There’s other delivery methods here with six years of commercial field use that don’t require vapouring. Oxalic acid is distributed by contact and the strips stay in for weeks working over several brood cycles. One thing I’ve learned here is Varroa doesn’t have to be a problem with diligent beekeeping. Sloppy beekeepers will suffer high losses, but I’ve spoken to quite a few thoughtful operators here that have no losses.

No, we have to stay away from synthetic chemicals. Varroa gets resistant to them fast. Oxalic and formic acids so far seem resistance free. There’s tolerances for each and safety concerns too. The right products and education with diligent testing and application is the key. I’d rather not have to do it at all, but the way things are going, I think it will be our new reality.
