    One thing I’ve learned - about 90% of the gun UA-camrs do NOT actually carry every day if at all. They’re all a bunch of blowhards. Once I made the decision to carry every day I soon discovered that pocket carry is the only solution that works every day and in every circumstance. You are the real deal. Not a pretender. Thanks for being honest.

      Certainly is a curiosity how many actually *do* carry every day 🤔
      I have to use undershirt or underarm holster for work (pocket carry prints too much and often adds too much weight while I've just had bad luck with ankle holsters), and I remember a buddy criticizing me, repeatedly, for it. But I told him that it's not about being able to have a fast draw but just being able to have something on me at all.
      Experiences like that make me wonder how many Guntubers, or even big talkers at local gun shops, hype up their firearms but regularly don't even carry.

    I’ve carried a J Frame since my 1968 rookie year, used an issued 2” Colt DS in a gunfight in 1974 and it dropped the suspect. While not ideal it is easy to carry in a pocket holster and your points on it’s short comings are valid.

    I saw your video about the gas station incident. Glad you're okay. I carry my 642 holstered, but the original idea was to keep it in my pocket. It's the one I carry most, and after some incidents in my neighborhood, I never leave home without it unless I opt for one of its bigger brothers, of course.

    I have a J frame 638 with a shrouded hammer. I have quite a few pistols, but as you stated, I will carry the J frame, and often. I also have a LCP and carry it everywhere. I still carry my G19 often, but when it isn’t practical, the LCP or 638 are always there. Good video. All real talk.

    I love my 637 (Airweight with an exposed hammer) for pocket carry. Just place your thumb on the hammer spur on the draw from the pocket holster and it’s snag proof. I also get the advantage of single action for more precision shots. The 642 is a wonderful pocket gun but the 637 is more versatile for me….and it looks better. Lol

    Sir, you have put into words precisely how I purchase J frames. It's a beautiful thing because this old bastard isn't paying these new and ridiculously exorbitant prices for J frame sized revolvers that were in the low 3's just a few years ago new and are now in the low to mid 5's. Suck rocks. I have literally been standing on the line and watched people that just bought the things earlier in the day, stand there with them and not be able to put anything on paper at 3-5 yards, muddle their way through 50 cringeathon rounds of jerking, flinching, muttering, head shaking, and dismay over the experience, put the thing back in the box and take it back to the counter and roll out of it and into something else. Without the mile long line of those poor souls, I'd never get my pocket revolvers in barely used condition for 3 bills. Thanks for the video!

    Love the 43c j frame, 8 shots, 22 lr. Also with federal punch, its semi wad cutter, gets 13-15 inches in gel from snub. Great "get off me" or break contact weapon. Its highly accurate and very capable, despite what people think about 22 lr, no one ever volunteers to show ineffective they claim it to be... plus being smaller lighter round it gets moving quick, 1100+ fps from a snub is a spicey little projectile, I sure would never want to be hit by one

    Speaking to the longevity of these, I actually wore out my Model 642 after 5 years and 7,000 rounds. The hole in the frame for the cylinder arbor egged out from recoil, until eventually the timing went to pot. I started having failed primer strikes because the primer was being hit so far off center, and the bullets were also tumbling since they were so deformed from being put into the forcing cone off center. On the contrary, my Ruger LCP has roughly the same round count, and is still going strong. I ended up replacing my 642 with a 340, for the endurance package (it has a steel bushing at that hole). Like you said, I just carry 38Spl in it though.

    • @brokeboytactical4397

      Glad that you said all this because a lot of people are under the impression that these are unbreakable infallible little guns. " Never jams"... 🙄 As if that's the only thing that could ever go wrong with your firearm. They are very solid little tools but don't get it twisted they break just like everything else. If you're running a healthy diet of plus pee through your plus p rated 38 special it's going to take a s*** on you real fast. Even Colt and Smith and Wesson will tell you tonight put too much plus p through your firearm. That's why a lot of people like the 357 magnums. Just like you they like the ammo versatility and they like that it's a little more robust. But I 100% believe you these things can definitely happen. I am however baffled at your LCP is still kicking over your revolver though. That's quite like I said I haven't put that new LCP of mine or that 637 through a lifetime of shooting yet so I wasn't sure but in my mind I was confident that the revolver would definitely Outlast it. That's really interesting!!! Again thanks for for the input

    Great video, thank you! The majority of the time I pocket carry a snub nose 5-shot revolver. In my opinion pocket carrying a snubbie is the best for reliability, comfort & concealabilty. I just ordered the other day the new Kimber K6xs 6-shot 38 special for pocket carry. If I can get 6 shots versus 5 I'll take it. And the close contact reliability of a snubbie vs a semi auto is a big reason why I prefer to carry a snubbie for edc.

