Carrying a Swiss Army knife since 1974, I have never had issues carrying it. But I made a sheath for my first knife, and I have never had issues. My first was the Champion model.
Rather than opening up your jump ring, I suggest running the loop through the jump ring, then over the knife…it will attach to the knife the same way you attach it to your belt loop., so you can remove it more easily. Thank you for the video!
Yeah, thats how I do it. That way if I need to use the big screwdriver for anything major I can detach the lanyard, rather than having it wind around the knife as I work.
I like small suspension clips to carry SAKS better because they carry like nothing is in your pocket and easier to grab out than lanyards in general but you can attach both to the keyring loop and many do.
Been doing this since 98, and have yet to lose a knife since I started. I use a slightly longer lanyard, not enough to put the knife at the bottom of my pocket, but enough that when I'm fishing and I want to switch hooks, I dont need to detach the lanyard to cut my line. A good precaution if you are wading in muddy or fast flowing water.
Great video. I prefer a suspension clip for lightweight SAKS. However, I like your method for heavy models, such as the Swiss Champ. I find that suspending a heavy SAK from a stiff belt with a lanyard makes it feel much lighter. One difference is that I use a quick-detach clip at the end of the lanyard so that I can easily detach the SAK during use.
My right front pocket has been my Swiss Champ EDC solution since I bought it new 38 years ago. I don't understand all the complaining about pocket carrying especially when the knife is half or less than half the size and weight a Swiss Champ.
The Compact, the Tinker, and Spartan are only 2 layers and not uncomfortable in the pocket. They also fit in the right small jeans pocket very nicely. 3 layers fir in that small pocket nicely as well.
I agree I care my cyber tool m in my small pocket but I put two of the nitize mini clips and clip on end to my pants belt loop and one on the ring on the sak in case it slips out 😊
@@defjodor1 Way more comfortable suspended in a vertical position than lying horizontal at the bottom of your pocket though. I've been carrying either a Farmer or a Hiker for decades, without the lanyard I inevitably wear a little bald spot in my leg hair where the knife rides in my pocket.
I do something similar. My paracord loop runs around my belt, then down to a small carabiner, which carries my SAK. Easy to unclip, saves wear on my pocket.
I've been using a lanyard like this for years but also use a one inch mini carabiner on the key-ring so the knife can be detached quickly. As you have shown, keeping the lanyard short so the weight is on the belt loop and not the pocket, is key.
I’ve come full circle back to just dropping it in my pocket. Everything else is hassle, everything else slows you down or gets in your way. Loose in your pocket is just so much more satisfying and convenient, for me. I used to fear I would lose them but for most pockets in most garments they won’t slip out unless you’re bungee jumping. I ain’t bungee jumping.
“Every tool that you want, none that you don’t! You have the…. Parcel hook… uhm…. Very good for… grabbing small items(?)…” lol, at least you styled it out well!
Serious question man... WHENEVER you take scales off a Vix, there's like 100% guarantee that there will be at least small, tiny bits and pieces broken off when they're taken down. So if you try to re-install them, you will 100% have some gaps, etc. How did you manage to move the green ones from one knife into your Compact without encountering this problem?
@@vpenywise tbh I guess I got lucky lol. I used a small plastic pry tool to get beneath the scale. You can always use super glue to keep the scales attached if they don’t stay on. I had to do that with my black micarta scales for my compact
Just put the paracord thru the key ring first, then tie it! I also find that pocket clips just plain suck! I carry a huntsman and it's perfect for me. ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam
I slip the loop through the split ring and the cord. Its easier to detach if your doing something where the cord can get in the way. Daily carry is just slip in pocket, but i just tuck the loop behind the belt and let the knot hang over. I have never lost one tied this way, but if i was on the move or in the woods i would slip it thru the belt as you described.
Sounds like what I've done for 30 years with all my SAKs. A basic wrist lanyard, knotwork as plain or fancy as you like; I used to just tie a simple figure-8 knot, now I tie it into a bosun's lanyard knot. Lets it hang vertically, instead of the lump at the bottom with your loose change and keys.
Have basically the same set for my tinker except I run my belt through the paracord because I hate hanging things off my belt loops and I use a small S carabiner on the split ring to pop the sak on and off on the fly
That's a really good idea with the paracord. I use a carabiner clip to clip it onto my belt loop, but I think I like your idea better. Anyways, cool video.
I like to take a small s-biner and attach one side to the keyring and the other side acts as the pocket clip. You can get these for real cheap and they perform pretty well. Plus it's easy to remove if you want.
A quick question about the start of the video; why did you need scissors when you had the SAK with you? I'm guessing the reason why you chose the Compact was because it has scissors on it plus it has a knife but you went and got scissors to do the project which you say aren't sharp.
Exactly what i do but add a nite ize minibiner to remove knife quickly. Adjust length of cord so knife doesnt touch pocket bottom. Cant even feel its there.
