I remember hearing this beautiful song, yet very tear jerking to me...deep deep meaning/lyrics on the radio...esp during my teenage years. Then to discover Ry Cooder, thx to UA-cam, instant crush, butt Ry is also crazy badd multi talented...his voice...my song...lump in my throat right away...tears. Thank you for this. God bless all, from me in Arizona.🏜️👵🌹
Covid was lifted last June, and McCabes sponsored an outdoor concert . Joachim, Juliette, and spy were chomping at the bit, and man, they were fantastic!
I've been to concerts of amazing artists and bands (Springsteen, Deep Purple, Bonamassa, Clapton/Winwood, Supertramp, B.B. King etc.), but this one is my favorite! Great concert!
No doubt about Ry's genius, however Joe South wrote this song and Billy Joe was the first to record it. Many others, including Kenny Loggins, have covered it. I first heard it in the late 1950's at the Bamboo Ranch in Garden City, where Billy Joe and Joe South had a running gig in Buddy Livingston's band. They also had a 15-minute TV show sponsored by a local car dealer. @@@nepiahemopo1702
@@mr.vinegaroon3132 fantastic. Yes, Ry composed a cover of this song in 1980 and features in his Borderline Album. Indeed, he has covered numerous compositions throughout his illustrious career and continues to do so. Cheers.
the song is called 'Down in the Boondocks' . And was originally written by Joe South and was first released by Billy Joe Royal in 1965. Ry Cooder released it on the album Borderline

It was wonderful, big thanks for your 2 vids!!!!
it was great, still powerful and spiritual, but I prefer smaller standing halls. However, Ry is forever! Thats why we came all the way from Croatia

Great cover of Billy Joe's wonderful sound. (I used to watch Billy Joe doing this at the Bamboo Ranch on Hwy. 80 eons ago.)
It's the melody not the words.
Not sure what you mean. Its the same tune. Ry is covering the version introduced by Billy Joe. @@MichaelGreen-qy5ns
The tyranny of social, political inequalities. Love lost....... Grief. Entwined in a sumptuous musical melody, typifies Cooder's brilliance.
