  • On the 73rd anniversary of the 1945 Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, we captured scenes at From Hiroshima to Hope, the annual lantern-floating ceremony at Green Lake. The event is an adaptation of an ancient Japanese Buddhist ritual, the Toro Nagashi, in which lanterns representing the souls of the dead are floated out to sea. In Seattle, the lanterns have come to represent not only the victims of atomic bombings but also those who have died in violent conflict anywhere.
