Hi Mike, Enjoying your beekeeping videos, we are making Queen castles here in Airport West, Victoria, preparing for the queen grafting later in the year. Looking forward to your overseas holiday videos, regards Anton
Thanks Anton. Not sure if I’ll get to post while I’m there. Hopefully, yes. Otherwise, I’ll be busy posting in August. Enjoy the queen rearing.
See if ya can get some close ups of the dark queens and the tiger striped queens. Cheers have a safe trip.
I’m definitely milking every bee opportunity on this one. Very exciting.
Well I am back 2026 the mites should be the way of the dodos let's hope.
According to the AHBIC presentation last night, they’re still pretty confident. It will be good to get back to normal, though I don’t think it will ever be the same.
Did ya miss me lol.😂 cheers bee God.
Yes.
@@AussieMikesBees try not to spend to much money on trip better to spend it on bees .
I am, I am. It’s bee research.
@@AussieMikesBees it is a obsession we all have it.
Good explanation regarding varroa, so much misinformation out there.
Thanks, Grant. Yes, the general public are often fed alarmist propaganda from the Ill informed. That’s how the law suit is getting traction - emotional response to misinformation.
They need to stop all hive movements in NSW. All professional pollinators should be forced not to enter or leave NSW. All movement should be done via WA. Take the long way around.
While it’s true that the initial spread was from commercial movements, those were before the discovery. It was good record keeping that allowed the response team to find them so fast. There is extensive surveillance going on throughout the state, particularly around pollination events. I don’t think closing down the very industry that is funding the response.would be helpful. Initially, the borders were closed and all movements banned until they determined the level of spread. It was the selfish few that thought they could cheat and save their hives that caused so many more to lose theirs. Those are the real threat to all of us.
@@AussieMikesBees The recreational bee keepers are been blamed by commercial keepers. They need to realize recreational beekeepers don't move their hives.
Yes, normally we don't move our hives. Unfortunately, there's an element of Feral Beekeepers that have moved their hives to avoid the Varroa Response. They're both commercial and recreational unregistered beekeepers.
In the end, it's a numbers game. There are far more recreational beekeepers than commercial. I've talked with hundreds of beekeepers in the Red Zone and many told stories of hives that disappeared overnight in the early stages of the response. I know commercial guys that had hives in the purple zone who eventually chose to destroy those bees because managing them was too difficult with the movement restrictions. A dishonest operator would have moved them and risked the $1M fine. I just hope the bad operators are stopped before they further extend the red zone, which ever side of beekeeping they belong.
Enjoy the kill I did.
Yes! Death to the beetles!
