Simon Cheng on Hong Kong protests, China arrest and the "fight for democracy" - BBC HARDtalk
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 чер 2020
- One year ago, massive street protests began in Hong Kong. Beijing was rattled by the strength of the pro-democracy movement. HARDtalk’s Stephen Sackur speaks to Simon Cheng, an employee of the British consulate in Hong Kong who was arrested last year in mainland China and, he says, interrogated and physically abused. A year on, Mr Cheng is seeking asylum in the UK and China is about to impose a new national security law in Hong Kong. Will anything stop Beijing imposing its will on Hong Kong?
The interviewer pointed out a very valid point. Why is an administrator of "business missions" from UK to China asked to collect information on protests?
He is a spy, by definition.
A global loser
Michael Zhuang agreed, good point
So this guy is
1)Spying for another country.
2)Openly advocating sanctions against own country.
3)Begging for foreign governments to be more hostile to own country.
In what universe is this not TREASON?
In a western world of fake standards and double cross
@@happygolucky922 the western world of hypocrisy and double standards
That basically describes most of the HK protestors
In the amazing Hong Kong universe.
“I collected information for British” "but I'm not a spy"
It seems that once anything related to his so-called 'democracy' even like prostitute or spy, it became a sacrificing and dedication....
He went to a club which provides special massage services in order to collecting information. What a genius!
I am a lier but I don't know how to lie properly!!!
He just fights for his country nothing
wrong with that.
@@davidmahdi2136 what country is that!!
If he is British he has been sold down the swannee
But as he is seeking refuge in UK he has no country except China which makes him a " traitor," ??
This is really an awkward talk. This guy has no IQ to be a legit spy, his master didnt do a good job either clearly...
Simon: British ask me to spy on the demonstration
Also Simon: I am not a spy LOL
No government can tolerate espionage at all. Not even US or British.
Simon Cheng: "I was not allowed to talk with other prisoners. I don't know their names. I can't see their faces. But I know they are people from Hong Kong. And I know there are lots of them. "
I can't see their faces
I was not allowed to talk to other prisoners!!
I know that they are people from Hong Kong because there
Was tattooed on their foreheads "made in Hong Kong"
Why did they release you Simon?
Because after 15 days in the brothel I was EXHAUSTED!!!
Haha
XD
Hahaha, I can’t see their face but I know them from hk, huh?
@@Isweir
Fellow patrons from the brothel arrested at the same time that's why!!!
He could have stay silent. After all he put his family and his fiancées family through hell. But no, the limelight is too addictive. Now he thinks he’s James Bond, but he forgets 007 never needed to pay for female attention.
Lol nice analogy
He actually paid three times, for in total 20mins service
Maybe 000000007 does need to pay for women attention. Oops massage, sorry Mr SPY
James Bond never pay for sex tho....lmfao
I sincerely hope UK can accept him😂
And UK did😂😂😂
lmao, even videos are presented showing he visited illegal brothel, which led the arrest, yet he is still denying it.
Apparently he spits not swallow... after all it is a hard fact to swallow!
Thank you, Britain, for taking Simon in. All Chinese are grateful.
4:39 you report back to your “masters” in London... haha
This is so strange. I believe the spy word should be "handler"?
Yep that was a strange choice of words.
I was always thinking one question: Don't they have the incentive to exaggerate the facts so that they got better chance to get benefits from the UK? Not judging the real facts but trying to understand how much can we trust these guys.
This Simon cheng completely miss interviewer’s cue. From the last 10 mins or so, the interviewer is hinting him to speak up for British and US authorities to take tougher action on PRC. But all he can say is how good his British master is.
"You are a spy, Mr. Cheng"
If UK has not better assets than this guy, its time to got out of there...
I think even the host feel the embarrassment of speaking with this girl
And you hired this guy for the consulate? that's a new low even for the British.
Good on CV
I'm a Hker and I too think that he could have done better and be more well prepared for a program like Hardtalk. His points weren't especially well expressed during the first 10 minutes of the interview. But it gets better if you keep watching.
Ironically, UK is not a democracy country, and not even colonial Hong Kong.