In reality, this concept is funny as it is no brainer but this is more safer and less stressful. I use a raptor, edc multitool knife and keychained mini munkees, an SD classic and litecore tube on my right waist. The risk in having clip is I always accidentally lost some tools at work especially on really critical emergency cases. Raptor scissors is pocketable enough when folded and the lite core tube are perfect on the job so can not replace them. I recently was using a cheap black multitool from amazon with quick knife deployment but later find it was too heavy to be in my pocket for 12 hours everyday. I need a very quick access knife in opening tightly sealed pre-packs everyday if not every case working in busiest country for ambulance. I have a mini SKA Classic SD attached as well as back knife, scissors and pen when I loss any which I always do. I can utilize this set up while waiting for a T2 or T4 leatherman for my final set up as I want 3 compact edc multitools maximum to use everyday duty carry.
Great idea! I paid $13 for the beautifully made 4.1858 Victorinox multiclip (they also make the 4.1859 with longer chain) that locks down over your belt and dangles the knife into the front of your pocket. But this is lower tech and works just as well. Like you I carry a larger Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT, or other EDC tip up in the back of my pocket. With the multiclip you attach/detach the clip connection to a short knife lanyard or directly to the lanyard ring. On mine with the clip on a short lanyard I find the knife carries vertically just above the bottom of the pocket. I carry a Compact as well, but always in my 5th jeans pocket with a short Victorinox lanyard, and only use the belt dangler clip for a thicker Huntsman or Explorer. Love those scales by the way! I have red, black, and yellow, and blue, red and silver translucent, but have never seen the green. Not sure how to change the scales, but will give it a try. Thanks again.
I have a lanyard on my Huntsman for easy retrieval from my pocket, but otherwise it’s mostly for the look and novelty of it. The Huntsman is my first SAK so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it’s 4 layers and I don’t find it uncomfortable at all in my pocket. I keep it in the watch pocket of my jeans and I can hardly feel it.
hi my friend.put the string thr ok ugh the keyring loop before you the it.if you hold the ends of string the hanging knife will give you the centre and sometimes you can catch a bit of the cord caught.thanks my friend.maddog
To each there own. That being said, I have happily right front pocket carried my Swiss Champ since I bought it new in 1985. It has spent nearly every day next to many trifold wallets as they have come and gone. I guess I'm a dinosaur but I don't understand what's so uncomfortable about pocket carrying an SAK, especially relatively little ones like Spartans, Tinkers and Huntsman.
Great idea, thanks. The translucent green scales are my favorite too. I was wondering how you got them off your knife, to put them on your other knife? The videos I've seen showed the scales become damaged when you remove them and it leaves the plastic around the rivets. I would like to sacrifice one of my other green SAK's but I don't want to ruin the scales to put on my other knife and have scales that won't stay on.
put the knife into 60 to max. 70°C warm water and the scales go off easier by using a small blade or a small screwdriver sticking into the slots of the toothpick or tweezers ... nearly no material will scratch out of the rivet holes 👍
Great video. I like your idea for carying a SAK. Keep it up! BTW, next time try using the scissors on your Victorinox Compact for cutting the paracord... eheeem! ;P Cheers!
You lost my respect when you brought out the kitchen scissors to make a paranoid lanyard for a pocket knife. The added loss in respect came from the fact that it was a pocket knife with 2 blades and its own pair of scissors 🤡
The Swiss clip isn’t to bad as long as it’s on the tinker. I had it on the hunter but made it to hard to get to the hook. So with that being said I would recommend one but definitely for the thinner styles. Great idea here and am now going to make one for my hunter.
There is no Best and Easiest Way To Carry Your Swiss Army Knife, simply what suits you best as an individual and what is appropriate for the model & size SAK you carry. I carry my smaller 58mm SAK's with a small Victorinox nylon lanyard with or without a pocket slip in my pockets, I carry many of my 84/85mm Victorinox & Wenger SAK's in the ticket / coin pocket of my jeans with a small Victorinox nylon lanyard without a pocket slip, I carry many of my 91mm SAK's using a SwissQlip if the model is compatible with the SwissQlip or if not I carry them with a paracord lanyard or a NiteFox flashlite with a carabiner & small chain as a substitute for a lanyard in a pocket slip, ditto for my 93mm & 111mm SAK's - either a paracord lanyard or a NiteFox flashlite with a carabiner & small chain as a substitute for a lanyard in a pocket slip.
I would love swiss army knives, but no pocket clip = no carry. I don’t know why they haven’t done the bare minimum to make it easy to carry in all pants and all situations. Very, very disappointing.
I have a better option. The most effective and efficient. I utilized quick release loop. The best thing is it’s slick and looks way better than this and you can quickly release it when you need it for something. Now I used it on all my victorinox. I have 30 installed in various lengths.
"None that you don't" .....except the stupid corkscrew that 80% of people seem to not use/want. And yea yea I know you can put the teeny tiny screw driver in there. You know how many things you can use for a makeshift small screwdriver? Lots. However, when you need the bite of a proper (full size) Phillips head there isn't much else that can suffice. Idk just seems silly to me that the majority of people who have corkscrew models either use it to carry a little tiny screwdriver or don't use it at all and yet Victorinox continues to include it onto most full size models. Tinker small all the way. 👍💯
Similar to my setup but i insert a caribiner to hook to my belt loop. It's in my hand in 2 seconds. . I don't care if the Dude's don't like the look. They should be looking at the girls instead of my belt.