      The k6s might be the one exception of the six shot revolver for pocket. Most six shots in my opinion are far too cumbersome for actual pocket carry and are definitely going to excel it on or in the waistband. But the k6s is a little more streamline than your average 6 shot j frame. It's definitely the wisest choice if you're going to go to six shots. And thank you very much for watching bro I appreciate it 👊

      @atoadigi 10 місяців тому +1

      @@brokeboytactical4397 I agree, other 6 shot revolvers are way too big for PC. The one I ordered is the new k6xs which is 38 special only and around 15-1/2 oz, the original K6s is 357 magnum and around 23 ounces so I opted for the lighter one which is also about $300 less. The other revolvers that I already have are in that 23-25 ounce range. With a good belt they are ok for pocket carry but I'm really looking forward to that ultra light weight.

    Good video… you got a hell of a deal! We got my wife a 642 and that’s her carry gun, I love it but I don’t really enjoy shooting a bunch of hot +P ammo out of it because it does get a little rough on the hands and wrist… about 10- 15 rounds and I’m ready to switch back to standard pressure ammo. And as for the Federal punch, I call them the poor man’s HST… because they are just about as good and noticeably cheaper than HST (which is one of the best that you can buy in my opinion) the only difference is the HST looks prettier when it expands ( like a flower) than the Punch does. I load all my carry guns with either HST’s or Punch except for my .380’s , they get Underwood Xtreme defenders or XTP’s only because in .380 the HST and punch do so good at expanding that they don’t penetrate that deep, but for .38 special on up they’re excellent… something else I’ve noticed though the years is that a good name brand revolver ( S&W, Ruger, Colt) usually increase value over time, more so than the polymer guns… so revolvers are a pretty good investment and I’m surprised you got yours so cheap but that’s awesome for you!

    • @brokeboytactical4397
      @brokeboytactical4397  10 місяців тому +1

      It really was a heck of a deal. I won't lie though I do get some pretty good deals on "used" firearms at my local store. Kind of frequent-flier benefits if you will 😂 it was still a screaming deal on the shelf at $349.99. I put the "used" in quotations because I'm sure you're well aware that if you Shop Smart you can get literal brand-new firearms at a used price based on technicality. I could have sworn that Federal discontinued the HST's?... If that's not the case then my research left me very ill-informed. That's definitely what I would be carrying if I could have found it or knew it was available. The punch was by far the best performing 38 special plus P that was available to me at the time and place. I have noticed this about revolvers as well. Especially if a model gets discontinued. It's definitely going to be a better investment in that aspect over an LCP. And yeah plus p at the range with a j frame is no fun 😂. You definitely need to cycle your carry ammo and get a feel for it but you can definitely train with standard pressure. Even then it's not going to be the most enjoyable experience but it's necessary. Thanks for watching and commenting bro 👊

    My 856 snubby is my “no excuse” firearm ( no excuse for leaving the house without something). I do want the 642 because it is so easy to carry all day and everyday, it is so small and light. I tried it out at the range and saw the smirk of the range instructor as I’m sure he couldn’t help himself seeing me grimace while firing. I’m not a small guy but my analogy of firing the 642 is like holding a bat too high and hitting a fastball. Nevertheless, I still want to get one because if I’m truly in a fight for my life I’m sure I will not notice the pain when trying to get an attacker up off me. Tried a big box sports store and they want $520( Owww!!) for one.

