Its just girl* for now as in 1. It has been a rollercoaster honestly. They were my personal ROTY but with all the chaos I put them on the side. All I need to support a group is good music but since they went on hiatus I couldn't. Now that it's over, sad to see the other 3 go but at least my bias Keena stayed. They may not have a certain identity and sound, but theyve been toning down production that I think they've started managing to find a solid ground.... lets hope they find it before they disband-

So real on dreamcatcher 😭 The fanbase itself is really stable and loyal and they're not nugus, but I don't understand how their general popularity has stayed pretty much the same for YEARS, even declining after boca. Like how? Their songs are amazing, they have the looks AND talent, even their personalities are perfect for entertainment yet they're failing to attract the "general population" or most kpop fans. Where's the problem? 😭
I am hijacking this 8 day old comment sry. In my opinon, I think for most groups there will be that period early on in their careers where the potential for success and growth is at its highest. The debut year(s) are the most important for a group to form its initial fanbase and garner popularity among the general public. A 5-6 year old group will never have the same amount of appeal as a freshly debuted one. I think that's one of the more prominent reasons why Dreamcatcher's popularity seems to have stagnated, however I don't truly believe that is such a bad thing. Dreamcatcher do not need to be topping charts to be successful; their continuous album releases are enough proof that they are a financially profitable group with LONGEVITY. There are plenty of acts/musicians out there, regardless of genre, that have a healthy fanbase to sustain their careers. They are not very culturally/musically relevant to most people but they're still able to go on tour and make it because of the fans.
In Dreamcatcher's case, I feel most K-pop listeners have *heard* of them but don't stan or care too much because their concept is relatively niche. Most are going to hear rock concept and go "yea that's cute, but not for me" and write them off.
As for why the GP don't care: K-pop is trend-based, and currently Dreamcatcher's concept seems to be the exact opposite of what the Korean general public care to listen to. What's topping the charts right now? Mostly teen-fresh or girl crush. Last year it was pop punk (barf), and the year before it was retro. There may come a time where a sort of k-rock genre becomes mainstream, but Dreamcatcher probably won't be the catalyst for that unfortunately. I think it would've already happened by now if that were the case.

I'm sorry but i'll have to argue to the wall with twice, The Feels (2021) definitely opened their doors to a more international market, cry for me (2021) and I can't stop me (2020) were probably one of their best title tracks and attracted to much people from different fandoms, i can recognize scientist was a miss and talk that talk was kind of sloppy but we can't forget about feel special and other bangers released in 2020-2021. I would say twice peaked in 2022 and in general all jyp groups and the future is not really prominent for them.
feel special was 2019. popularity wise, general public love wise, they have not been greeted with that much admiration since. their music has gotten better but i was discussing popularity with them

personally I don’t think the boyz have peaked, i mean they were definitely most popular during the stealer+ rtk/kingdom era but they do have a pretty decent amount of fans. for their new mv ‘watch it’ they have over 40m views in 4 days, which is more than some of their mvs from like, a yr ago. i think after hwall left (not saying they aren’t a good group without him) ,their concept kinda completely changed, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but the darker concept doesn’t really suit them imo. the ‘boy next door’ cute vibe definitely suited them better. but also especially this year theyve had so many osts and singles, and as a fan of the boyz, i just can’t be bothered to listen to them honestly, and i think other fans prolly feel they same way. this is all just my opinion though :)
