Ola Englund It's always cool to see sick players like Ola show up at other player's videos and stuff like that. Two totally different players but both absolutely mind-boggling.
Hey guys quick question, I have a mesa 395 switchtrack poweramp which I like to connect to triax, however I play only metal/metalcore, can I get a decent tone out a triax/395 combo? with od fcourse
Hi ***** - Of course! The 395 is a great power amp and will sound very heavy. The older Mesa power amps sound a little harder and more forward in the midrange but they work killer, especially if you want to have a harder hitting sound for high gain music. Rock on!
John's playing and sound on this tour was completely amazing, I have been watching DT play live shows for 20 years and he never sounded better than this last tour.
I saw DT on this tour and swore that it was the best sounding tone I've ever heard from Petrucci. When I saw a run down of his rig and how small it was I was blown away. Those Triaxis Pres are phenomenal!
Tell me, guys: is it just me? Or is John Petrucci about the coolest guy on the planet? And by cool, I mean down to Earth, approachable, laid back yet gregarious. I’ve seen a few of his demo videos, one where he was at a Guitar Center showing off his new Majesty custom seven string. He had this amazing interplay with the audience, and was open to answering any questions thrown his way. Funny, self deprecating, and filled with as much musical knowledge as any human being could possibly have. And the next part is that he’s willing to share that knowledge. It just pours out of him. What a tremendous teacher he’d be. I have nothing but the utmost respect for John Petrucci as a musician, and as a human being. He’s pretty much become my musical idol, and while I’ll never come even close to his ability as a guitarist, he inspires me. I’d give just about anything to meet him, and shake his hand. John, if you ever see this, or if somebody close to him does, and feels like forwarding a message, I thank you (as well as John M, Charlie, James, Mike and Mike, Kevin, Derek and Jordan) for so many great years of listening pleasure. I’ve seen DT nine times in concert (the last being about ten years ago before I hurt my back), and this next show in Dallas this coming April will be the first time I see them with Mr. Mangini. I’m pumped beyond belief! Stay cool, brother. You do your family and the band proud!
Hi +Nino Scholz - This is from John's tech regarding pedal switching in & out: "We use an RJM Mini Effects Gizmo(MEG) to switch the pedals in and out. The MEG is a midi controlled loop switcher. The loops are True Bypass. Each pedal has its own loop. The two overdrive pedals are daisy chained together in series in one loop. This is for easier swapping of overdrive pedals. Only one is on at a time. All of the loops are controlled by the foot controller." Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Finally even the top-notch guitarists are realizing you really don't need more than a 1x12 cab that sounds good. MESA has done an amazing job on these. Also thank god for the axe-fx, this unit has single-handedly changed how we perceive modelling.
a 1x12 sounds punchier and cleaner for sure, but you would need the 4 individual cabs like he has setup here to be able to compete with a live drummer, 1 single 1x12 wouldn't cut it.
What a genius. He does not take anything that's less than perfect. His gear and tone is as great as everything else, he puts so much effort just to get the tone he wants. I wish I had 15% of his skills lol. Love John
The Genius, doing what he does!!! There are no words that can express my feelings for Dream Theater, especially Petrucci. The type of dude I'd LOVE to have a drink with. Thank you for being there during the most sensitive and critical years of my life. Since The Backroom in Austin, TX back in 1993 I've been hooked. Thank you Mesa Boogie for granting 'The Genius' the tools to communicate with us. See you at the next show!
"God gave John Petrucci Gave John Petrucci, Put him in your soul for everyone." One of the very best demos I've heard. This man has such a delicate ear. Everything about his sound is right. I don't know if there's room for improvement, as far as tone goes, and I can only say that about a dozen or so guitar players. Petrucci's sound is uniquely magical. His gear is a factor, but the better half of his sound is the result of trained hands and a gifted soul. Even with this exact rig, ain't no one gonna make it sing like JP does - but that's just my opinion.
Thanks a lot for the explanation of the speakers... As a mesa mark V owner i can affirm that is one of the most amazing amps ever created and designed period... Pure creamy and heavenly cleans and overdrive and everything in between... I personally fell in love with the v30s, just a magical interaction(that punch and authority, but still very musical and sweet) Cant wait to try the mark 25 watts... You guys nail it again!!!
The crunch tone is absolutely fantastic, such dynamic and tight-end, it's marvelous! Triaxis is out of my budget, but one of the best preamps up there.
Man since this video was released it has been my dream rig and now I saved money for it I made my own cables and all that stuff and I finally have it 😍
Mesa bring back the Triaxis... please... This is the most magic preamp ever. I still remember as it came out there was a presentation at Cherry Music in Braunschweig Germany and I was blown away the same way as I'm blown away every time I switch on my very old unit.
Hi Hoschie - thanks for the kind words and so glad the Triaxis continues to work well for you. It's amazing that it was in production for nearly 20 years! It may someday return but in the meantime, we hope you continue to get inspiration and great tone from it. :)
Just play a note or a chord and listen what the TA does with it. I love to do that when I'm alone in the rehearsal room. 1 note or 1 chord and listen. Beautiful ...
So cool and interesting! Thanks for posting, he's one of my favs