    • @brokeboytactical4397
      @brokeboytactical4397  10 місяців тому

      Yeah they can be really expensive man. I like your analogy! That is exactly what it feels like. Put 50 rounds consecutively through your 38 special snubby and tell me how many blood vessels have popped in your hand 👌. These little guys have made me bleed from a full day of training. I have calluses now so I'm used to it but in the beginning..."ouch" 🤕. The 642 is going to be superior for pocket carry over the 637 there's no doubt about that. Would be an excellent choice 👌. 520 is a bit much... 450 sounds better. I used to have the 856. I'm a smaller guy so in my pockets it just made zero sense. It was massive in my pockets and no matter what I did it always cause my pants to drag. I carry my 637 in my coat pocket. From my research revolvers hold up better in freezing weather as opposed to autoloaders. Thanks for watching and commenting man I appreciate it 👊

I have many other choices, but regardless of whether I have something larger and more efficient on me, I ALWAYS have a snubby, on my person wherever I am. These are very easy to pocket carry. And yes, I prefer the Remington Golden Sabers in .38 SPL + even though the 60 is a .357, they are f'n brutal firing Winchester 147 Silvertips. Though a 49 and 638 are great options I passed after having the modified 36, it was a chore to clean out the hammer channel from lint. So it got disposed of. Most standard pressure .380 acp prob only comes out of the lcp at about 159-180 foot pounds of energy. The underwood 68gr +p extreme defender comes out around 227 fpe. (i know I know its not officially rated but it is “rated” by Buffalo Bore and “the street”)
    I carry them staggered with critical duty until I purchase some defiant tcx. That is rated at 215 fpe out of the LCP but I believe Tools&Targets tested it at 198. But it passes the fbi duty ammo protocol. I hope they recoil less than the underwood because that hurts your trigger finger! I can’t imagine the .357 magnum out of a J frame subcompact revolver!! This question may make me look dumb, but I won't be as dumb after you answer it. For the way the Beretta Bobcat is made, with a barrel that you can tilt open at the middle, and a slide that ends about halfway to the barrel tip - If I press that barrel into an assailant's body will it fire?

    • @brokeboytactical4397
      @brokeboytactical4397  10 місяців тому +1

      The tilt up barrel is just there for convenience. Still has a reciprocating slide that you could charge but it's extremely difficult. They put the tilt-up barrel on that firearm for that reason. Since the slide still reciprocates it would still stand a chance of the firearm failing to go back into battery. But like I said with it being so hard to charge it coming out of battery while you're pressing it into somebody might be more unlikely than your average auto loading semi automatic. But that slide has to come back into battery and when it does if it gets caught up in the person shirt or if it's pressed too far up into their body it could fail to go back into battery. I hope that was coherent 😂 and no the only thing that would make you look dumb is not asking. There's no such thing as a stupid question when your life is on the line

      It's not a bad option for pocket carry. I just stand by the fact that a hammerless revolver is better for pocket carry. You can always put your thumb over the hammer. It really is a great little gun. The only situation I can really see the hammer coming into play is for snakes. In a defensive situation it's not going to apply one bit. There's actually a lot of really interesting literature about double single action revolvers and why police officers moved away from not just the 38 special but the entire double single action revolver platform. But before they went to auto loading semi-automatics they started training just using double action. It really is interesting that's a good read

    The 642 was just too bulky for pocket carry in pants for me as I wear pants that fit vs baggy. Made a great jacket pocket gun though. I pocket carry a Taurus PT-22 today with the Rossi appendix.
    The nice thing about a tip-up barrel is you can still jam it into a belly and empty the gun without malfunction.

      That's a lot of ammo man... Look this is going to come across aggressive over text but I'm just talking to you okay so don't get mad. And if I'm wrong I'm wrong....I'm assuming since you said you put 4000 rounds of 38 special through your 642 you're implying that you put more through your Rossi correct? Since you're making the statement that the Rossi is outperforming the Smith & Wesson that's what I have to believe. But let's say it's a dead even 4,000 rounds each. The national average for 38 special ammo is .52 a round. And remember that's an average. So 8000 rounds at .52 each is $4160. Are you telling me that you could afford $4,160 in 38 special ammunition ALONE? Yet you choose to carry a Rossi and a Taurus PT22? So it's only safe to assume that if your round count through your firearms is correct that you reload right? And I can safely assume that because 38 special is the easiest and cheapest handgun cartridge to reload. That's why Smith & Wesson warranty your firearm. That makes your warranty 100% void.

      I mean absolutely no disrespect I just hear these stories all the time and 99% of the time are made up or heavily exaggerated. Like I said if I'm wrong I'm wrong and I do apologize if I offended you but... I do find what you say hard to believe. But if those firearms work for you man then I say carry them 👍 but as for the tip up barrel I guess there is slightly some truth to what You're saying. But it still has a reciprocating slide... I can't and I'll get conscious recommend that somebody press this into their attacker and rely that it will not fail to go into battery. But I will say it's far less likely to happen with this design of firearm because the barrel sticks out so far from the slide. The same case could be made for the Beretta 92 or their tip up pocket pistols.

