    Bill,
    What a great video! Well organized and informative for those thinking of riding this
    BDR. The giving of the mileage and listing of the campgrounds at the end of each section/day was helpful. Also the description of each bike by the rider was a good idea. Looks like everyone had a great time riding with Bill Pacheco!

    Curious if the penske had hooks for tie downs? We are hauling 7 bikes and got a 26ft penske truck.

    • @billpacheco790
      @billpacheco790  2 роки тому +1

      I bought tie downs on eBay and screwed them into the wooden floor of the Penske truck. Used two straps per bike to hold them in place. After unscrewing the tie downs I ran dirt over the screw holes to cover the crime.

    It seems the 250 is great for the trails. Would you have gone with a. Bigger bike of using a van wasn’t an option? Looking to do the bdr but live in nj so would have a good bit of Highway to get to and from

    Great video! I attempted to complete sections 1-3 (S-N) in April. I went down hard just after completing Tub Run rd. on some hard packed, slick dirt on my heavy Africa Twin. I am thinking about getting a dual sport for this type of riding now but know I will have to make some sacrifices with luggage, fuel strategy, and comfort riding out to the trails.

    • @billpacheco790
      @billpacheco790  3 роки тому +7

      I normally ride a Yamaha Super Tenere but have found that it is too much work for an old guy like me on the trails. I bought the CRF250L last year for doing the NEBDR and loved the lighter weight and off road handling. I was able to pack everything I needed for camping without needing to leave anything essential behind. An after-market seat goes along way for a more comfortable ride. Try it and you will like it! Also that Africa Twin is probably lonely in the garage all by itself...

  • @jimhackney4727

    I really enjoyed your video. I have a few questions about this route.
    Would you recommend a smaller bike? I have a Yamaha TTR250 dual sport, an XR650L and a CB500X Rally Raid. The Yamaha is under 300lbs. The XR650L is about 332lbs (after mods), and the CB500X is 430lbs.
    Would you recommend knobbies?
    What is the approximate maximum distance I can expect between fuel stops? Should I carry extra fuel?
    It's a little hard to tell from the video, but would you classify this as challenging or easy going for the most part?
    If you had to put a percentage on it, how much of this route is offroad? I was hoping for about 70% or more.
    Thank you for your help.

    • @billpacheco790
      @billpacheco790  3 роки тому +1

      You can do the MABDR using any of those bikes. I prefer using my CRF250L for the BDR's just because it is lighter, better on gas and so much fun to ride. Also if there are challenging spots (like on the NEBDR) it is a lot easier for me, as a 62 year old, to handle the smaller bike.

      @@billpacheco790 Thanks for the reply Bill. I'm 55 so I know what you mean. The smaller bikes are easier and more fun. How much of this BDR is offroad? Thanks again.

    • @billpacheco790
      @billpacheco790  3 роки тому +3

      @@jimhackney4727 I would say that the MABDR is probably 70% off road but most of that is gravel roads so not that tough. We saw more guys riding it on big bikes than on dual sports like we were.

      Glad to provide the inspiration. I use a DJI Spark. It is very small and produces good quality video. It takes a while to learn how to fly it and get the best shots. My son Sam did all of the drone shooting for this video - he is much better at it than I am.
