
So the walls came tumbling down
And your love's a blown out candle
All is gone and it seems too hard to handle
    Chiquitita, tell me the truth
There is no way you can deny it
I see that you're oh so sad, so quiet
    Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving
(You and I we know, how the heartaches come and go)
You'll be dancing once again (you'll be dancing once again)
And the pain will end (and all the pain you take will end)
You will have no time for grieving
    Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
(Even though we cry, the sun is shining in the sky)
Let me hear you sing once more (so let me hear you sing some more)
Like you did before (the way you used to do before)
    Sing a new song, Chiquitita

    Sing a new song, Chiquitita

The working title was 'In the arms of Rosalita" and it was Frida on the lead. But then they scrapped it and re-wrote the lyrics that ended as "Chiquitita".During the covid lockdown there were videos in the net showing people from the balconies in some Spanish speaking countries having people singing this echoing from above in neighbourhoods trying to give hope to each other.

"Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence (Agnetha is soprano, Anni Frid is mezzo soprano, and together blending together the 'Third Voice' of ABBA)
"Chiquitita" was composed especially for the Concert by UNICEF, invited (with a lot of artist) by Bee Gees
ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" that night in January 9 (1979), and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish
"Chiquitita" was specialy the greatest hit of ABBA in my country Argentina
"Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
This promotional video was in February 1979 in Swizterland, when ABBA go there to a special TV "ABBA in Switzerland", for the 'International year of the Child'
    (That's why the snowman)
It's their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden
I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs
    Maybe the next could be
"Thank you for the music" (1977)
another beautiful ABBA song recorded in spanish
GOD bless you and stay safe
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina
    South America

@@playitagainsue - Their songs come across as simple catchy pop tunes but they are much more complex than they appear both structurally and vocally. That is precisely the genius of good songwriters and performers. The music they produce is not as simple as it appears. How many groups have had plays and movies based on their catalogue and had people dancing in the aisles? My favourite is "Does your mother know" and there is a great LIVE version of it with another song, "Hole in your soul". You would love it. It ROCKS!

Hi again Sue and Chelsea! So I'll try to answer your questions, remind me if I forgot something. First, the video I believe is from the TV-special ABBA in Switzerland in 1979, it was filmed in Leysin and you can watch them actually ski there (I don't remember everything), they were on top of a mountain, yes. They did also record at least one album in spanish, have not listened to more than maybe one song. I listen in english or swedish, since I don't speak spanish, and neither do they, not really my cup of tea. I think they might have recorded something in german too, Agnetha was active solo in Germany before ABBA, but can't really remember. They didn't sing phonetically in english, I'm not an expert on when and how they were taught the languages they speak, but I would say english and german were taught in schools so that's something they should have been able to speak since in their teens. I think Agnetha is still not comfortable with it really, and Björn lived in England for years, so they are on different levels, but they could get by speaking (even then), and definetly singing it... right? Even if you hear accents. Björn could never have written the lyrics if he didn't know the language pretty well, and Benny wrote songs in english in the 60s, not too advanced, but he was just starting out. English was still pretty new to swedes ears then, german had been the big language before, for centuarys. But we adapted, and they did pretty quickly. Did you want suggestions for early Agnetha/Frida songs, solo stuff? I can have a look at my vinyl's. Also, I'm still not sure if you saw my suggestion on Ted Gärdestad, that Benny and Björn (and Stikkan) produced and the girls sang backup on? I really recommend listening. And there are more, if you like ABBA and Blue Suede/Björn Skifs, There is BAO and Tommy Körberg for one thing... and even more!

@@playitagainsue Good! Since there were more questions than usual I tried to keep up and answer while I still remembered most. Great, do that, don't think you will regret it! Ted, Tommy and also Helen Sjöholm have close ties to ABBA, that's why I mention them (both Tommy and Helen sang with Benny in BAO=Benny Anderssons Orkester) and Ted was sort of discovered by Björn and Benny. Tommy also sang in Chess (B&B's first musical). Both him and Ted does sing in english on some stuff, Helen just might also, and she is AMAZING, but I have seen reactors listen to her and Tommy in swedish and they don't need to understand to enjoy. Ted had one album in english, he also did a Canadian/Swedish TV-special with a canadian singer in -78/79, so there are even links there. Even if he did do some stuff in the US/CAN he is still pretty much a hidden gem of ours, but just like the other artist mentioned, he should be shared. He impressed B&B at age 15 and didn't really need their help, even then, that says a lot! If you want suggestions on Frida and Agnetha just say the word. We say "God fortsättning" (sort of good continuation, to Christmas/the holidays), I don't know if you say something like that but - I hope you have a continued good time this holiday season! Thanks for the listen! ABBA's Happy New Year might be too familiar as a next, right, even if it is the season for it. Just love that song!

This is one of the few songs for which ABBA didn't make its own promo video (MTV didn't start until 1981). The BBC recorded three videos of the song in February 1979 in Leysin, Valais, French Switzerland. However, this was not used in the BBC ABBA Easter show (Jackson Five were also there) and the 1979 Christmas special with Dame Etna Everage (originally planned, unhappy with the lighting+weather).
Chiquitita is the song for the Year of the Child 1979 and apparently brought in 4.8 million for UNICEF by 2021.

Three separate comments, in relation to Chiquitita by ABBA, their story and their subsequent recording in Spanish
    1) ABBA had been invited to the Concert for UNICEF (They was the only one of all the invited artists who was non-English speaking)
ABBA were promoting their disco-style song "If It Wasn't for the Nights" as a future new single.
But the time came for the recording of "Chiquitita", and everything changed, and ABBA considered "Chiquitita" as more appropriate for UNICEF, and so it was.
    2) at the time of recording "Chiquitita" it is the time of separation of Agnetha and Björn as a couple, with two small children of 6 and 1 year old
"Chiquitita" is their last recording as a couple, and at the same time it is the first that they perform separately, and this is the first official video of ABBA no longer being two couples.
    3) the success of "Chiquitita" was more notable in Spanish-speaking countries; In my country Argentina, many singles were sold, and it was on this occasion that the manager of the RCA record company in Argentina traveled to Sweden with an adaptation of the lyrics in Spanish (only the first verses and chorus) and convinced ABBA's manager let them record it in Spanish
ABBA accepted and premiered it in Spain in 1979 in sone TV specials.
Its success was indescribable And that same year ABBA recorded another one in Spanish, and with an official video:
"Estoy soñando" (I have a dream)
The following year ABBA will record a full album in Spanish, with many of their hits (Mamma Mia, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Thank you for the music, etc.)
For this, the lyrics in Spanish were made by the Argentine brothers Buddy & Mary McClusky, and a Spanish journalist helped Agnetha and Frida with the phonetics for the recordings.
Spanish was the fifth language in which ABBA sang
Their first worldwide hit "Waterloo" was recorded in Swedish, English, German and French.
By the way: you should do a reaction to "Waterloo", but not the official video (which is good), better is the live performance at Eurovision 1974, since next year will be the 50th anniversary of that historic act for world pop music

.. Love ABBA, and always happy to see them played .. But I know I'm almost certainly in the minority when I say that "Chiquitita" is only a mid-tier level song for me among ABBAs overall repertoire .. It's quite good, but it's not one of the ones that really excites me to listen to .. "Fernando" is even more the case for me .. It's rated among most ABBA fans' very favourites, but it's just mid-tier at best for me .. But hey, we all have our own personal faves, so that's cool !