      @@brokeboytactical4397 Yes, I get what your saying but, I am 65 years old and still carry a S&W model 10 snubby so no hate on S&W its just their quality control is so bad currently on their wheelguns I recommend never to buy one online because you can't look it over first.
      I am not saying do not buy one but, if you shoot a lot like I do these airweights will not last long and maybe that is OK for what they are? S&W told me they are not meant to be shot as much as I shot mine which seems counterintuitive since these guns demand a lot of practice to get really good with them. No hate on S&W and no hate on the airweights it is what it is and people should be aware is all.
      S&W offered to replace mine at cost which was $389 by the time I paid shipping and an FFL fee. Trouble is like you I got mine new for $300 on sale so I declined their offer.

      @@brokeboytactical4397 Well the Rossi is steel so I would expect it to outlast an alloy frame gun anyway and we are talking 29 years of shooting with the Rossi so not as big of an expense spread out over those years. I bought the Rossi in 1994 because I was pretty broke but wanted a carry gun and it was $204 out the door. I have carried 32 different guns both as a sheriff's deputy and a civilian carrier from Taurus to HK so cost has not been a deal breaker for most of my life. I carry those guns because they work and have worked for decades (The PT-22 is 1998) so I stick with what carries well for my lifestyle and wardrobe and works no matter the initial cost. I do not reload.
      I know there is a lot of BS online but, I have no need to lie about my personal experiences. Does not mean others will have the same experience as I did.
      BTW I get 38 special for .30 a round online so don't know where you get the high costs. I carry lead wadcutters for carry ammo so I can practice relatively cheap with my carry ammo. Did not mean to upset you as I like your channel. I don't understand why you think round count would void a warranty? Especially only 4K in 4 years?

    Ok... I think I should get a wheel gun too because of the up close and personal encounters. I was thinking of 6 inch .357 revolvers but I think I might want to see if a snub nose is better for me. If so, it should be one I'm comfortable and accurate with. I'm thinking the 3 inch LCRx in .38+P.

But honestly, and i know many people will disagree, but in perfectly comfortable loading up with the ole standard pressure 158gr LRN round. And i also sometimes load up my 38's (I have 4 at currently), with flat nose 130gr Winchester FMJ.

      @@brokeboytactical4397 Roger that. I believe hollow points are overrated in the 38 snubby. I was raised on a small farm. One of my "chores" Dad assigned to me was pest and varmits control. I used a variety of guns and ammo for the task. When using my 38's, Snubbies and longer barrels , I noticed shallow penetration from the plus P hollow points and standard velocity hollows too. The ole standard pressure solid lead and FMJ rounds gave much better penetration. And I noticed shot placement was much more important than bullet -- with both plus P and the standard velocity stuff. And the standard velocity Lead and FMJ rounds are much cheaper to stock up on than the "exotic" rounds. That's my real world experiences with 38's.

      It's very hard to find a 38 special or even 38 special plus p that will reach expansion threshold out of a 1 and 7/8 in barrel or even anything under a 4-in barrel. 38 special in 380 are two rounds that I would still prefer to carry a round nose full metal jacket over a hollow point 👍. That barrel you have is shorter but they have done many tests showing a 3" barrel in 357 barely at all loses anything compared to a 4" or 6, its minimal in velocity. Guy getting hit ain't gonna know the difference either. "3 through 6" all .357 is going right through a car door and into target like nothing. 2" barrel might be significant loss in velocity but I never studied it, personally I won't carry anything less then a 3" barrel on any handgun.

    Have carried revolvers for four decades. Three more problems that I have experienced with them: ejector rod not long enough to fully eject brass (.22 Magnum, .357 Magnum), high-pressure cartridge brass gets stuck in the cylinder charge holes, and occasionally brass will get stuck under the ejector star. And if you are a lefty like me, reloads are awkward (but not impossible). Lately, I have been carrying a modern "revolver": Glock Gen 5 semi-auto pistol. Similar to revolvers in their simplicity, and I can reverse the magazine catch to work for a lefty.
