      I've felt that way in my early years when I drank that booze to excess.

    RIP Bobby Osborne. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was 12. I am 62 now, and still listen to my Dad's favorite pickers.

    First tune I ever heard Stringbean play, and his version is still my favorite

      This is one he co-wrote, probably with Flatt & Scruggs. The credits say Akeman ('Bean), Cirtain and Stacey. The latter 2 are F&S's wives' maiden names -- often used by F&S when they wanted to get around label or publishing restrictions placed on them.

  • @MikeBlitzMag
    @MikeBlitzMag 6 років тому +19

    THIS IS ANSWERED PRAYER!! And I'm not kidding. I'm long time fervent devotee of the late, great David "Stringbean" Akeman's work. He operated on a level of genius which few could match, with virtuoso level acumen as a musician, to boot. And this particular track (the title of which is actually Barnyard Banjo Pickin', not Hot Corn Cold Corn) has long been my all time favorite by him. I've literally listened to that single hundreds of times, and always hoped that a clip of him performing it live would have survived and find its way here online. Well it did, and the fact that it's a duet here with the Osborne Brothers is just about too good to be true. Arguably the genre's finest moment overall. Thanks for finding and posting this! You just made my year.

      MikeBlitzMag I love your post Mike. I'm a true fan of string also. I was a teenager when he and Estelle were murdered. Broke my heart. But they won't be forgotten as long as we remember them.

    • @MikeBlitzMag
      @MikeBlitzMag 6 років тому +2

      Absolutely, Donna. He won't be forgotten on my watch, either. I also keep hoping that somewhere, whether it's in the Starday vaults (his label) or some other place, that there exists somewhere some unreleased material, and that it will eventually appear in some configuration. Hope springs eternal! Thanks for sharing.

      I started the banjo in the early 1960s, and String's two-finger-thumb-lead-Kentucky-style is something I worked hard to master, but I'd rather hear him than me. He lived his music.

    • @donnawheeler1716
      @donnawheeler1716 6 років тому +3

      MikeBlitzMag I'm also a true blue stringbean fan. I can't enjoy my day without listening to some stringbean. I was a teen when string and Estelle were murdered. I remember it. So tragic. But I tell you true, they won't be forgotten as long as we remember. Keep the memory alive.

    • @MikeBlitzMag
      @MikeBlitzMag 5 років тому +2

      @@donnawheeler1716 Absolutely, Donna. He was omnipresent on television throughout much of the 1960s, and pretty much stole the show during the first few seasons of Hee Haw. He's one of the few artists that could keep you mesmerized with his virtuoso level playing. It's almost like he was otherworldly, and all you knew was that you wanted to be a part of it, even as an observer. Simply the best.

    Where did that Vega 9 Banjo go after his and Estella's Murder ? That should be somewhere kept preserved for future gens to understand where this music came from.