I had a Triaxis + 2:90 + small recto cab setup with TC G-Force fx. Fantastic sounds, very versatile and all paid for with gig money from (primary use!) - Clubs, Weddings, Functions band for over 20 years.
For your bed room, just by an Axe-FX (if you still want high end but not 15000 lol) Just explored the Tri-Axis models on the unit and they sound great!
01:59 --> Crucial for JP's tones --> Triaxis patch 29 (set for both triaxis units) has a different lead sound setting on the top Triaxis compared to the lower Triaxis...!!! --> He's COMBINING different sounds from EACH Triaxis to achieve a unique 'final' sound - they're NOT used as backups (he'll have a second, identical rack to this as a backup). You're gonna need TWO Triaxis and TWO 2:90's to get his sound!
concept: a similar rig with axe fx and power amp racked in center , replace the mesa cabinets with PA full range speakers for tone dialing at practice and stage volume and run the axe fx thru your speakers and to front of house live.
I own a 1981 100W Mesa Boogie Mark 2 fully loaded with all options. This amp has only one speaker and will walk all over a 100W Marshall combo which has 4 speakers. the original owner showed me the receipt $2831 back in 1981...Carlos Santana has one also. he said it's one of his flavorite amps. I paid $1,340 back in 1991.
...way better than the Mark tones from the head. I remember his rig tour 2007 where he demos the Mark V. I hope he will stick to this rig for the next couple of years ... - Thanks to Mesa-Boogie for sharing :-)
I like the fact that he's still using the triaxis 2:90 combo. I had that long time ago and it's definitely the key to the petrucci sound.
😨
It's a magic combo. I still use it. Best sound ever.
@Odell Mateo go fuck urself
Yeah I think you need the deep modern extra settings on the 2:90 to really get the tone right. The other power amps like the 20/20 won't do it justice
@Odell Mateo you shut the fuck up man. No hate for Ola here!
And great video btw, I'm always into what Petrucci is using.
Ola Englund It's always cool to see sick players like Ola show up at other player's videos and stuff like that. Two totally different players but both absolutely mind-boggling.

Yeah, but how do I get that sound outta my fender mustang ii modelling, practice amp...? lmao

Those tones are immaculate, tight and sounds out of the world. JP weaves them together impeccably like a master weaver. Speechless.
Thanks,Deepak Eapen - We agree! :D
3:43 - John forgot to mention this also controls the rate of the earth's revolution and how hot the sun is
hahahahaha nice dude xD
Lmao!
Which is why mostly use my guitar; my DT- 25 amp and all points in between so that don’t get lost in the woods! 😳
Great to see someone who knows that :D
Good thing he still uses those strings that don´t melt while playing 5 billion bpm
The meaning of life..... is the tone at 4:45. Just perfection.
John's playing and sound on this tour was completely amazing, I have been watching DT play live shows for 20 years and he never sounded better than this last tour.
THIS ONE OF.
IF NOT MY ALL TIME FAVORITE VIDEO ON UA-cam..
UNCLE~MR.JOHN PETRUCCI IS AN ABSOLUTE PHENOMENAL GUITARIST...
Impeccable sounding as per usual. Love how the thick, juicy driven tones and John's playing mesh so well. :)
I saw DT on this tour and swore that it was the best sounding tone I've ever heard from Petrucci. When I saw a run down of his rig and how small it was I was blown away. Those Triaxis Pres are phenomenal!
although I had no guitar teacher or anything .... but this man Taught me a lot ..... he is sth else.
thank you for everything Mr Petrucci
I wish all Petrucci's videos for Mesa/Boogie lasted at least half an hour. I can't get enough with less than 10 minutes! Too good to be this short!
Who else is on a JP rig video spree? Awesome videos on this channel, much appreciated!
Thank you, Horizon! There's more comin' :)
I failed to realize at first those were 1x12s. For a second, I thought Petrucci was a damn giant.
I knew that Dude was huge but he towers over those 4x12 cabinets!
***** :D
Those are 1x12 bro :D

Lol absolutely the opposite of down to earth but a good player nonetheless
@@MattJackson314 have you met him in person?
He was like that since he was a kid. Totally unpretentious.
Love how the Majesty changes color according to the lighting.

Im still in highschool and when I already have a job one of my achievements is to have 1 boogie amp👍🏻

john P. you are the reason why i learned to play a guitar. thank you for being an inspiration to us! DT forever.
Thanks Mesa/Boogie for this. .Been a long time user and supporter for over 20 years. .
Love how John uses his gear. .Awesome
INCREDIBLE.
Incredible as usual...I'll love forever the union between John Petrucci and MESA/Boogie.
Great!

I love John, he's just awesome.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I have only seen DT one time and John's rig is epic live . Thanks again.
Damn...that's a masterpiece of a guitar.
The white and gold guitar looks amazing.
Awesome. Watching this with earphones in I'm really getting the stereo effect.

I love john patrucci's sound and guitar phrasing.
Man this guy has so much of stuff.
It's no point even watching anymore.
It just keeps going on and on.
And he can pls like crazy.
Man John's tone sounds HUGE!!!!!......EPIC
His signature flow picks are amazing, they really flow over the strings
This is how a rig video should be.
Sounds so epic when he turns on the Boogie pedal haha
The symmetry of this rig is the best thing I have ever seen. Tonally and aesthetically pleasing.
Dude you're just SICK AS HELL!!!!!! Thanks for all the GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!!
All the equipments of JP is awesome..
Jonh: "Sounds good to me". Holy shit, good isn't even enough to describe the marvel of these sounds!!! This is crazy good!
Thanks, Kevin! :D
Triaxis this is FOREVER in my heart and fingers!
Mesa Boogie!Best guitar gears in human history!
I would absolutely love to have the gear in this vid. That clean sound with the volume pedal at the start makes me feel nostalgic. Wonderful
At last! A Triaxis demo. Thank you MESA/Boogie

his playing is so clean
love that bridge riff from lifting shadows
He used this amp combo to record Images and Words! Just missing the guitars.
I'm fairly sure he used the Mesa MkIIC+ rather than the triaxis
He used a Quad preamp and 295 power amp for I&W.
love the Tri axis
15,000$ bedroom set-up. I could only imagine having this in my room.