When ever a monarchy is deemed democracy even a constitutional one!!
Standards!
Standards!
Standards!
What standards???
British government must be pissed off by this dude, he is a wasteman loool.
he said, he work for British government as spy
You can easily find his video footage of visiting “massage” places on the Chinese media. Standard15 days jail time for him like everyone else who get catch 🤣
I can see at the end of the interview, even the host can't hide his abomination in his eyes...He must be asking himself: is UK ready to give a hug to thousands of those fawning dogs who bark and bite their mother without any hesitation?
This guy is clearly not a spy that's why the Chinese let him go. He's trying to make but it sound like he's a spy because the truth is he's nothing, he's just a low level consulate employee that visited an illegal brothel and got caught instead!
For democracy, this young man wants Western countries to attack or even destroy his city, or even his motherland. But obviously he forgot how Hong Kong was occupied and ruled by Britain. And it is clear that the superior British did not give Hong Kong residents any democracy during their reign. To be honest, it is difficult for me to understand how he formed this unique, narrow worldview. If such people go to the UK, I think it may not be a bad thing for HK.
This generation of young people in Hong Kong, the Chinese government may have to give up..., but don’t worry, they won’t be worth the government’s resources to arrest them as long as they use violence on the streets.
this Mr. Chen was arrested on the basis of visiting brothel house which is illegal there.
No, he is just doing his espionage in a brothel, to spy on China !!!
It was beautiful sight in HK last year.
It is a beautiful sight in cities across USA now.
Do you believe in karma?
yup, the HKers deserved the national security bill coming-up!
Yes,I believe in karma
At the end of the day, a British passport is all he wants.
He paid a very high price for it. He will forever be known as a traitor to his own people.
Its very clear HK needs the National Security Law to deter people betraying their country and the UK govt was involved in the HK protests.
For essence, jump to 5:01 'You did not declare who you were to either your "pro-democracy" colleagues on the frontline or to any police or authorities that might have tried to intervene. You were there ostensibly as a private Hong Kong citizen, but in fact you were there working for the British government.' Mr Sackur has clearly made his point.
He lies like Donald Trump. He said he was tortured but l think it was because he doesn’t like the vigorous massage in Shenzhen that he calls torture. Haha.
Massage ?? ..for his young healthy body ? Must be overworking for his foreign masters ! Was he paid 'overtime' ? ! What is UK upto ?! Prolong hkong as their colony ?
Hahaha, 20cents.........yon only have to say: 共产党万岁万岁万万岁!ccp is the best political party in this world! Of course, following the north Corea routine, you all guys will be the best people in this world also!go ahead! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@vv5973 I only agree with first half.
Very disgusting
Traitors. Traitors.Traitors.
Law Siew Kui totally agree
What a fool, he openly admitted to espionage/spying and visiting the massage parlour...
Does any western country not have a national security law ?
@Mikasa Ackermann Yes, a spy working for the UK (proved by his own words) is allowed to be interviewed in this video based on Chinese security law, maybe the law is tooooooo soft.
Guden Sun there is no such a law in Hong Kong.
@Mikasa Ackermann They have those in China, every country do, but not in HK. The reason why HK is considered spy paradise of Asia. (Just like Prague in Europe.)
The Hk basic law did say HK government should have a security law soon or later, Beijing gave the right and responsibility to HK government. However 23 years later the law is still not there so Beijing decided to do it for HK. Well Beijing didnt really care earlier but with the shits took place last year...
Simone Zheng: They are lying, I'm telling the truth. I can't prove that, just trust me... LOL
At least get one part of his name right.
Israel Lai like I care
Sacker are you kidding me interviewing a mumbling guy saying nothing!
Thx France
I'm just wondering... Are the British people ready to live with a thousands of "MR CHENG"? 😂😂😂
Why not talk how British colonized Hong Kong ?
So funny,BBC interview this rubish guy
Wamao, check you spelling before posting. This doesn't reflect well for your master.

British government has no enough job for their own local that's why they get out from Euro...
he sounds like he wawsdoped..... how can you be recovered from torture with 1 week.... how awful is the torture???
Exhausted after 15 days non stop torture in the brothel!!!!
brothel girls for 24x7, I bet no man can walk straight after this kind of "torture ".. ROFL
I am sorry, but with no disrespect...
Simon, your A- or maybe B-cup is much eyecatching than your interviews...e.g., 2:18 ...
What happened in the past year...
In summary,
1) he confessed he was collecting info on the protest at the request of his employer (UK Consulate) - aka spying for UK;
2) he claimed he was tortured by the Chinese officials (but he doesn’t have any evidence);
3) he denied he went to a brothel (but there’s CCTV footages or evidences to confirm);
If he is innocent then why is he no longer working for the British Consulate? Oh right, because he has been exposed as a British spy. Note to UK, next time you need to recruit smarter spies....
He has no right to presume he speaks for HK people.
Idiots like him and Joshua Wong have been brainwashed by the west into believing that history will remember them as great revolutionary leaders and they bought it hook, line and sinker.
I'm tortured and this is the truth only I know. I can't provide evidence but I'm telling the truth. What BS!
He was a brothel goer, say it!
He definitely gonna miss these Shenzhen girls...
If I was Stephen, I would be shocked about the first question "What is your first LOYALTY". It seems that this young man has already lost any basic judgement about Loyalty
Come come another video for the future interview studies on spot the signs.
This hypocrite is a big liar.
He told us he was a spy clearly.
According to his post, he is not the right person sent to collect information of the riot provided he is a spy.
You are a spy ! Mr Cheng ---- By the Interviewer. 5:26
Sorry
Not licensed!
hahah thanks for UK give this "smart" guy a UK passport :D
Stephen Sackur gone soft in this interview. Why not change the program name to "BBC SOFTtalk".
Cause seems like even just a little harder he asked, Our clever british spy Mr. Simon Cheng will "confess" more details on how British is spying and aiding the domestic riots in China, putting Britain in a bad situation. Stephen surelly don't wanna get himself in trouble cause Britain really has a national secruity law and the so called "freedom of speech" wasn't that free all the time.
Will he get British citizenship after the asylum?
Should we fact check with British council in Hongkong ?
What a shame.
Was she good?
No, he was soft and quick
So impressive young man -he is one man army against ruthless ccp

@4:52 "meanwhile, I was instructed by..." how can you insist that you are not a spy? lol
very strange, no matter what the host asks, i can guess what his answer will be... like these Hongkong "protesters" prepared for every interviews the same?
Don't you think it is an interesting moment to interview him? He is seeking asylum in the UK and will get the result in the end of June. With the stupid replies he made in this interview, the UK government has a very reasonable reason to reject his application.
30 minutes of fame and on national television!!!!
Wow, this guy is the true 007
“ the honourable schoolboy”
Define "torture". You know, Z generation cannot be touched even slightly, literally.
Simon: I was there collecting information for the UK GOV, but I got lost and ended up in a massage parlour...
It all make sense, he wants to stay in UK, where prostitution is legal, so he won't be locked up for that.
This idiot basically admitted guilt on national TV what Shenzhen police tried to prove -- British interference and spying in HK.
It is illegal to pay for sex in the U.K.
There are 3 comments only in the previous interview, but 686 comments in this interview, with the majority are Chinese or pro-China comments. CCP propaganda has lots of fundings.
Exactly. This’s so creepy..
How did he get his diploma? That's the only question I have in mind.
fight for “democracy”
no democracy or bipartisanship.
Traitor
Simon CHENG, please talk about why did you get arrested for just 15 days, not 1 day or 10 years?
what did you do in shenzhen for 3 times?
15 days in jail in any parts of China is mainly due to visiting Brothel which is illegal in China. This happened to one of my ex-colleagues when I was working there. The other crime could be drunk-driving.
Did you pay extra for the torture for your happy ending?
Man you sold ur British supervisor 😂
废话那么多就是为了换个签证...
He claims the video of him at the massage parlor proved nothing. Yet he claims he was tortured but have no physical evidence that his body was harmed... no bruises,no broken bones, right!I believe him 200% based on his heavy breathing and very tight shirt he wore during this interview...
tortured by prostitues in the brothel, haha
